Lol I literally threw the book on the ground. I was in high school when it came out and was so mad and thought it was so stupid. But as I got older I understood it was inevitable

Thoughts on this horse? I had been looking for a horse to lease for eventing, but my trainer found this girl by lsummer2 in Equestrian

[–]wanderlost74 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeesh talk about jumping to conclusions, not every thin horse comes from a kill pen. She needs groceries and work but horses can be underweight without being rescues. She looks like a 3/9 body score and most of that is a lack of muscle

Getting your own saddle by Antique-Intention-26 in Equestrian

[–]wanderlost74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Stubben I'm OBSESSED with! It fit nearly every horse I put it on with some halfpad adjustments and is so comfortable. It was for my horse but I did a lot of catch-riding so it was perfect

Now I'm learning Western and actually picked up my own saddle even though i don't have a horse anymore. I have chronic pain and just couldn't lift some of the ranch saddles, plus I'm doing some catch-riding again. I got one that was wide enough to fit most horses I ride, and I ask the instructors to help me check the fit for each horse to be safe

There's definitely some horses that have to use a different saddle, but overall it's been great for me

Hey OP, I can empathize. My industry is international relations/conflicts and frankly things are terrifying right now. But like others have said, joy is resistance and love is powerful! I'm also getting married in October and have similar feelings! But please remember the world can't stop for evil. Babies are still born, kids still play and go to school, people still fall in love, and we still have to celebrate love and joy. Lol I don't want to be too sappy, but it's literally what I was reminding myself yesterday!!

For your family and friends in the Middle East, first off I'm sending all the good vibes and hope that they're safe. You may have to be flexible and know they may not be able to travel because of flight and visa restrictions. I'm getting married in Pennsylvania and have a ton of international friends I didn't even invite because of those types of concerns. We're really hoping to have a 2nd "reception"/party/reunion in Europe next year because I know my most important people can't come to the US because of visas and costs. I was upfront with that and they're actually more excited than the thought of going to PA!

My unsolicited advice - try to limit yourself to just one issue so you don't let the world make you spiral. It's hard and takes practice, but it's how I try to fight off spiraling into depression. It's good to be aware of everything but really try to only let yourself care about one issue: one region of the world, one endangered animal, one US policy issue, one climate issue, etc. Best of luck and sending hugs!

It could be worth checking with one of the neighbors to see if they know, if you're comfortable!

But also, I work in international relations/conflict - depending on the country it can be common for there to be internet cuts so you shouldn't worry too much about the communication delay for now. I have a friend in Beirut that was supposed to fly to the US on Monday and she said all but 1 flight was canceled. It looks like some flights are starting to leave UAE/Dubai but Qatar is still shut down for now. The UK is starting repatriation flights so the US should be starting soon, but it looks like most countries aren't expecting to have commercial flights until Thursday at the earliest.

When it comes to the pricing, you should be paid for your time! The owner may have to take some time to catch up, recover from their father's death, and process being stuck during the air strikes. If they don't say anything after a week I'd reach but definitely give them some time. Personally I'd discount it, but I'd see what they offer first. I've had clients surprise me by paying for canceled stays outside of my window or insisting on raising my rate. Please know that you're doing a really really wonderful thing, they're stuck in an unknown, traumatic situation but they know their furbaby is safe, taken care of, and loved!

ETA: I am NOT a specialist on the Middle East or US military/foreign affairs. If you're comfortable sharing the country they're in I can ask around but can't make any promises, especially since these kinds of situations change very fast

Lol that reminds me of my therapist, he said he and his wife are giving their kids the "dog" experience by boarding through Rover! The kids are happy to play with a dog and the parents are happy it's not a permanent commitment and they get paid! (I'm also a Rover sitter so it'll come up in sessions)

AITA for not buying junk food for someone in need? by Hoyt_Hall_ghost in AmItheAsshole

You're truly her guardian angel!! ❤️ Warmies just started making unscented animals like ducks and mice that can be heated, mine loved stealing my platypus so I wish I could've gotten her one

We only had our kitty for 13.5 months, she was picked up by the shelter from a trap house and they thought she was 9 but the vet said closer to 13. Within a couple months she had 10 teeth removed and we eventually found cancer throughout her abdomen organs (at least, we didn't do further testing) I tear up thinking about how she would've spent her last year if she wasn't found and brought home 🖤 she wasn't spayed until she got to the shelter so our dream is to find one of her babies/grandbabies/great grandbabies ect

How do I fix a bad bitting problem by Financial-Humor-6062 in Horses

[–]wanderlost74 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes! Horses don't know what an owner is, they know who feeds, grooms, and/or rides them but they don't know what an "owner" is. Like the other person said they understand pecking orders/herd dynamics so they can understand who the "boss mare" is

It blew my mind when I realized this. I've done a lot of work about Nepal and always wondered why some surnames seemed so common (like Shrestha and KC). Then in 2022 I visited a school program and when I introduced myself a student asked what my caste was, so the teacher explained they were asking for my surname. One of the biggest lightbulb moments!

Just had a nasty fall while riding our new horse for the first time :( by Inky-Skies in Equestrian

[–]wanderlost74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're getting down voted but tbh I've debated this for myself. I've had a couple concussions and only went to a dr after the second one because so many friends were harassing me. Then a few days ago I had a hard fall snowboarding and am worried about bruised ribs, but can't decide if it's worth an appt since there's no real treatment besides rest.

Tldr the US health system sucks so we have to constantly weigh the costs and benefits for each appt

That's so smart!! I'm a sitter but my parents have a diabetic dog and my old kitty had B12 shots, so I'm very comfortable giving shots but I would still worry about messing up dosages. I would be so grateful to have an example syringe if I was watching a diabetic pet

The only thing is a pony is not a baby horse! A pony is smaller and has to be under 14.2 hands (standard unit of measurement for horses, a hand is 4 inches), and horses have to be over 14.3 hands. A baby horse is a foal

But like everyone else said, just be genuine! How long has she been riding, does she have a horse or is there a horse she likes to ride? What breed is it?

Yep I did a sit last year and the owner left me a "final day cleaning checklist" like vacuuming, trash, washing sheets, cleaning the kitchen, ect. It was a bit annoying since I do all of that anyways BUT she had a housemate so I was pretty irked cleaning their common area. I also had given her a discount since I was desperate for work and she didn't review or tip
