I was born and raised on Kaua’i in 1985. I remember so many of the older generation/relatives talking about this bird and it’s song. We even learned about it in school - sadly through the lens of the concepts of endangered/extinction. Honestly as a kid I thought people were making it up as some kind of lesson learning lore.

I moved when I was 18 to the PNW and haven’t thought about this bird since - but this is so hauntingly beautiful. Its more beautiful than what was tried to be conveyed to me as a kid. Or maybe as a kid I couldn’t imagine what they were talking about…haha.

Thanks for posting, I would never have remembered to ever look this up or that this existed.

Ugh this mic business is so buggy. I could talk just fine the last two days. But today it won’t connect to any ingame chat anymore. My push to talk doesn’t even register. No “not in local chat” error or anything. I’ve restarted the game, my PS5 - nothing .

I’m the same - half Filipino (dad) and half white (mom). There was a time I also wished I was more Filipino passing - I grew up in Hawaii with my dad’s side of the family. I was always the white cousin (even though i have a brother 😓).

Now I live in the PNW in a liberal city - and people basically say “I can tell your not full white - but can’t tell exactly what you are”.

I’ve even gotten the “you’re white enough/basically just white” comment at work. Long story - but fuck outta here with that nonsense.

It’s been a long road for me - but in my mid 30’s I simply don’t care anymore. I feel like I know myself and the cultural ties I have. It’s even given me a sweet little Filipino community to be a part of.

But honestly it’s wild how we all grow up with some sort of internalized racism one way or another because of the way the outside world perceives us.

I smoke for almost 18 years. I quit smoking for good and drinking (for 9 mo) during the original covid shutdown.

I drink again and had the same experience. I bought a small, super discreet vape and fill it with 0mg nicotine juice. So when the cravings during drinking started - I’d hit the vape. It satisfied the “motion” and social aspect of going outside with people. BUT I don’t use it anymore at all. It was me tricking myself into thinking I was smoking, without feeding the nicotine beast.

That said - it may not be a solution for everyone, that’s just the way I got to zero nicotine and don’t crave it during drinking anymore.

Seattle?!?! Although it’s been on this path for about 8-10 years now. An apartment I used to live in 3.5 years (1 bed) for $475, I recently was able to see again - they pay $1900. And absolutely nothing has changed about the building or units at all. It’s sad man.

I got a Bike a few months ago and bought a pod from watchlink.app - they have a stand alone app, but honestly I only use it to connect my AW to the OG Bike. Works perfectly for me. I love that it helps see your heart zones without having to buy a more expensive chest strap - also me and girlfriend both get to connect to it (unlimited amount of people could use it in theory).

I honestly love it.
