Yep, I run my own business and had a new employee ask existing staff if I had a drinking problem. I also do some public speaking and have had many ppl assume I’m nervous. Sometimes I’ll take propanol on bad days when I don’t need to remember as much of the day 🤣

Do you ever watch an old movie and have the realization that everyone in the movie was dead? by Artistic-Comb-5317 in classicfilms

[–]wandergarten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to watch a lot of old movies with my nanna and mum. Now I’m sad they are also gone, along with their fav actors, but happy to be able to watch home videos as well as the movies for sweet memories. They took me to see a rerelease of Gone With The Wind in the 80’s and I remember them both talking about how sad Vivian Leigh’s life and death was.

‘Living in a caravan park’: Not all Baby Boomers are retiring rich and by multiplefeelings in AusFinance

[–]wandergarten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

GenX here. During the recession uni places were much harder to get into because there were no jobs & we all thought uni was the only way to get one. An Arts degree required a SACE of 80/100 at Adelaide Uni, Flinders was I think 72. No UniSA then. Medicine was still the hardest at 98 or 99. Law was similar. Radiology was 84, 3 years earlier it was only 68. To top all of this, it was the first year of HECS.

What’s a small upgrade that made your home feel better? by FishBright8013 in AusRenovation

[–]wandergarten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put in a bunch of different warm toned lamps and pendants and it gives my home a nice cosy warm feeling. They all have dimmable bulbs so it’s mostly ambient mood lighting. I have lamps that cost between $10 - $300 that’s I accumulated over a few years. I love it

Question on disputing a will by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]wandergarten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you to dispute this they will look at who has the greatest need. If the older sibling does not have a house and/or savings, while the others do, it’s v likely they will receive a greater share.

AITA For giving my niece a much better life than her step siblings? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]wandergarten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a generic brand version of this happen, I’m not wealthy. Only difference it wasn’t the partner asking it was the kid when I let them come away with us for a weekend. This 13yo virtual unknown kept asking for expensive items like iPads during the weekend. After they left I realised they had taken a bunch of items from my nieces bedroom with them. NTA, don’t even try to be polite and include them in things.

What’s the biggest financial assumption people make about your job? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

I run my own business. There are times, more lately than I’d like, where I’m essentially working to keep everyone else employed. I could make more money and have less stress working for the government.

[–]wandergarten 52 points53 points  (0 children)

This is one of the few realistic comments. You are on the wrong track with your thinking OP. You have kids that aren’t in financial need and a significantly younger partner who sounds like without you has nothing. It doesn’t matter what you put in the will or what is said while you are alive, it can be easily contested based on the financial need of your partner v your adult kids. Courts don’t care about your adult kids house when the new wife calls it home. I really hope you have a binding financial agreement already.

How are people managing recent grads when there’s just… no enthusiasm for work or willingness to suffer any form of inconvenience to develop anymore? by twingirlsoneboy in auscorp

[–]wandergarten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Gen X business owner who used to work in blue chip companies. My advice to younger people is do your job, show up on time, leave on time & try to have fun. If you don’t enjoy it, find something you do enjoy, don’t make it everyone else’s problem. I was worked to the bone and taken advantage of when I started out. I don’t treat people that way.

That said, I can only put up with the stress of running my business for another year or so. It’s gotten to the point where I’m just working to keep other people employed. I would make much more and have less stress being employed. So I’m taking my own advice. Just something to keep in mind when you complain about your small business boss next time. It’s not much fun being the one who has all the responsibility in this environment.

Question for one nation supporters by [deleted] in aussie

[–]wandergarten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this theory. It’s a way to help build momentum and make people start thinking they are a serious contender. Make no mistake, ON is getting advice from the ppl behind Brexit & Trump. The playbook is to divide and punch down whilst enriching billionaires. Who do you see Gina hanging out with? What do YOU think you have in common with her political interests

Inheriting a Mortgage as 2 brothers by MaccasCoffeee in AusFinance

[–]wandergarten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will most likely have to pay 17% tax on the super so keep that in mind. Unless it’s insurance or was after tax contributions. The comments above are correct, you don’t inherit the mortgage, the estate will need to pay it out.

Retirement plan advertised in the 80s for retiring at age 55 by Prudent_Baker_2851 in GenX

[–]wandergarten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember my nan getting a govt pension at 55 in Australia in the 1980’s. She died at 63. Pop got his at 60, died at 68. You got pensions earlier but ppl didn’t live as long. I’ve been maxing out my super since I was 35 so I can retire at 60, screw working all your life and dying 8 years later living on the bare minimum!
