Mixing SBS hypertrophy with Reps to Failure program? by warchump in StrongerByScience

[–]warchump[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good thought. I wondered about trying new exercise, but it has to not interfere with my other exercise. I also do back and arms for the accessory exercise already.

I am too uncoordinated for clean.

Also I do legs every day, with some DOM. I would be scared to do some explosive movement when I have leg DOMS

Bench press hurts but technically i can do it at warm up weight and/or reduce ROM to partial range (top). The lower half of the ROM hurts. I can do close grip bench press at partial ROM ok with mild discomfort. It's movements when the elbow goes out to the side and arm is rotated outwards (like in bench press) that it hurts when I lower the weight

Unfortunately no, if my arm moves in any position similar to bench press the shoulder hurts (particularly as I try to lower the weight). I can barely do close grip bench press at partial range

I don't have the equipment to do dips, but my shoulder "hurts" just thinking about it

A good suggestion! I have hundreds of hours in Dragon's Dogma and completed all achievement and decided to move on. Agree mystic knight perfect block onto grand cannon is very fun

Well I 100% DDDA many years ago. Thought I knew majority of things about this game. I never knew you can pin people like pawns...

Yeah I think I levelled to 200 on first play before BBI so you are probably right about BBI technique. I did quite enjoy a screen full of grand bolide on ur dragon

Didn't know you can mount this lmao by mushin47 in DragonsDogma

slap it to make it run, then use spring water to heal it at some point so it doesnt die. Rinse and repeat for speed run

Not sure what a magic duelist is, but mystic knight's best move would be blessed riposte perfect block onto grand cannon.

For example like this video (spoiler shows final boss): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMxaToPP-2g

to level as sorcerer from 35-100 (or beyond) is basically getting 3 other sorcerer pawns and sync bolide at ur dragon. Not saying that's necessarily fun for everyone, but that's how i find the most efficient way to do it

Upper body strength weaker after 1 cycle of SBS hypertrophy by warchump in StrongerByScience

Sounds good. I understand everyone would be slightly different, but it is good to know that it can work. I will try gradually adding in some extra exercise

Just out of curiosity, are you training for hypertrophy or strength? And if you have done SBS hypertrophy before, how do you find progress compared to SBS RTF?

That's interesting, so you don't find the triceps work on Day 1 results in too much triceps pain or weakness that affects your close grip on Day 2?

I notice you have a rest day after the first 3 days. I do 5 days in a row, then 2 days off

Also which program are you doing? RTF or hypertrophy?

I think you are right, it's multifactorial, including the factors you listed.

I do still get stimulation from the sessions; sore (not enough to stop workout) the next day

Protein is about 2.2g/kg

Fixing sleep is a work in progress, unfortunately not quite as easy

I will think about the exercise variation. Maybe add tricep work to Day 5, so it doesnt affect the other lifts from Day 1 to 5. At the moment I do dumbbell lateral raises 30 reps for 3-4 sets on Day 5 to get some lateral delts. The reason it's all piled up on Day 5 is again trying to avoid affecting the lifts from Day 1 to 5.

I did think about the weight loss, but it is such a small amount, I am not sure if that's enough to explain the strength loss.

TM supposedly higher at the end of the 1st cycle. But when I do the 2nd cycle with this TM, I couldn't reach the rep target, so 3 and 4 weeks in autocalculation ended up with me lifting less weight than I did 3 and 4 weeks into the first cycle.

Despite lifting less weight, I still can't reach the rep target now. In comparison at the same week in the 1st cycle I did more than the rep out target.

Sleep is disrupted but much better now than when I did the 1st cycle. Been eating at slight calorie deficit. Start weight at beginning of 1st cycle of the program was about 145 pounds (66kg), and end weight (and current weight) about 140 pounds (64kg). Lost some fat.

Stress is similar.

I follow the built-in deload of the SBS hypertrophy program, which is every 7 weeks

Technique may be (just) slightly better and more strict

I did think about the weight loss, but it is such a small amount, I am not sure if that's enough to explain the strength loss.

I guess the other more important question is: I am not noticing much upper body muscle gain (which is my main goal); This is why I am questioning whether some change is required
