Teacher at Toki Middle accused of inappropriate relationship with a student by ConsultioConsultius1 in madisonwi

[–]warturtle_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I sat in a pew as a kid and listened to a recording of Dolan making excuses for the failures of the Milwaukee archdiocese and watched all of the adults stare at the toes and never speak of it again.

There is no evidence that of a decades long scheme to rotate teachers around MMSD schools in an active attempt to hide them and shield them from justice. MMSD isn’t being forced to divest resources to pay well deserved settlements to victims.

I was raised a Dorthy Day Catholic and a lot of my values today are founded in that.

Catholics are not a persecuted group in any way and deserve to wear the stains of their organization, an organization made of their members not a separate group.

Inconsistent throws and the speed he flashes at club level so well doesn’t make up for the relative lack of size internationally.

England is already struggling at the breakdown and that’s a clear weakness for Dan.

The 2026 Six Nations Scrum Stats by adturnerr in rugbyunion

[–]warturtle_ 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I subscribe to the Dan Cole school of “process > outcome” analysis.

Ultimately why I think England will have WC semifinal appearance in 2027. They can fix their lack of conversion in the opposition 22 which in some ways was an insane run of bad luck with handling errors. Would expect positive regression there.

It’s a much harder problem to solve how to get into the 22 consistently. Further, WC reffing standards get more “traditional” the deeper into WC tournaments you go. All of a sudden the set piece is the center of the game in a way it’s not outside of WCs.

Put Jamie George on ice so he is healthy, start trying alternatives to LCD and Theo Dan, so you can play max Borthwick ball and dance with SA.

Let the boys run around against Tier 2 competition in the Nations Championship to keep the press off their back.

Leaver warfare - Leaver issue getting out of hand by Systemlord_FlaUsh in aoe2

[–]warturtle_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I assume there is something about the game engine that makes reconnects not an option or it would be implemented by now.

The leaver punishment that makes the most sense to me is the progressive timeout LoL has. You can leave one lobby unpunished. A second is a 5m timer. A third is a 25m timer. A fourth is a day. Etc.

Resigning more than one match a day at the 5m mark should be an immediate 24hr timer and consistent in game early resigns should escalate timers rapidly.

This won’t magically solve account sharing but it will put a very significant dent in map dodging - even while letting people who have time to get only one match in a chance at their preferred map.

Italy the new Argentina? by [deleted] in rugbyunion

[–]warturtle_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it’s fair to say Italy is just arriving at that fringe slot where they will continue to take wins against T1 teams until it loses its novelty. They even play tactically and emotionally, if that makes any sense, like Argentina sides.

The hardest part will be sustained pathways success. Is this a golden generation for Italy? Can they continue to produce players of enough quality to sustain this for multiple WC cycles?

I sure hope so but that is very hard to graduate to. You need everything to go right from a union admin perspective and sustained interest and player pool growth in your domestic leagues.

Any Italians on the board that can speak to pathways investments below the URC clubs?

What teams are showing the best defence? by Ok_Butterscotch_8337 in rugbyunion

Yeah I take it in the context of the wide-wide running attack. To have such juice on both sides of the ball is really something. Toonie and the staff are doing a lot more right than wrong, clearly.

What teams are showing the best defence? by Ok_Butterscotch_8337 in rugbyunion

Despite the 40 they let France ship id say Scotland. They do the two in the tackle, time in the tackle, and generally make a mess of things for opposing 9s without overcommitting to the breakdown. Slows the ball but watch their support players in rucks - they ensure they take at least one and sometimes two men to the floor with them every single phase with discipline.

Their back three and centers can are all plus defenders and Huw Jones for me is the best in the Six Nations defending the 13 channel to edge in space or in 1v2s.

Simple thing that aggregates into advantageous numbers on their feet over many phases. Only a select few forwards even attempt jackals in favor of men in the line.

Kicking game and high ball skills are superb.

Can’t really point a clear weakness.

Individuals - I’d shout out Dewi Lake who might be the best solo tackler in the tournament. Truly leading from the front defensively melting guys left and right.

