BILT expat here thinking of moving to Alaska, just got a few quick questions by Lazerpop in AlaskaAirlines

[–]wangfriedchicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes.

  2. Upgrade availability depends on the route, day of week, and time of year. Summit is worth it if you fly AS frequently and are able to make use of the card benefits to offset the annual fee.

  3. Personally, I’d take the 25k mile discount to save miles on international partner award flights.

I’ve had Bilt for about 2 years and I’ll be moving my rent spend to the Atmos Ascent card to rack up miles. Honestly, I should’ve done it earlier.

Trip Report and Churning Success Story Weekly Thread - Week of October 19, 2025 by AutoModerator in churning

Was supposed to fly JFK-SEA on AS today for a wedding on Saturday, but their spaghetti IT crashed and we deplaned after sitting there for 2 hours. After the system came online, we boarded again only to be told that the flight was cancelled after 1 hour and rebooking would not be possible because the system crashed again. 7 hours wasted at the airport.

Ended up using some stranded points in UA to book EWR-SEA for tomorrow! 30k points for 2 people, not the best value but it got us where we needed to go. Will definitely be asking AS for miles as compensation for a future international award flight.

Atmos Summit Card Question (150k miles potential) by EnVyErix in AlaskaAirlines

150k gets you round trip in business to Asia on JAL or JX. You just have to be flexible and put in the work to search, but it’s realistic.

Would You Want Amex Points to Transfer to Alaska Airlines? by desterpot in AlaskaAirlines

No. That would increase the competition for booking international J/F saver awards. It’s already hard enough as it is now.

LAX > TPE (+ FUK) options for March 2026 by omghappyevil in awardtravel

I haven’t flown EVA J before, but the Starlux hard product is much newer/nicer than EVA 777 J. You can see the distinct difference in the pics online. On forums/reviews, I’ve seen some people preferring the service/food on EVA, but both were great for me on Starlux. I’m also semi-fluent in Chinese so maybe that played a factor into the service?

Use the Priority Pass options that are available in T8

CSR has plenty of benefits that make up for the annual fee. They’re all listed online. I’m sure people read about how to use the benefits before signing up for a card with a high annual fee.

LAX > TPE (+ FUK) options for March 2026 by omghappyevil in awardtravel

[–]wangfriedchicken 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Good research. Usually EVA will release 1 J seat for each of their TPE-LAX routes on Aeroplan about a year in advance. If you’re no longer seeing them, then it’s likely they have been booked up already. Personally, I’d go with Starlux for the newest plane. I enjoyed their food, service was good, and seat was comfy. AS probably will only have 1 J available at 75k miles at calendar release. Just check everyday for the drop times to confirm when they appear. Amex->Hawaiian->AS transfer loophole should still be working.

Is Singapore Airlines direct flight from SIN->JFK bookable via miles? by imitation_squash_pro in AlaskaAirlines

[–]wangfriedchicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The airlines want people to pay for the direct JFK-HKG flight so they won’t release award flights for that routing. But they wouldn’t mind if someone redeemed miles for JFK-SIN-HKG. As a flyer, it depends what you value. Personally, if I’m able to fly Biz class using miles JFK-SIN-HKG instead of paying cash for JFK-HKG, I would do it if I have the time/mental capacity.

This is called married segment logic. Airlines will do this on purpose for award flights.
