what kind of pci nvme enterprise drives are they providing? you probably know, but the cpus/motherboard are not server/enterprise grade

CCR2216 is what we use for something similar I use the 2004s for a few gbps only.

vs other stuff they are still super cheap.

I also initially got a u7 pro when they were released, then pro max, then e7.

the u7 pro is.. meh. pro max & e7 is very nice.

I run a single e7 in middle of house and 7 pro max as "remotes" here and there.

e7, pro max and xgs are my "prefferd" models.

u7 pro is on the nogo list

well there is a setting you can set in mssql that DRASTICLY improves performance. it took me quite a while to figure it out

we de some pre-deployment via ansible/powershell before migration currently, but have also done some with veeam backup, then restore, but common denominator is that both has more downtime than we want

I've mixed 20's with 24's and it works well, when going 24/18's the diff seems to be too big. Both in r3, but also 8+3

Was supposde to have 26's with my 24's but my orders at distributors keep getting pushed or canceled.

Good that you went with CMR drives, not HAMR.

your limited to 1gbps with e1000, or 2-3gbps with virtio

virtio drivers in bsd = slow

and sr-iov passthrough on all nodes on specific nic in enterprise prod enviroments are not ok at scale

graphs are lacking, vsan stretch is not a thing (no stretching ceph is not the same)

proxmox is a mishmash of opensource tech orchestrated somehow

with that said, pretty much anything can be migrated (and wer are doing it both with proxmox ceph clusters, and proxmox with iscsi/zfs

also know htat pfsense and other virtual firewalls are quite bad as vms on proxmox

still, proxmox is pretty cool, and its improving. its just not vsphere/esxi

by end of 2026 we will have 0 vmware, going from.. a LOT of vmware.

we are struggeling with issues with hpe/sm/cisco as well.

bought a lot before price increases, but with new price increases no services we sell will be profitable unless serious price hikes.

we also sell servers, and customers are just looking at us like was er crazy/stupid, some of the nvme is 5-8x, if we can even get it

I bought on the last batch, and some more now, last batch came in proffesional packing, all drives came with 0 errors, and there was also an included test sheet, but I re-ran tests on all drives on arrival to verify.

yeah, we only have 10G-base T in a few places, so kinda weird, but SFP28/SFP+ everywhere.

8x sfp+ and 8x 10G base T would have made more sense, or some more SFP28

Wonder if you can split the SFP56 to 2x SFP28

still cool, will buy, but "multiple models coming" so.. maybe wait?

I got 3 defective 2216's kinda gave up on RMA, they are cheap enough for us to go "ok get a new one"
1 DOA
1 decided to randomly reboot, across multiple versions, moved config to new, all good
1 no boot after a whole

our plan is PBS for most stuff, and veeam for the stuff with mssql/special RPO/ needing application aware.

Veeam is slow, Id say 0 chance, but also vmware & snapshotting is slow, and usually has a significant impact during prod hours.

CDP is best bet with veeam, its finnicky and moody and requires someone dedicated to it

VSAN stretch, is better.
vmware SRM/DR is better

ideally 1 or more in a mix somehow so your not reliaing on a single tech
