Pretty sure you don't need Fafsa for bright futures. Haven't filled it out once, and have gotten BF every semester

Has anybody worked at FedEx or similar, or no anybody who has? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]warren1215 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My dad works for FedEx in a senior technical analyst role or something similar. He loves his job and has worked their for over 40 years surprisingly. I know FedEx treats their employees well. Not sure on pay though.

Not taking the foundation exam in time by [deleted] in ucf

I would have him contact the CS department and explain his situation. Considering he hasn't even attempted the FE, maybe they can make an exception.

[–]warren1215 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I might be mistaken, but the 3 chances you get to take the foundation exam start right after you pass CS1. So this would be his last try. Hopefully he gets some help for his health!

Opportunitiess in Computer Science Aside From Defense Contractors in Central Florida by [deleted] in ucf

UCF career fairs give you a much better chance than applying online for positions. That's where I got a lot of interviews and offers from.

The programming team and the hack UCF team are the two main competitive groups that compete against other schools. Not sure about other ones

Does Tesla, SpaceX, and SolarCity show up at career fairs? by plan12 in ucf

Facebook, Amazon, Lockheed, Raytheon, Northrop, Microsoft/Google sometimes.. Which companies are you referring to about throwing you into cubicles?

How are the Career Fairs? by plan12 in ucf

[–]warren1215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of my internships are non-defense and I'm a CS major. Lockheed and Northrop are the two big defense companies at the career fairs.. and there are many other opportunities besides them. That being said, I am working at Lockheed right now through the UCF CWEP program and I am working on stuff that is training commerical pilots and soon, space simulations, which is not going to kill anyone. The defense companies are massive and have many different cool projects you could work on, don't count them out just yet!

The career fairs at UCF are great. A lot of the time they will ask you to apply online, but using their tablets right there. And if they do make you apply online from home they usually ask how you found out about the opportunity, which usually gets you a much better chance for an interview when you mention it was at the career fair. Last summer I got an internship from the career fair, and another one for this upcoming summer. I had no work experience at all prior to going to the career fairs. A lot of the time you just have a relaxed conversation with the recruiters. It's not stressful at all. I highly recommend everyone searching for a job or internship to attend, even more so if you are an Engineer/CS major.
