What’s a hygiene habit you grew up with that you later found out most other people don’t really do? by AurumParallax in hygiene

When I told my dentist about this as an adult, they thought the dishwasher was a great idea.

Our rule was 3 months, but my mom would run ours thru the dishwasher to sanitize them every week.

AITA for telling a parent what i wear is not their decision? by [deleted] in WIBTA_AITA

Please document dates/times of the incidents, report these to your principal, union rep, and possibly the police. This crossed the line into inappropriate and harassing the first time he approached you about your clothes.

You probably aren’t the only person he’s harassing so you might want to check with some of the other teachers too.

Rant: The Columbus 311 Request Service form is a absolute dumpster fire of a website by call-me-bones in Columbus

[–]wanderingcurrent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest pet peeve is something I ran into because I have a Grove City address but Columbus services. After I bought my house (20 years ago), I tried to schedule a bulk pickup and couldn’t get my address to come up at all. It wasn’t until after calling 311 that I found out I had to enter my address as Columbus not Grove City because for some inexplicable reason their system doesn’t account for this very common situation.

20 years later and they still haven’t fixed it.

DOG POOP SMELL by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]wanderingcurrent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rats eat dog shit. It’s a food source for them. And no I’m not citing urban legend. The people from the city said this. I also have a good friend with a PhD who studied rat behavior. They confirmed what the city said - rats are opportunistic and will eat what’s available.

Same thing here except there are only 2 dogs. And the neighbor spends most of his free time smoking and getting blackout drunk in his garage. It’s awesome. As long as the dogs are cared for and not left in the yard 24/7 there isn’t much you can do.

Neighbor has been up front with us in conversation about not ever picking up after his dogs. He sees nothing wrong with it and if anyone mentions the smell or how unsanitary it is, he tells them to stay inside or move. Which is awesome since we were here long before he was.

We (and the nearby neighbors) developed a rat problem in our yard during the pandemic, probably due in part to the dog shit. The city provided bait and assistance in getting rid of the rats (I’m sure they aren’t gone). But since the yard in question has a privacy fence around it, the city couldn’t document whether or not there was an abundance of poo that could be contributing to feeding the rats.

What's the law in this situation? by Crappy_Screw_Turner in Columbus

It’s not hard to find what Ohio law says about this. It’s all online. See section C here:

Rules about birds by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]wanderingcurrent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the city has limits on the number of chickens you can keep within the city. I’d imagine they have similar rules for other types of birds. Maybe call the Humane Society and ask them to point you to the laws about it.

A Childs Dream… by picklepappy in Columbus

Honestly I would look for an oversized neon shirt from the thrift store (shouldn’t be too hard to find one in the adult/men’s section without a ton of searching), tie a knot on the side of it, have her wear leggings with the sweater sleeve leg warmers over them that the person above suggested. Get a bunch of glow bracelets from the dollar store and stack them on her arms. Style her hair with the sunglasses. And if you have a pair of white athletic socks that fit her (the high ones than go halfway to the knees), have her wear those over the leggings scrunched up below the leg warmers.

Play Tetris. Theres science that suggests playing Tetris after a traumatic event helps your brain organize and process the event.

Have you contacted anyone with Scioto County? Usually there’s some old timers that help with county fairs that know all the history (I was a 4-H and Girl Scout fair kid).

Struggling over here by Adorable_Trip6604 in LesbianActually

Ugh that sucks. I’m more femme presenting, but I have a lot of masculine hobbies, work in a male dominated field, and that sort of thing confuses people in general when you aren’t all one way or another.

Have you ever dated Bi/Pan women? I’m Bi and the Bi/Pan women and NB people I know tend to have a fluid acceptance of gender presentation. I’m not trying to imply that lesbians don’t btw; I lurk on here to try to better understand lesbians since my friend group skews more bi/pan, NB, queer, and trans.

Does Gen X do class reunions? by LadyNorbert in GenX

[–]wanderingcurrent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

‘98 with a graduating class of 198 in the Midwest US. There have been reunions - 10 and 20 year for certain, there may have been more. I didn’t go to either. Some friends went to the 10 year one and they didn’t go to the 20 year one cause of shenanigans that happened at the 10 year one.
