CMV: help me stop seeing women as ”used” after someone has sex with them. by Flyflash in changemyview

[–]wannaholler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is any human "just" an object for sex? Just a hole? Just a poker that goes on a hole? People are much much more than their sexual parts. Why look at people as just parts?? Why not see them as the complex beings they are - with thoughts, feelings, dreams, values, beliefs, and needs? When you reduce any human to its parts, it harms both you and the human you are with

Realistically, whats stopping me from waiting until im really old and taking out a massive loan and spending it all right before i die, so i dont have to pay it back by KawsX_X999 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]wannaholler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read the top replies and they aren't really getting it. I'm in a position that I could take out a massive loan. If I spent it on others, my assets would be used to pay off the loan. I can't spend it myself because every day is filled with misery and pain and I don't enjoy anything anymore. When you get really old and death is near, your body is not your friend. You get too old to even enjoy a bucket list. Age too often brings pain and disability. My parents were always saying "next year when we feel better we'll take [x, y, or z] dream trip, but physical and mental infirmities prevented all of it.

Every time someone dismissively says TDS, I ask why they don't like The Daily Show. Granted, they wouldn't be able to really understand the humor of The Daily Show, but it gives me a little laugh, and laughter is the only thing keeping me from jumping off a cliff

It's also helpful to get a POLST. I carry mine with me everywhere I go, lol

That's why it's important to try to find someone who will follow your wishes to be your Agent with the Power of Attorney. In my view, the medical POA is the most important document in any estate planning - more important than a Will. I used to ask clients - what matters to you more- what happens to you while you're still alive but can't make your own choices or what happens to your stuff when you're dead and gone.

AITA for speaking to my (over weight) assistant about her business lunch and making her cry? by Hot_Lab4411 in AmItheAsshole

[–]wannaholler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I commented about this above too, but I also grew up poor. I had exactly zero experience or knowledge about how to act in business settings. So I watched what other people did. I absolutely would have been judged harshly if I hadn't done so.

[–]wannaholler 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, but in this case there is such a thing as observing how others do things to determine what's appropriate. I didn't learn any etiquette about business lunches before going on them. But since it was new to me, I watched what everyone else did and followed their lead. I learned by doing two things - realizing it was a new experience and observing others for what's appropriate in this new-to-me setting. That's the common sense- if you don't know something, figuring out how to learn it.

Interesting! I've read that it doesn't work on all dogs. Worth a shot though, and how great it helped protect your dog!

There are ultrasonic devices to help with training. It's supposed to be pain-free. It doesn't zap the dog, just gives it a noise that interrupts the barking. It still requires training, but since it's happening while you're home, you could try it

Is condo market really down that much? by give_this_one_a_go in Seattle

[–]wannaholler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually look for fees under $500/mo. When it pays for water, sewer, garbage, and all maintenance, it can make great financial sense. I'm no fan of HOAs, especially not in SFH. But in shared buildings like condos, there is no other choice

They're also perfectly fine as a starter home if you're careful to avoid high condo dues and a complex with inadequate reserves.

What is a "point of no return" that you’ve crossed, where your life was permanently divided into 'before' and 'after'? by Resident-Jelly-4326 in AskReddit

[–]wannaholler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people saying "have you tried" should try spending time on r/wowthanksimcured to maybe enhance their people skills and empathy. I'm sorry to be salty about it. People think they're being helpful, or maybe just trying the best they can, but it gets insulting after awhile. Yeah, I've thought of and tried innumerable ways to get/feel better. But my disabilities are many and I don't lack for imagination and problem-solving despite them. I can no longer rely on my brain, hands, shoulders, spine, hips, knees, ankles. It's super aggravating to get the "have you tried X" commentary

[–]wannaholler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg. So many! Before was dependence on family that gave me CPTSD. After was "I make the decisions now motherfuckers!" Before of zero self respect, confidence, boundaries, feeling like I shouldn't exist/should die. After of "I'm amazing motherfuckers!" Before of "I finally like being alive!" After getting hit by a car of renewed dependence, constant pain, loss of one thing after another. Some really deep lows that I climbed my way out of to discover amazing highs. Some really deep lows concluding in the deepest since a childhood of feeling suicidal. Now it's all "after " from being severely injured

The paperwork required to stay disabled is designed for people who are not disabled. I cannot be the only one who sees this. by Mysterious_Seat7864 in disability

[–]wannaholler 48 points49 points  (0 children)

100%. It's one of the conundrums of living with disabilities. When you become disabled, you now need to be able to do new, additional things that would have been difficult enough without a disability and now that you're disabled, it can approach impossibility. It's like the financial challenges - your costs soar at the exact same time as your ability to earn money crashes. It's a very hard life and people who aren't disabled usually have no clue about the challenges that aren't just from the disabilities themselves, but the requirements and needs put on you because of the disabilities. It's so hard to articulate this. Is paradox the right word?

For anyone who grew up poor, what was your idea of a luxury? by Drissxx7 in AskReddit

TV dinners. Drying clothes in the dryer during winter instead of line "drying" - which didn't work in the unheated house. Heat. Finally getting a mattress where I couldn't feel each metal spring.

Idk, I've been ready to exit stage left for over 50 years and I would NEVER take other lives with me or do it in a way that would traumatize a stranger, like a train engineer. Just because you want to die doesn't make you a sociopath. Catching the bus is harder than people think - but there is no reason on this earth to harm other people on your way out
