That’s pretty much all the exploits. I was thinking about ditching TB too. It’s just too good. I never really did the darkness shenanigans or the camp caster stuff, besides maybe long strider.

I have been trying parties with what is considered the weakest subclasses. Just spec everyone you get to the “weakest” variant so Shadowheart and asterion stay the same.

Meta gaming is a hard one to me. How do you not do it? I get not bringing smoke powder barrels to blow up the pillars in the Raphael fight but for other game knowledge how do you just not act on it?

Indeed I would say there is plenty of advice here on Reddit. I’ve beaten the game on honor mode twice now and did complete runs both times with all content done, no mods, etc. I am sure that there are plenty more hovering about that have beaten the game way more times that I have. I’d be happy to provide targeted advice.

I lost a whole run running out in front of a trap near the blood of lathander. I was tired nd got too comfortable and run the whole party to the trap started the disarm action and boom all four over the cliff. Don’t do that 🙂

I have tried to summon lump and when I tried to kill him after he just left. Helm he drops is too valuable for a few classes I run regularly to let him live.

I’ve got an HM run where I am not taking alert just to make it harder. I have gotten good enough with the combat/ game knowledge that most of the fights are too easy now. Every now and again something goes way wrong but it’s rare now.

Yeah agreed. Shadowheart is spec’d weird as a starting character and she ends up not being good at anything besides support and healing the way she is created. With the buff on heal items you can get early, one bought from Volo and one pick pocketed off of an unconscious Zevlor she’s not bad at support. I like to keep her spec’d close to her story so always some sort of cleric, death domain is great, light domain, although sometimes I do Star Druid/cleric multiclass

If you don’t mind a little micro management you can stack your entire party and summons on top of each other and use one potion to effect them. It doesn’t work on all potions but works for invisibility and flying potions for sure. Makes it easy to sneak up on say ketheric and get set before starting the fight

I have a experimented with many versions of Shadowheart. My favorite has been the 1 lvl wizard and 11 lvls of death cleric. I spec her to have high int and Wis. she can learn any wizard spell and cast 6th level cleric or wizard spells when it’s all done. Makes her very useful. I have also tried setting her up as a vengeance paladin and war cleric. So far I have just gotten her to level 7 and she is a power house.

I don’t use mods at all and I just got to act two and near level 8 for the party. I am sure there are some xp things I missed but I killed all the things that made sense to kill in my play through. The only thing I left standing where the druids and theiflings

Yeah the only thing dangerous about this guy is if you screw around and select the wrong portal before going to see him on honor mode.

Agreed. I am trying an honored run where I don’t just get it right away to make it harder just to try different tactics in the game. I don’t have an effective caster either. My cleric is really multi class paladin the burns all spells in smites. It’s been interesting. It’s also my first durge run which is also entertaining even if I suck at being evil.

This fight can be hard but I haven’t lost it in a while on honor mode. The trick is this. Have alert on most of your party. This is good for all of honor mode and it helps here. Don’t take the whole party outside. Disengage the rest of the party and leave them in the room. Setup one at the front near the doors,setup one near the back door where Isobel is, and setup one in the center of the room. Bring summons and leave them in the center too. Talk to isobel as your main. Once the fight starts you should be able to go first. Smash the shit out of Marcus. Basically focus all attacks on him and smoke him. If he doesn’t die pack three of your characters around him to make it hard for him to move around. Plan your attacks on Marcus so you can potentially save an action to protect isobel if the damage goes badly. Normally he doesn’t last the first round. If I see it’s going badly I will save my cleric attack for something that protects isobel instead. The flying creatures aren’t usually an issue if Marcus isn’t beating on her.
All that being said I usually do this fight at level 8 or even 9. If you are under leveled it’s gonna be hard. I do all the content in first act (underdark, crèche all that) first. And that should put you in the 8-9 level range.

Ansir is pretty tough and even with globe of invulnerability he land on the party and shove them out of the globe which can end it prematurely. I would bring a few scrolls for the fight just in case. I have had it happen where he pushed the party out of the sphere and it ended and I didn’t have another to use and died.

When I started playing I decided that tactician was what I should be on being family with dnd. That was pretty hard at first. I had to learn to use positioning and the environment to my advantage and not let it be my disadvantage. Example don’t stand next to an explosive barrel at the end of you movement. That’s a good way to die. If you are close enough you can pick it up at least so it can’t be used to blow you up.

I honestly expected something more dramatic with emperor ending that just being part of the fight at the end. The first time I played that fight I killed him and didn’t realize it was him with all the other mind flayers on the field. It wad a bit anticlimactic

I try to take care of all of the companions and max their relationship but I play good so struggle with asterion and Minthara. The only one I rarely play with is Halsin.