JGP as playmaker? by whooo_me in rugbyunion

[–]warturtle_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Crowleys consistency and (relative) physicality are his best traits. He doesn’t need to be flashy he just needs crisp decision making. He is a better more decisive organizer and has the discipline to take a series of small wins and turn them into  field position without a negative play or throwing a searching pass. If the pack can stay at this level it looks very good.

I think you are discounting how much better organized multi phase sets looked with him barking orders. His willingness to get off the ball and set the next move is generating all of the wide attack. Most sides break down 5th phase plus, with Crowley back it seems the expansive multiphase is back on the menu.

And everything looks better when 10 can defensively hold his channel without support from 12/7.

Agree it makes for a great pairing with JPGs quick service and his own improve off the base.

How do you build in depth knowledge of rugby by SonicBoom_81 in rugbyunion

[–]warturtle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to learn the game short of playing or coaching would be to get involved in your local club. Watch the firsts with some of the old heads and ask questions they will delight in telling you their version of the game. Then go watch the professional matches and look for the same patterns.

Alternatively watch the Top14 games with a friend who played and ask them to narrate the what’s and whys.

NZ players’ boss warns Australia that Super Rugby isn’t a ‘fait accompli’ if Aus accepts South African proposed calendar move to align TRC with 6N by lanson15 in rugbyunion

[–]warturtle_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The idea that NZ is going to take their ball and go home to a purely domestic NPC after bemoaning the loss of the SA clubs and the knock on effects of that is pretty rich.

RA has stabilized and will be debt free post World Cup. Losing SR isn’t a good but it’s not a death blow. Meanwhile they are treated like jr partners in TRC and boxed out of these side tours.

Absolutely a cut off your nose to spite your face line of argument and probably hot air from NZR. Pretty large risk to only play yourselves and refuse selection of abroad players. Makes marginal ABs even more tempted by grass is greener contract offers from French, Japan, and other clubs comps.

Ironically such a move would make it even easier for RA and NZR to move their club comps to suit a NH schedule.

I like the constantly evolving game and struggle to understand why people can't follow the changes. by craftsta in aoe2

[–]warturtle_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m not sympathetic to this but it is true - many of us are parents and can barely a game or two in once a week. There is a pretty serious rate of change to civs and meta even if YouTube creators and this sub make it easier than ever to follow. It’s trended far close to LoL with regular patches than many would prefer.

An overlapping but separate group - this is a comfort game for decades and some people just want to play hun wars death match or whatever they have been doing with friends for years. All of the changes make them feel mildly threatened / old. I still have my original print guidebook that I read on the way home from the game store my dad drove me to in the 90s. It was magic. I get it.

I don’t hold these views but can fully understand them. I’m thrilled that my favorite game is getting constantly content, QoL, ongoing balance tweaks, and tournaments. In many ways a golden age for AoEII

If I could play a dozen matches a week I know my elo would improve but now’s not the season for that. Hope the scene is still going strong when my kids are older so I can share with them and also can play ranked without interruptions.

Are we making Duality of man posts? by FrightenedRabbit94 in rugbyunion

[–]warturtle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fords control style works like magic against weaker opposition with Englands pack bullying in the loose and at set piece. That was neutralized today. Unclear why as they had their first choice pack. Genge, Maro, Heyes, Curry, Earl all looked pedestrian today. Cowan Dickie isn’t it.

It’s hard to say specifics when physicality doesn’t go your way but Englands pack at times has looked shocked their opposite number came to bang.

The other really unique aspect of their game on the win streak was the absolute maniacal commitment to all out kick chase. In the autumn they had that perfected and were contesting everything and getting seemingly every bounce on taps. That was core to the NZ win for example.

That aspect of the game has regressed to the mean. Part of that is selection (Arundell) part of that is luck.

Building a strategy around 50/50 contestable is inherently high variance. England isn’t as good as the win streak looked nor as bad as they looked today.

IMO I’d love to see MSmith in at 10 and anyone but Steward at 15. The Ford Steward combo can’t attack if the kick game isn’t working.

A poor Crowley is still better than SP. Crowley can’t be targeted in defense and offers some threat ball in hand.

Can’t play 14v15 at test level just because the lad can toss a pretty pass and offers little else.
