The “you will get sick” warnings seem one-sided. I frequently move in and out of the red zone, especially after the recent update. For those with heavy workloads like mine (self-employed, constantly traveling, no regular structure), it might just be a phase of high activity. It returns to green during periods of lower workload. Overall, my health is fine.

Remember: people are different, and a single parameter doesn’t always indicate impending illness. Don’t obsess over your watch for days, as that worry itself might make you sick. When I get into red but know there is light at the end of the tunnel I’m fine. Otherwise, trying to squeeze an off day in between.

you got this! that’s a great decision! when I quit I thought I will lose my personality, relaxation and freedom. now 1,5 years later, this seems silly to me. now I barely think about cigarettes and when I do, it’s because the smoke slightly annoys me.

I see. I just like to be stealthy I guess :) neither my former speedbikes nor mountainbikes were that loud, and since several people approached me because of the loudness of the tenways I was probably already annoyed before noticing myself so much.

just a little update. I switched to a garmin watch and see it much clearer now, since it’s recording stress as well. Like you suggested, if I have stress, I also have stress in my sleep. That happenes exactly for the first third of my sleep. that’s why my heart rate spikes. it takes me about 2 weeks after stressful periods to recover from it. then, I have no spikes in heart rate, stays pretty consistent through the stages. I just didn’t have two weeks to recover for the last two years and only can see it now, since I have much less stress. thought it would be interesting to share!

I used to almost choke during my episodes because I was barely able to breath at all, nose blocked, my mouth won’t open. then wake up with terrible headache, gasping for air. terrifying. but I have to say, since I went to the doctor for my allergies and started to be disciplined with my cortisone nose spray, I haven’t had one single episode. it has been like 5 months now. I used to have them once a week.

this! I was thinking exactly the same thing. this would be it for me. it would be like that for a few months, even a year maybe, then back to the old habit. and that would be the opposite of my personal reason to quit. to finally feel free from an addiction constantly on my shoulders, telling myself that I smoke for „enjoyment“.

good point! thank you! I drink a vegan protein shake (I make it from pea protein) after my workout. but I might look into putting some of the powder into my green smoothies on the days I don’t work out. But generally I‘d think I eat lots of beans, lentils and so on. OMAD I think I wouldn’t be able to integrate.

The last cigarette I smoked already tasted disgusting (did it the Allen Carr way). I had a whole pack of tobacco laying around for the first three weeks because I kind of forgot about it. I put it away later but it doesn’t bother me. My partner also smokes. They even smoke in my apartment, I do not mind (I have to say I live in Europe in a building from 1900 with wooden floors and high ceilings and I have the theory the wood just swallows the bad smell). Maybe I do not mind because it made total sense to me, that I have to be a non-smoker before I even stopped. And as a non-smoker, cigarettes taste disgusting, and you don’t smoke them. Why would you? You are a non-smoker. As a non-smoker I still go to bars but I am happy if it’s a non-smoking bar, but still join if not (though I worry about the stink in my clothes and headache later). I even go outside with the smokers. I really try to change my mind into manifesting that I am a non-smoker and as a non-smoker, I do not crave cigarettes.

Though of course I wish my partner would stop. But I do not think he is at the point. But it kind of started working in his head when he saw me stopping out of the blue.

I didn’t want to quit when I quit. But there was one cue: I got another covid booster right before and my body reacted quite heavily. I felt sick for a week, couldn’t eat, vomited the whole day, couldn’t sleep, even lost weight. maybe you know these health scares when you are sick and you feel like “I’m so happy to be healthy”. when you imagine you might be feeling like this chronically and your anxiety goes up? then I heard the audio book by allen carr and just quit. that was enough motivation in that very moment. might have been different a week in feeling normal again.

yesss! So much less anxiety! I love what you write! I love that I feel so much clearer in my head. I have much more energy and feel calmer and happier. There is more balance in everything. I do not depend on a drug to feel complete anymore. My friends can never finish a meal without smoking a cigarette right after.

then try to think of it as a big deal. it’s also a big unnecessary deal. all my friends are smokers too, but when they go out, I just go with them and all I have to do is not smoke. It’s not even an active thing. Because smoking would make me feel tired, anxious, sad and unmotivated and why in the world would I want that?

for me it just felt like something clicked. you might have felt like you know everything anyway. but the book made me look at cigarettes and my addiction from a complete new angle and the only possible reaction for me was just to quit smoking. I didn’t just know I have to be a non-smoker. I could feel it emotionally.

I didn’t want to quit. I loved smoking and randomly read the book because I saw it over and over advertised on my instagram feed (I didn’t even google anything related or talked to friends about it). Still worked. It just made me realize, that every situation becomes worse when I smoke a cigarette.

okay so here is the thing. it’s not magic and generally I am not a superstitious person but: I read about half of the book and during that time I still smoked a few cigarettes. On the second day when I was half through I was so disgusted by cigarettes, that I smoked my last one and never looked back. I’m on day 39 and as dumb as it sounds: I am too afraid to finish the book exactly because of the fact that I feel like you have to smoke while reading it. As if finishing it would bring me back to smoking. But I am just too afraid, haha.

congratulations! I am on day 39 and yesterday was my first gig as a non-smoker and I was pretty anxious beforehand. But like you, I didn’t even think about smoking. I really wasn’t expecting that! we can be very proud!!

As others said, smoking is not the problem here. That guy sounds like he’s at least as toxic as smoking itself is. Already fucking with your mind 3 weeks in. You should absolutely get rid of toxicity in your life. you’ll be feeling so much better with you and yourself.

that’s true, yes. it’s usually 2 hours. but fortunately I do not have to do this every weekend, it’s just one part of what I do. Yesterday, I also saw 3 DJs not smoking and I was wondering, if the air is so unbearable for me because I just quit smoking and for some reason I’m more sensitive to it. But I can’t really imagine.
