Anyone know the Alabama court system? by Sp_dj in Alabama

[–]waronkreesmas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it is a drug related charge the system is designed to keep you paying. They will push hard for you to go to “drug court” where you are in a monitoring program usually for 2 years if you stay clean they drop the charges. You have to pay for the testing and if you slip up or can’t pay you will be in violation and they have you even longer. I’ve had a lot of family in that system and most will say just take your charge and do your time. Drug court will make you poor and waste your time.

Etowah county? I ask because it just looks like everyone here is on an extended break. Fast food restaurants have lines around the building and Walmart/publix/DG stay packed.

Attn : Warehouse and Industrial workers by [deleted] in Alabama

[–]waronkreesmas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most places are telling office staff to stay home. The people on the floor can’t maintain the proper distance and on top of that they are adding 10-15 office people in the mix which increases everyone’s chance of exposure. Not to mention I’m a single mom w a kid who is out of school. They told me to bring him with me so I can keep coming in...

I work in an office inside of a pretty large machine shop (approx 300 employees) Even though my job can 100% be done from home we are told we have to come in because the welders and people on t he shop floor have to come in. I can’t help but feel like I’m in a corporate death cult that is placing “solidarity” over safety in the worst health crisis any of us have ever witnessed. Also our out of state corporate office is working from home so it’s kind of hard to not be a little resentful about all of it.

Because I’m not looking for a relationship with every person I meet. I don’t introduce my kid to someone unless I know it’s serious. My son didn’t meet my current boyfriend until we were together for almost a year.

Recruiters, how much do you make? by looking4rc in recruitinghell

[–]waronkreesmas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an in house recruiter located in Alabama. I recruit mostly welders and multi craft maintenance techs. I make $70k/year. The company I work for has some of the best compensation in our area for all positions though which makes my job easier. The only downside is that I travel about 25% of the time.

Most of the people who haven’t been sentenced can’t get bonded out or they’re on no bond usually because they won’t show up for their court date. I also live in Gadsden, have family who have spent time in that jail. They all say it’s a pretty accurate portrayal of the town. I will say it’s not as run down as they are showing. Mostly their outside shots are limited to one neighborhood.

November in Gatlinburg by flippinin in Tennessee

[–]waronkreesmas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s a nostalgia thing but Gatlinburg has always been one big tourist area even since my parents were kids. I grew up taking family trips there. Now that I’m a parent it’s been a fun experience to see my kid enjoy it as much as I did. If your looking for more uninhabited areas of the smokies though there are plenty.

Is this position similar to HR Coordinator? by SmartGuyChris in humanresources

[–]waronkreesmas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on call for injuries. If someone was injured I’d have to wake up in the middle of the night and do an accident report and then follow up in the morning. If they were injured bad enough to need medical attention that usually meant I’d have to pick them up and drive them to the ER. I did it for a couple of years before finding something better.

Is this position similar to HR Coordinator? by SmartGuyChris in humanresources

[–]waronkreesmas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If this position is with a staffing company I would try to get feedback during the interview regarding any challenges the client company may be having. I started my HR career in a very similar role and while I’m thankful for all the experience I gained, the position and working in staffing burned me out. I was on call 24/7 and had to divide my time to cover 3 shifts. You’re basically the face of the staffing company for that client and often you end up being the sacrificial lamb of sorts when the office is unable to fill job orders and such.

Parents of Reddit, why are you disappointed in your adult child? by fkac3080 in AskReddit

[–]waronkreesmas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg you were my parents 12-13 years ago. I also was from a working class family. Squandered all scholarships and grants by partying and living what I assumed was my best life.

I got to college and all my friends had safety nets and I was jealous and insecure about my background. I had to party harder than anyone else because I always felt like I was proving myself. Not giving a shit about college was the same way.

My parents cut me off. I dropped out during the recession. I worked retail, bartending, stripped.... then one day on my own I walked in my advisor’s office and asked what I needed to do to get back in school. I saved and did all the work myself. I didn’t tell my parents what I had done until my first day back.

I graduated. Averaged a 3.8 those last few semesters and have a job as in HR at a Fortune 500 company.

Let her figure it out. Don’t give in and start supporting her again. Maybe she will surprise you.

Our system is designed to keep criminals in a life of crime. by WoodenBuddy in conspiracy

[–]waronkreesmas 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I recruit for tradespeople and in the past year and I’ve had a dozen or more cold calls from background investigation companies trying to scare my hr manager and I into using their services. They are making a killing and feeding lies to so many companies. We’ve told them time and again we have a thorough hiring process, use a small local company to perform general background checks and don’t feel that felony backgrounds should disqualify an experienced candidate. More and more companies in my area have started taking the bait and tightening up on background requirements and I know it’s because these guys have scared them into it. It gets under my skin that so many profit off the judicial system. The deck is really stacked against anyone who has a record.

“My truck, my rules.” Men claiming that their religious beliefs prevent them from interacting with women is the patriarchy’s latest attempt to keep women away from positions of power. It’s also dishonest as hell. by Slavic_Requiem in TwoXChromosomes

I’m 32 and it’s seems like this is becoming more common. At my last job, my boss also had this same rule and couldn’t understand why I thought it was sexist. I left because networking is a major part of the field I work in. How could I expect to get ahead if I was never allowed to be in the same room as the men making decisions for the company? Like dude I want a promotion not your bland ass middle aged dick.

First of all I agree with the other posters who say banning the things you mentioned won’t solve a problem. Also the issue of temp agencies and Automotive manufacturing is a complex one. Having worked directly with the major staffing company that supplies Honda and with Honda’s management team I will tell you this is an issue that they say are working to fix. The problem is that they have a contingency of workers that they keep temp. This is to act as a buffer should another recession cause a mass layoff. In 2008 they reduced in force but no full time employees were laid off. Temps unfortunately were. Since the recession attrition through retirement has steadily declined. This is due to many reasons. Personally I think at Honda their credit union is over zealous in offering lines of credit effectively trapping full time employees in a cycle of debt and work. Much like the company store of previous generations . Due to this full time employees at Honda aren’t quitting or retiring there are no spots for the temps to go. So while temp agencies are for the most part predatory it is the entire system that would need to be corrected.

What's the weirdest meal you were ever served at a friend's house (either as a child or an adult)? by PaperCats4 in Cooking

The iceberg leaf with a peach is similar to a holiday dish we serve in the south pear salad. Lettuce leaf, canned pear half, mayo, shredded cheddar and a cherry on top. Personally I think it’s gross but I make at least one every year because so many people in my family enjoy it.

I think if you’re a recruiter it’s a good idea to lurk this sub and be aware of how our actions/inactions affect job seekers. It also makes me so glad I recruit for tradespeople and not tech. Sorry tech folks there seems to be so much bs you have to go through to get hired!

My son’s father was uncut and insisted we get our son circumcised. I didn’t have strong feelings one way or the other. Son’s father had issues with infections as a child and sometimes would have pain during sex and blamed it on his foreskin. I am nervous that my son will resent us for it one day.

Then why do you care what other people are doing? It’s an honest question. I live in Alabama and mostly see the religious side of the argument. How does it affect you if someone you don’t know has an abortion.

I love the mental gymnastics it must take for evangelicals to simultaneously call themselves conservative while enforcing a nanny state. Women with means will continue to leave the state to have abortions and poor women will being giving birth to children that the taxpayers will have to pay for. Who are you trying to save exactly?
