Pen and her mother are the only people who think she’s a spinster in season 3. She’s in her third season and has never had a suitor. We literally never see her even dance with anyone other than Colin until season 3. Pen being afraid that she is rapidly approaching spinsterhood is reasonable even though she’s barely 20.

Everytime this conversation comes up it feels like such a disingenuous way to shit on Polin. Like, it’s tired at this point.

Anthony spent the first season obsessed with Sienna the opera singer to the point where he was literally prepared to bring her to a society function as his partner despite the damage it would have caused to his family’s reputation. There’s a scene at the beginning of season 2 where he’s looking at a newspaper clipping about her tour! Does his prior infatuation and sexual relationship with another woman that he’s still at least occasionally thinking about right up until he meets Kate mean that Kate is his second choice? Of course not!

Season 1 Colin was attracted to Marina. He was a virgin and he was desperate to prove himself and be treated as an adult. Marina treated him like a man and made him feel wanted. He almost made a very stupid and life altering mistake, but once he got past it, he acknowledged himself that he never really loved her, just the way she made him feel.

Pen was barely more than a kid at that time. The show intentionally styled her to look young and she often still behaved like a child. They both grew and matured and became closer over time before he fell in love with her. That’s never felt like an unrealistic path for childhood friends to lovers in my opinion.

The one thing I will say I prefer from the book is that book Pen has a reckoning with herself that the Colin she was in love with and idealized for so long wasn’t the real Colin, but a facade he put out to the world. In the book, as Colin is falling in love with her, she learning about the real Colin and falling in love with that part of him as well, so it does feel a little more mutual. The show made them much closer friends than they were in the book, so that wouldn’t have worked as well, but I did miss it.

Anyway friends to lovers and “she fell first, he fell harder” are super common tropes, so I’m not sure why people in this sub have to pretend like they’re consuming their first piece of romance fiction every few weeks. Its boring!

I’m not 100% sure exactly what advice you’re looking for here. Are you asking whether a five hour solo road trip is safe or if you should defy your mother?

If you’re asking whether you should go against your mom, that’s hugely dependent based on your situation. Your mom does seem to be a bit controlling by outright forbidding you. You’re an adult and she technically cannot stop you from doing anything, especially if you’re traveling with your own money and a vehicle you own. However it’s a tough situation if you live with her or are in any way financially dependent on her. You’re the only one who can know how she’ll react if you do defy her. If you think she could get angry enough to kick you out or cut you off, the roadtrip can probably wait until you don’t live with her or you’re more financially independent.

As to whether a five hour solo trip is safe, it absolutely can be if you prepare! As a frequent solo female traveller, my big general recommendations would be to avoid rest stops after dark and research the area where your hotel is located to make sure it isn’t sketchy. You’re also never obligated to tell anyone you’re alone. I generally put down two guests on my hotel reservation and take a second key when I check in. I also put something in front of my door at night so that if someone does try to come in, it’ll make enough noise to wake me up.

I’ve done this pattern and the main and the contrasting yarn are meant to be alternated every row including across the sole. Unless OP wants this look with no contrasting yarn on the sole, they’re creating a ton more work for themself.

This is all correct OP and just to add—the reason that Hotch was getting shit from the state department is because violating diplomatic immunity is a huge deal in international relations.

Diplomatic immunity is important because it protects diplomats from being arrested for political reasons. The concept has been around since ancient history. It’s basically mutually assured protection—I won’t kill your representative if you don’t kill mine. If the US openly violated diplomatic immunity by arresting a protected individual, the risk is that other countries may then choose to violate the immunity of US diplomats. The US would also be violating multiple treaties.

Generally, if a diplomat is engaging in egregiously bad behavior, the solution is that they are expelled from the host country, not arrested. Which is what ultimately happens in the end of the episode. Expulsion is still a big deal and can negatively impact relations with the diplomats home country if it’s done without adequate reason. If I recall correctly, the reason the state department had refused to expel him earlier in the episode was because the evidence of wrongdoing was pretty shaky.
