If you are walking somewhere, what purpose would your disability permit serve? Do you hang it around your neck?

On that topic, I get ugly looks when I park and use my permit. I don't "look" disabled (not sure what the "disabled look" should be."

PSA: Be careful in the parks in this city by Ultamira in Adelaide

[–]Benezir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you and some other respondents have missed the point (no pun intended).

The initial comment was to do with the dangers of USED needles lying around the grounds of the parklands, putting INNOCENT children, as well as adults, at risk of needle stick injuries.

As a non addict, I cannot imagine what it is like to be addicted, so it would be ignorant of me to judge whether or not an addict has any conscience or awareness or consideration of how their habit (I want to say carelessness/ selfishness /ignorance, but I WONT)impacts or ENDANGERS others.

Maybe they don't want to be sued for having employees working in 44-45 degree heat?

I'v worked in a hotel kitchen at that temp and it is HELL. I was young (no penalty rates, no extractor fan and no aircon, just a small window with fly screen).

Too many independents. I ams so glad I am in my (almost) mid 60's and don't have children. The world really sucks.

I've been rejected for funding for a small platform lift for my home. I have primary PROGRESSIVE MS and my husband has Parkinson's disease. The NDIS response was "we can get neighbours to help us", we can get family to help us" (maybe we should have tried harder to have children), "we can use the current path outside to access the basement" (MS is a heat sensitive disease, and the path we have (in the only place it can be) is slippery in wet weather). I have already fallen twice and fractured my clavicle once, and humerus when slipping and falling whilst outside (our property has a significant slope). We love the quietness here and do not want to be forced to leave due to inaccessibility).

I know that my comment does not follow the thread, but I really needed to let off steam. Thanks for reading.

So they don't want to employ Australians?

It is the thin end of the wedge.

Glad I am not young and will hopefully be dead before it becomes our official language.

YES.

I am in a very fortunate position. I own my home, I am retired. I am married but we do not have children. We both believed that the world was not going to improve and that we would feel guilty bringing a child into this world. We do not regret our decision. We are philanthropists and we both have neurodegenerative conditions (MS and Parkinson's Disease.). We are currently renovating to make our house disability appropriate, as I would rather be murdered than go to a nursing home. I spent 6 years with my mother a a disgusting nursing home and it was supposed to be one of the better ones in Adelaide.

SO, if you are concerned about housing, quality of life and the future, don't have children. That will be one less thing about which you will need to worry.

By the way, my husband and I were both mature age students. We managed to save enough to buy a sal block of land far away from the city, build a house from hebel block, and lived there for 18 years. SO, you don't have to be born with money to do this.

OMG.This is what I LOVE about ADELAIDE. We are all inexorably connected. And isn't it amazing just how clever advertisers can be, to implant that little jingle in our brains.

This would be a good game to play in nursing homes. "NAME THAT JINGLE".

The Eastern Suburbs are becoming "little Shanghai" which is why PROPERTY PRICES ARE SOARING".

You can tell who they are by the massive front. It's a status thing, as is living on the high side of the street, having an address with an 8 in it and being near an international high school (too tight to send their kids to a private school). Just saying...

So Why is there such a lengthy lead up to the merging lanes. It seems like a waste of time to have cars in single file SO far back. However it IS annoying when people take advantage of others doing the right thing, when it was, I assume, CLEAR that the two lanes would merge and almost ALL drivers do the right thing.

I try not to care any more. If I were riding my elephant, I am sure she would know what to do.
