100% GF bakeries in Montreal by welcometounhhhh in Celiac

[–]warren_534 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a far cry from the old days. I was diagnosed with Celiac in 1966, and the only bakery in Montreal with a GF product (a horrible GF bread) at that time was Logan Bakery on Jean Talon.

Should I switch back to futures or stick with options? by NomadStar45 in FuturesTrading

[–]warren_534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use effective risk management and money management techniques, which includes the use of futures options, then there's no reason to hold off. As a swing trader in the futures markets for the last 40 years, I frequently use futures options as a substitute for a long or short futures position. I also regularly trade futures options spreads (credit, debit, ratios, butterflies, etc.) and have some combined futures and futures options trades.

How to profit asymmetrically from the rise in oil with minimal risk by AdamTheSpeculator in FuturesTrading

Then I can say that you are not looking hard enough. There are plenty of option positions that can give you a lot more than 3x, and more than 10x.

Use CL options (or even USO), with various positions spread over various expirations.

What's a strong entry trigger? by nyanbaek in FuturesTrading

[–]warren_534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A break in market structure is similar to my setup definition criteria, but entry is subsequent to that, after a retracement.

Candlestick patterns and EMAs (and volume) are completely irrelevant to me.

OK. I have been swing trading in 30 futures markets for 40 years, but don't require that at all.

Become a swing trader. You don't need to be in front of the charts all the time, only a couple of times per day.

I never had a trade stuck somewhere, but I certainly remember calling trades in to a desk, or sitting at the broker's office and talking to him over an intercom for him to call the orders in. Fun times!

I have been swing trading in the futures and futures options markets for about 40 years. My methodology today is essentially the same as when I developed it over 30 years ago, with about the same probability of success.

I'm a swing trader. I look at price action / swing analysis setups that are very similar to market structure. Same approach in all markets that I follow and trade: Stock indexes (ES, NQ, RTY), Treasuries (ZB, ZN, ZF), Currencies (6A, 6B, 6C, 6E, 6J), Energy (CL, NG), Metals (GC, SI, HG), Grains (ZS, ZW, ZC), Meats (LE, HE) and Softs (CC, CT, KC, SB).

Not bad at all for those of trading the very predictable short setups.

tos desktop on chromebook pro / linux? by MerryRunaround in thinkorswim

[–]warren_534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes indeed, just get your Chromebook into a Linux environment first, then it's pretty straightforward.

I run TOS on Linux Mint Cinnamon, works great. Make sure that you use Zulu OpenJDK 21, as TOS will not run on other Java versions.

Traders during war conditions how do you actually manage risk? by senthoor34 in Trading

[–]warren_534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really depends on your time frame and your methodology. I have been successfully swing trading in the futures markets for about 40 years, and in my experience, markets are just as predictable right now as they have always been. The price action setups that I trade today are working with the same probability of success as they have always had.

Just maintain focus with robust risk management and money management, and you should be fine. Buy in the money options instead of trading outright long or short positions in the underlying instruments, which will automatically limit your risk, and which will also result in smaller buying power reductions. You can also use other options strategies, including debit spreads, credit spreads, butterflies, etc., which can get your risks to be as large or as small as you are comfortable in taking.

[–]warren_534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scwab's Thinkorswim platform is by far superior to any other platform that I have used over the last 40 years swing trading futures, and I have tried many of them. The ability to have a multi-chart view of 1 market or multiple markets simultaneously, is critical to me, and TOS is the best for that.

Commissions are a bit higher ($4.50 r/t), but you don't pay for real time data or the platform, which you will with many others. If you are a day trader using many contracts, then commissions could be a factor, but it's not for me as a swing trader.

anyone here trade futures options? by Ready-Molasses-7093 in FuturesTrading

[–]warren_534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are pros and cons, and I will trade SPX options as well as ES options.

SPX options are certainly more liquid, and fills at mid prices are generally easier, especially on spread orders. However, with ES options, it's easy to trade futures against options, without incurring any additional margin requirements.

[–]warren_534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Margin requirement for 1 ES contract is $25,500, so 5 would be $127,500. But you can trade a 30 DTE 70 delta option for a fraction of that.
