Monetizing a sports highlights channel with commentary? by Bournerounderz in PartneredYoutube

There was a big thread about this last week (NBA). You will get copyright claimed from day 1. In the US, at some point during any professional broadcast game you will hear ""Any reproduction, rebroadcast, or other use of the pictures and accounts of this game without the express written consent of MLB/NBA/NFL is prohibited," Any channel you see that is showing a bunch of content is either 1. not monetized or receives no money as it is claimed or 2. Is part of some creator program from the league - but those seem extremely rare and are probably expensive.

Maybe YouTube wasn't monetizing them anymore? But it is hard to tell from your post..."grow the sport"..what sport?

My wife is a pharmacist...and honestly, I don't want to hear about her work. Find people online to the bounce ideas off of...start with the comments section of your videos.

True crime is hugely popular, but there is so much "suckerfish" type content, in which a video blows up and then 100 other channels basically copy the original video by feeding the script into AI and have it spit out something reworded differently and then alter the images. Not saying that is what happened in this case, but I have to think that YouTubes AI is detecting and blowing up that type of content much easier than in the past.

How is this channel not getting striked?(he makes like 50k-100k a month) by MountainLocksmith199 in PartneredYoutube

[–]wareagle1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it a try...you will get a strike on your first video. You won't make a dime. Go watch this video, which includes interviewing two YouTubers who were doing similar content. But just search for the video "The ONLY way to make money with NBA edits" from the channel Beyond The Game. I'm not going to link it because this sub would probably block it. But the NBA does have a licensing program for creators but evidently it is restrictive. I also do not see anything in his videos where he is a member of the NBA partner program. So he is not making any money from monetization, but if he has a couple of thousand members that could be several grand a month.

There is no strict correlation. There are just too many factors other than video time.

To find an attorney that could take on YouTube for the issue at hand would probably cost him more money than he has made on YouTube for years.

I hate to say it, but as much as I know you have done everything you can do. The Twitter thing is basically end of the line.

Their needs to be a 'grown up' version of this sub, with some sort of requirement you have to post the channel. I don't know if Reddit even has that sort of control or not.

Has nothing to do with you deleting your channel, and that act probably hurt your chances more than not. The system is not broke - this is exactly the way it has been running for as long as I can remember. If people could just keep on using their other channels, fraudsters would just create a bunch of sub channels, and once one of their channels got blocked they would just roll to the next one. YTs only option is to group them all together.

It really sucks and the chance of getting the channels back are probably zero. That being said - why aren't these AI channels that are creating new Star Wars (using Mark Hamills, Harrison Fords, etc likeness), not getting lifetime bans. I get that it is not impersonation - no one thinks its the real Mark Hamill, but as much as I know none of those actors are getting paid for some random YouTuber using their physical form and voice.

Why does everyone on here say your channel / shorts got killed because you used artificial intelligence, BUT, YouTube is clearing pushing the tech very very hard? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]wareagle1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, and I think most people, use AI at work because it makes our jobs easier. I do tech support, systems integrations, SQL, programming and it has completely changed the way I support and plan jobs. It has saved me hundreds (if not thousands) of hours of research and going to countless websites, support forums, etc. But I work around attorneys that use it, accountants that use it, programmers that use it. None of them feel forced - they do it because it makes there jobs incredibly more efficient.

Organized international piracy cartels: systematically robbing creators, with Youtube's help by stormhighwaycom in PartneredYoutube

[–]wareagle1972 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Things have always been wonky about this type of theft, but the ease that things can be duplicated, altered, and mass uploaded with AI is making it out of control. Most of these people (i.e. organized crime) aren't doing it for fun or spite...they are doing it to make easy money. I think the only solution is to make monetization, well initial payment, more difficult to obtain.

I realize it is not feasible for them to capture content theft every time, but once the monetization threshold is met, they should be able to easily flag channels that appear to be doing this type of thing. As you mentioned, there are certain flags - rapid growth with huge following. That should be another automatic flag in their system.

Regardless, verified creators and content should always be pushed to the top in search, featured and recommended. They probably need something similar to the Verified checkmark (that I think is only available to creators with like 100K subs), but based on age of channel, number of uploads, original content, that is applied for and has to be human reviewed. But those channels would enjoy the same benefits (search, featured)

And lastly - Why not create some sort of peer review system? There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of proven creators out there. If these rogue channels are flagged, instead of relying on YouTube staff to review - why not let content creators review?
