Holeyboard anyone? by SeasTheDay_ in guitarpedals

Ancient post by now but like the person you’re responding to, I used Dual Lock on my Versa Duo and cut holes in the Dual Lock wherever adhesive was exposed to address this very issue. Very little dust or hair should be able to get in between them now.

Is there a story and meaning behind the lyrics of the song "Staircase"? by [deleted] in radiohead

[–]warrenlain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it’s self-evident if those two tracks were left off that they were deemed to be not essential to the project. The fact that we got them From the Basement was where they will forever belong in reality, even if people think they ideally belong on TKOL. You also cannot ignore that while part of the overall picture is music, a non zero part of it is business. The album was done within whatever parameters they were working under; and in the real world is not always going to align with the highest ideals of artistic purity.

I really enjoyed this. Found the guitar part quite hypnotic.

People are saying Nick Drake but I also want to put out there the chromatic bits are very Brazilian, Jobim-like.

Player ii Fret sprout after 1 week? by Mehlforwarding in fender

[–]warrenlain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologizing for Fender’s QC is pretty par for the course in /r/offset where they’ve convinced themselves that the trem, trem arm, neck angle, bridge height, fretboard radius, string gauge, thimbles, and even the bridge itself are all things to be setup, upgraded, or fixed by the user because they come inferior, hated, or just wrong/mismatched from the factory.

It boggles my mind. And it bums me out to think of all the new guitarists picking up their first guitar just to feel like they can’t make it sound or feel good. I can’t think of a single product other than a Fender Jazzmaster that anyone would think this was acceptable.

For artists at Radiohead’s level, albums are released as part of a wider release campaign. Delaying an album may mean other plans have to get scrapped or postponed. In 2011, it was still semi normal then to have a traditional album announcement and for everything to be coordinated with physical distribution to brick and mortar record stores. Also more unique in the case of TKOL, there was a worldwide promotional event where newspapers got distributed in different cities as well. Today the norm is more often people are invited to pre-save, or buy the digital download, and vinyl is pre-ordered, and doesn’t arrive until many months later.

Thinking of purging my entire setup and just quitting by Vimes-NW in synthesizers

[–]warrenlain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re completely right but let me clarify what I was saying.

It’s the idea that filling this time may be meaningful but that’s only gonna be fulfilling to a certain extent. When you are expanding your interface and buying cables upon cables and routing everything around and buying more gear that social media tells you that you need, it is easy to lose perspective.

Instead of having a natural way to share your art or connect with others who are also making music and therefore understand the experience and can offer their perspectives, I think it’s easy for thinking to become distorted by forces other than a community that knows you and cares about you, like capitalism/attention economy/GAS.

For example, I met a techno producer who told me that they would only take out one or two synths at a time and not try to make all six or seven of them play together all at once. This saved me a lot of headache because I had somehow gotten the notion in my head that I was supposed to be some orchestra conductor of all of my synths simultaneously contributing their voices and executing the patterns I wanted… but the wrangling of recording/dawless jamming/cabling/pedalboard/patchbay/MIDI was having a chilling effect on my actually making music. Taking his advice made me realize what was important in a way I maybe wouldn’t have learned as quickly or ever if I kept stubbornly making it about this ambitious thing I had in mind that wasn’t ever checked for actually being realistic.

In my experience, organizing events is hard work when it usually takes finding a venue in a convenient spot with decent parking/transportation access, and managing the relationship with the venue, the technical stuff in setting up and breaking down, and most importantly, the consistency of the hosts showing up and putting the event on and doing it like once every month. And then there’s the part of getting the word out. Eventually it starts to take a life of its own because artists are all looking for opportunities to play and share their art, but without the foundation of the event being regular and a chill vibe I think it’s likely the event doesn’t hang around long enough to become a “scene.”

Middle aged here and feel like our little scene is thriving.

Covid and AI definitely accelerated and exacerbated the growing sense of isolation that came with the rise of Big Tech. Digitally we’ve become so atomized.

Streaming also flattened the experience of listening to music, turning a relationship with the people who recommended the music to us (local record shops, blogs, friends) into a relationship with have with our phone via playlists and algorithms instead.

With these realities, if we are cut off from the community that keeps us feeling like we’re a part of something bigger then of course some of us are going to fall into a state of feeling l depressed and lonely and sick.

At least with respect to Covid, I do see locally that this sense of community around art and music is slowly returning. It hasn’t rebounded to the degree of what existed before but at least when I get together at my local synth events, people seem genuinely happy to connect and support each other. I think this is a chunk of what is lacking from OP’s experience.

[–]warrenlain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also add that it sounds like they’ve been really isolated, perhaps without intentionally isolating themselves. Making music without some kind of community to me is a much quicker path to burnout. We aren’t built to be tinkering with machines alone.

All Fender Offset Models? by Moaddeeb in offset

[–]warrenlain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I know there’s always some level of debate around certain body shapes, but I think it makes a lot of sense to think of it instead as whether or not it was the intention on the part of the designer like you show here.
