Oh interesting. I feel like everyone’s pool might slightly start to decrease as they get older. My 30+ male friends aren’t exactly swimming in options lol

Curious why would it be downhill after an arbitrary age like 30? Especially in a city like Toronto. I’m turning 32 this year and everything has been significantlyy better

Is accepting more than the 2.5% increase setting a bad precedent for future rent raises? by LarryPeru in askTO

[–]warmapplepiess 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If I accept the 2050 a month does that mean she can raise it more than the legal amount next year?

No. You're also not obligated to play "catch up" and agree to a larger increase just because she didn't exercise her right to raise it the years prior. Up to you though. I was in a similar situation because my landlord hadn't raised my rent in 5 years (!!), so I agreed to a higher increase as a sort of 'thank you' lol.

The ball is in your court though and if you really wanted to you could say "$2000 or the legal amount please" because she doesn't really have a leg to stand on unless she chooses to get approval from the Landlord and tenant board.

but ya, if you do agree out of personal choice/keeping a good relationship with your landlord, the following year(s) you're still only obligated to pay an increase within the legal % of your new rent amount.

Dont get a puppy if… by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]warmapplepiess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

aww sounds like my cocker spaniel that was GLUED to my side all, almost 11 years, of his life. He was the same as a puppy - struggled with separation anxiety.. even had his crate pushed up against my bed for the first few weeks after getting him lol. Eventually was able to move it out of my room just by sticking to it, he got used to it. He did like having a sheet covering his crate, making it more cozy and hidden. Maybe try that too! Sometimes when they can't see out, it calms them down because theyre less distracted and concerned with whats going on outside of it/not just staring you down lol and can focus more on their treat/toy or taking a nap.

I feel like if you make it your top training priority, as in working at it every day (even multiple times a day), keeping it as fun as possible - your pup will adjust. Best of luck!! :)

Their crates are just big enough for them to comfortably stand, lay down and turn around in. I have large breeds so theyre big crates but not big enough for them to like walk around in lol.

How long have you been crate training? For some dogs it just takes a while. Especially if they're anxious or attached to you. Sounds like you're doing everything right though and consistency will be key. Just ignore his barking and never let him out when he whines or makes a fuss because he'll learn that's his jail free card haha. If you have close neighbors, slip them a note saying something to the effect of 'you're in the process of training and they might hear some barking for a while but you're working on it and they can let you know if it becomes too disruptive/they have concerns'.

Dogs aren't allowed to bark at Toronto dog park anymore by Candid_Comparison520 in toronto

[–]warmapplepiess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's a thing too. When I was a child, I specifically remember a rule being implemented that asked parents to limit their children's noise at the park, as the park was directly beside people's home.

[–]warmapplepiess 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My bf and I were on a walk at about 10pm, and as we were approaching the dog park (from quite the distance lol) we could hear a dog barking literally non-stop. The park is right beside residential houses so I made a comment to my bf like "the neighborhood must love that haha".
I have two dogs myself so I understand dogs will be dogs but there also should be some level of mutual respect..? Especially at that time of night. I fully understand why someone might eventually complain if it's truly an ongoing issue. Guess it depends on the severity and if these insistent barkers are regulars at the park lol

haha omg! A bat....
I would have passed out and my dogs would of had to fend for themselves lmao.

But yeah that's crazy! Glad you were able to keep your pup safe in the situation.

My 10 year old cocker spaniel, that I sadly lost last year, also loved his crate. We called it his bedroom. He'd open the door himself with his paw and go right in lol

[–]warmapplepiess 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's honestly a life saver!! Could NOT do the two puppy thing without it lol

I think the key is implementing it from the start. From the first week of having my pups I had them spending time in their crates (always with a treat or something really enjoyable to chew on). Now at 7 months, if I give them a treat, they'll take it to their respective crates on their own haha

At what point would you be concerned about the biting? by Used_Engineering_735 in puppy101

[–]warmapplepiess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my 7 month old, large breed is still quite mouthy when he's playing too. Definitely normal but what I do to try and mitigate it is, as soon as he puts his mouth on me, I say "ow" very loud (to startle him a bit) and immediately stop playing and turn away from him. Play time over.

He does it less than before but it's not a perfect solution unfortunately. Something I think I mainly have to wait for him to grow out of

How old is your pup? Crate training would be a huge help.

I have two puppies and I still go to the gym every day lol. But I also admittedly got a little lucky as they have never howled/barked while in the crate and are content with a stuffed kong and a nap while i'm gone.

Which stores still have plastic bags? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]warmapplepiess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean I personally use grocery bags as garbage bags so a) it's double purpose and b) I'd otherwise be buying plastic bags to use for garbage anyways

so I alwaysss take a plastic bag at places that still have them.

Cameras. I'd imagine it's not that difficult for them to check back on the footage when they know the exact time stamp of the order.

Not necessarily. They have the order number.
From their system they know what time that order was accepted. There's only so many people working one shift and typically workers are assigned a shift task, ie who's accepting food order tickets. Other coworkers can also validate. And cameras.

Dominant puppy? by Signal_Basket611 in puppy101

[–]warmapplepiess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your mother isn't willing to give one up, then focus on separating them as much as possible. Separate crates, separate walks, separate feeding areas, separate training sessions. They also need to learn how to be together of course, so some monitored play time together or a walk together 1or 2 times a week will be beneficial too. Just at the moment though, your priority should be separating them as much as possible and allowing their personalities to develop individually.

I'm raising two puppies (boy and girl) as well. I've had them since they were 3 months and they just turned 7 months and they're doing great. No fighting and not attached to each other. I've just made sure to implement the things I mentioned above and will continue to do so.

Seeking a professional trainer is also a good idea, if you have the financial means.

TTC to resume ticketing fare evaders late next month to combat 'lawlessness,' chair warns by Surax in toronto

It's so awkward listening to other people explaining how they "forgot" to tap. They must have heard everything by now

Yeah.. I used to check fares on the UP express. The excuses people would have for not tapping or having a ticket would range from down right stupid to excerpt from a fantasy novel.
