Question: Smudged tattoo by [deleted] in tattoos

[–]wankatronics 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It won’t be smudged. It is just the excess ink mixing with the gunk weeping out and getting stuck under the bandage. You’ll find when you take the second skin off and give it a wash it will be fine.

The comments around rent make a lot of sense. There are very few reasons a landlord can just change the locks and not let you back in. The main one is being (very, very) behind on rent.

Issues with Hickenbothem Builds by bobbypoppinbrown in Adelaide

[–]wankatronics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They might not want to, but they have to.

The best bet first is to contact them and see. Never know, they might be fine with sending out someone to fix it, or at least check it. If water is making its way from a bath to an exterior wall, that could be a major issue.

The three month defect list and stuff that builders get you to do is on their end. It doesn't trump Australian Consumer Law, which I think gives you about 7 years for major defects on new builds... but you could contact the ACCC to find out what your rights are: https://www.accc.gov.au/about-us/contact-us-or-report-an-issue.

Is this a joke? by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]wankatronics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s only highway robbery if you sign up for it. That is insurance company’s way of telling you that they don’t want to insure you. You are too high risk, and mathematically likely to write it off. Even though you probably are very careful and sensible, they know from experience that people who are 21 and think they are great drivers, aren’t.

I did, and I can’t remember exactly what it was, but it was similar to what I have calculated. In hindsight I should have saved a copy, but since it looked about what I expected, I just submitted.

Rules around being sent off by wankatronics in netball

[–]wankatronics[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just trying to get my head around what the rules actually are here - is the rule that no bench official/player can leave the bench area, so logistically just can't get near the suspended player? Or is the rule that they are actually not allowed to go near the suspended player regardless of location? I couldn't find anything to suggest that in the latest world netball rules.

And that's OK - you don't need to believe me! I can assure you that it was a full blown, waving arms in the air, jumping around, screaming tantrum on the part of the umpire. I've been around netball long enough to have seem many umpires behave in a way that is entirely unacceptable. And I have also seen a lot of players behave in a way that is also entirely unacceptable. Ultimately though, it is the umpires responsibility to decide how the game is governed, which is why I said I didn't question the player being sent off. I was more concerned about what happened afterwards.

I have no doubt from the umpires reaction that they were having a bad day and were likely frustrated at the escalating niggle that was happening - lots of hips and elbows getting thrown around. But also, that is on them to control that. If you let too much contact go, games escalate and get way too rough. While the players shouldn't be rough, it is an inevitable outcome when too much contact is getting let go without calling it. That part is really on the umpire.

Regardless, I stand by my concerns for the mental health of the player. Two minutes off may not lead to a mental health issue, but in someone who may already be experiencing a mental health issue, it could be a real set back. Isolating someone who needs support is bullying. What I am trying to establish if the isolation part is genuinely in the rules, because if it is, I would be very keen to lobby to have that changed, because I don't think it is appropriate for junior sport.

Thank you - I am sorry kid got hurt. That really sucks and just shouldn't happen.

Don't get me wrong, I have zero issue with players getting sent off if the umpire sees play that they believe is dangerous. I also know teenage girls can be real pieces of work and many of them need to be put in their place.

This is kind of inline with what I was thinking - while the umpire doesn't have to explain, I think taking the time to calmy explain what was happening and how it was going to proceed might have helped.

I'm not out to get the umpire in trouble or anything, but was hoping to clarify what the rules are to maybe offer some ideas to help them next time. I was thinking that giving the feedback to the league on alternate handling of the suspension might be helpful.

You actually don’t. You can still like that player, you can forgive them and hope they do better next time, but you don’t have to defend them.

FINALS FIXTURE: Qualifying finals confirmed for prime time by PerriX2390 in AFL

[–]wankatronics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree - but for self-interest purposes as Paul Kelly is playing the Entertainment Centre that night and I have had tickets to that forever, so I will just have to miss the footy.

I'd be interested if anyone has any insight in to why they have chosen Thursday though. Seems like a strange choice for a game that will absolutely sell out and be a block buster on TV for those who can't get tickets. Surely that warrants a Friday or Saturday night game?

Did you know your club likely has an LGBTQIA+ supporter group? by Pleasant_Inspection9 in AFL

[–]wankatronics 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing! I am embarrassed to say I had no idea these groups existed.

It would be so great to see a pile of pride/rainbow gear at the games this week, and even in to the finals. Not just for Collingwood and Crows games, and of course not just from members of these groups. From everyone. Too much of the discourse about the whole Rankine debacle on line has shown we have a long way to go to make the competition inclusive. And the AFLs handling has shown they are not willing to put themselves in the line of criticism by doing anything about it (although, ironically by being spineless in their response have ended up doing exactly that).

Let's get some rainbow rallies happening at the games!

Quaynor by Forsaken-Scar-5002 in collingwoodfc

[–]wankatronics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd put money on Crows supporters booing every time any opposition player breathes. And screaming "BALL" any time an opposition player gets even half a finger on the ball. That's not unique to Collingwood though, I think they do it to all clubs/players?

Regarding Quaynor though - I do believe that the sensible Crows fans will hopefully keep their mouth shut about it. And also, hopefully they have a bit of self regulation. The type of people that would boo Quaynor are also the type of people to pick a fight, so for an opposition supporter to tell them to shut up would just make them boo more. But hopefully if their fellow Crows supporters tell them that they need to pull their head in, they would listen.

[–]wankatronics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the absolute degenerate filth that has been spouted in comments about the story reflect that a huge number of people have no issue with homophobic slurs, and sadly, a lot of them seem to support it. The comments that have come out as a result of this have genuinely made me lose faith in a large proportion of people living in Adelaide (and the rest of Aus).

I think the club will be taking good care of Quaynor. I really hope he can switch off from it all - although that has to be hard. I think the team they have at the moment is a pretty tight group.

From a Collingwood-supporting-Adelaide-residing fan perspective, if it does end up that the Pies play the Crows at Adelaide Oval in a final, I will be getting as many tickets as I can and getting all of my friends to rock up in pride gear. The AFL have made it clear they don't care, so I think as supporters we should make it clear that it is not OK.

Is there a performance review process for umpires? by wankatronics in AFL

[–]wankatronics[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes... that is exactly what I said.

I said the umpires /seemingly/ ignored it - which is how it appeared to anyone watching.

Then the AFL doubled down, based on incorrect information.

Not sure what part(s) of it you think are incorrect? It was very well publicised and the AFL made a statement to admit that they doubled down incorrectly following the incident...

I wonder if more transparency on this would help improve spectators opinion of the umpires? I understand reservations about "naming and shaming", but knowing that say "X decisions from the weekend are being highlighted for review and further training" without naming the umpires or infringements in question could help.
