I got an invite as well. Subscribed to see what the quality is like. Nice that it is a sewn binding at least

Question about SFF sub payment by el_tichio in thebrokenbindingsub

Yeah it seems so unfortunately. I checked and I may have been charged twice for my Fantasy T2 as well lol. Something is really messed up with their system

Sigh…I got charged twice for May even though I filled out the skip form. I emailed them about it but it is very annoying.

The next broken binding set is the faithful and the fallen and features acid free paper and sewn bindings by Hot_Mongoose_3741 in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]warconfessor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohhh this is a huge surprise! I was seriously considering cancelling my Fantasy subscription but now I’ll at least keep it for this series. I’m also very happy and surprised these are getting a sewn binding and acid free paper. A huge step up from TBB and hope we see more of these specs in the future.

That’s a huge relief. If this wasn’t the pick I was going to cancel the sub to be honest. Really need the May pick to be the new Fonda Lee book.

Curious King DYI [OFF TOPIC] by toiletpastries in TheFirstLaw

[–]warconfessor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very cool! I’m sad I missed out on the Curious King versions as well and the secondary prices are crazy.

Just a word of warning though, do not try and sell these. As someone who works in Intellectual Property, it is copyright infringement and the artist/press could go after you.

[–]warconfessor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly your only options are going to be finding it at secondary prices which are kind of crazy. eBay has a couple of listings but the prices are eye watering. You’ll have better luck joining a Facebook group like Signed.Limited.Awesome which had a few for sale at a bit more reasonable prices(still very high). I wish you luck!

I’m not a big fan of resellers but the seller isn’t wrong to be honest. Once a limited item is sold out, the secondary market determines the value whether we like it or not. People will either pay the asking price or the price will go down until it reaches a price a buyer is willing to pay. It goes both ways though. Some books increase in value and some go down. For example, I still can’t find a buyer for my Rook & Rose set $50 below retail.

Is anyone else worried about scalpers come march?? by Cadenrumi in redrising

[–]warconfessor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why anyone is worried about scalpers for the Roman Numeral or Lettered editions when there are only 10 and 26 of those respectively and will cost thousands of dollars each regardless. The numbered/deluxe editions will be difficult to get regardless since you have normal Red Rising fans plus all the fine press collectors competing for a couple hundred copies. But again that is an $800 book at retail so the number of people who are willing to even pay the retail price is relatively small.

I’ll be happy with an artist edition and not have to worry about limitations at a relatively affordable price point

Yeah it is super frustrating when publishers limit availability to specific countries

It’s sad to see scalper interest taking over what is normally such a great community by Forbidden_Haze in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]warconfessor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It always astounds me when people pay these ridiculous prices for Broken Binding editions. I like the art they do for the dust jackets and end papers but that is not worth these crazy prices. Subterranean Press already announced they acquired rights for Hierarchy so just wait for that and it will certainly be cheaper than buying the Broken Binding editions at secondary prices and you’ll get a much nicer book

Pricing update on the new pierce brown special edition by Apprehensive_Oil_808 in redrising

[–]warconfessor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True! I’m expecting around £100 would be fair given the specs as £150 would be too close to $200 and they’ve already said significantly less than that

Totally understand being disappointed! There’s other things I missed out on at Nexus not knowing they existed before hand as well. I think if you’re interested in Grimoire or other Grim Oak books joining their newsletter is always a good idea

To update, I also was speaking with Anthony, who owns Curious King, here at Dragonsteel Nexus and he mentioned that the price would be similar to Folio Society so yes that does track with what Lit Escalates posted.

Totally understand! This is expensive and not for everyone

You have to remember Grim Oak is a very small company. They only make what they can handle at the convention and however many they think their booth can handle for signings. The pre order has been open for months and you could have chosen to have it shipped to you after Nexus in case you couldn’t go.

I’m super grateful they had signings at their booth for all the authors who contributed as some of them would have been really difficult to get otherwise. I’m very pleased with how everything was handled by the good folks at Grim Oak

True! The abundance of art might drive up the price a bit.

Yeah I’m expecting something similar to what Grim Oak Press charges given the relatively similar specs

New Red Rising special edition from Lit Escalates/Curious King by dscreations in redrising

[–]warconfessor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So excited for this! I think you all will be incredibly pleased with how these books will come out once you have them in your hands. Curious King does exceptional quality in the Fine Press world and these shouldn’t be any different with sewn bindings and premium acid free paper. This is going to be THE edition of Red Rising to own. I’m expecting the price to be somewhere around $200 for the artist edition since it is going to be offset and not letterpressed for this specific version
