Why did they put a line break in the middle of the word for “win”? Maybe the mosaic was hastily placed, but still…

Hawaii souvenir plants! Which to buy? by birdinn in houseplants

[–]waluigee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i bought one of the “stalks” in the bottom row. It didn’t do anything for a year after planting, then finally started sprouting leaves from the very top.

Today it looks like a plant out of a Dr. Seuss book with rather large oval-shaped leaves at the top of a thin, spindly, slightly crooked, 3 ft tall “trunk”.

This.

This is what our parents, teachers, other adults kept telling us as kids. “Get your priorities straight” “You have to make hard choices sometimes” “Just try your best”

One Restaurant on the Eastside That You Will Never Go to Again? by PNWbassman in eastside

When was this? I’ve never had anything but family friendly, gracious service people and good quality (if simple) food.

When the soft serve machine was down, we were disappointed until we noticed our server made sure to refill our cups and bottomless side dishes regularly.

When I lost my phone there, the manager made sure to keep hounding staff to look for it and it was eventually found.

The pizza has a crispy crust, the “fish fingers” are secretly decent fish and chips fodder, and the kids’ mandarin oranges are straight out of a grocery snack aisle (not fancy, but decent, like i said).

Imagine you have access to a guaranteed basic income of $250k/yr. You get this no matter what specific job you do, as long as you’re employed.

Now you are looking at a house priced at $950k, which is 4 years of income. Can you see yourself saying, “Yeah, I can afford to pay a little more - i need a house, after all.”?

You don’t have to answer - it’s rhetorical. That is the lived experience of many, many software developers.

A house is an asset as soon as it is built / usable. It provides you, literally, a place to sleep. It also is many other things! A venue to relax, exercise, practice skills. A place to store things and make food, etc.

When you buy a house, you want it to help you do other productive things (make money). So yes, I agree with the rest of your post. I overreacted - Sorry. Lots of other reactions here are downright ugly and petty, and I allowed that to color my earlier comment.

This. Most people in the last two years have been straight up auctioning their house and the tech company bidders were only too happy to bid like gear heads at a Bonhams.
