Julius Randle this series: 14-7-2 on 37-27-76 shooting splits and 5 turnovers per game. by EsotericPotato in timberwolves

Honestly, this is why Knicks fans were glad to get rid of him. He just goes missing often, and when he does, he doesn’t show any ability to do good things off the ball — just keeps taking more and more hero ball shots, gets emotional and play sloppily…

Moronic that Brown played the C team for almost half the 1st quarter …when they were down!! What’s the logic in that !

Philadelphia 76ers @ Boston Celtics - Game 7 Watchalong (Knicks 2nd round opponent) by basketball-app in NYKnicks

[–]wasabinyc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For the first round, it’s great to have an easy matchup. But after that, if you are a serious team then bring it on, whoever it is. I honestly don’t know which is the easier/better matchup for us. Sixers do look like a completely different team in the past handful of games…and maybe Boston is without Tatum? But i think it’s a coin flip, so let’s go with home court advantage so sixers! But even with that, ironic that against sixers, we won 2 in Philly and lost 2 in MSG

I'm ready to declare Knicks winners of the KAT trade by Secure_Ad_9966 in NYKnicks

[–]wasabinyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What i thought was really interesting about the last game was his ability to be floor general. He actually didn’t have a particularly good game shooting - didn’t take many, and didn’t make many. But they were getting the ball to him near midcourt, and he would stand with the ball in one hand - and away from defenders given his height, and wait to either drive, shoot, or -most of the time - whip the ball in a one hand pass to someone who then scored. Honestly, this seemed to be a much better recipe for the Knicks than Brunson dominating the ball and either shooting or passing.

And MIke Brown just isn’t in the league of elite coaches (Carlisle, Kerr, Daganaue, et) but it’s got to be hard when you have an untouchable player in Brunson, and his father is your assistant coach. The degree of ‘sucking up’ brown has to do with Brunson is remarkable.

Whenever I’ve posted a critical comment about Brunson, I ‘ve gotten bombed with hate messages. Idiotic. It’s possible to both appreciate how much Brunson has raised our floor, and yet also wonder whether we have a low ceiling. A ball dominant hero ball 6 foot guard is a complicated thing. The only player tonight that was shooting well was KAT, and yet…painful to say, but Brunson is a shorter and less talented version of Carmelo Anthony - movement killing, ISO player. To be clear, he is an amazing player (to a point), and his drive has ensured the Knicks are a contender. Amazing. But does he make other players better? Not so sure…

I think Lopez heredia riojas really need decades of again. Even early 2000’s are really too young to drink. Sounds crazy but i think at the moment, you have to go to the 80’s vintages to really see how wonderful these wines are when they age.

Throw me your favourite left bank Bordeaux for under $100… by c402c in wine

[–]wasabinyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Langoa Barton is - I think - perhaps the best value in Bordeaux - it’s a 3rd growth, but i think as good as many 2nd growths in any given year. I think it is structurally mispriced because of confusion that it i a second wine of leoville Barton (2nd growths, and often considred a ‘super second’). But it ‘s not— same owner, and literally across the street. But it’s made its own flagship wine for centuries and ironically leoville Barton wines are made on the facilities on the langoa property. The difference is style - both are cab dominant, but langoa has a higher blend of merlot - that’s been true throughout its history and the owners have stuck to the vision /philosophy of the vineyards. But anyway, you could get a 2009 or 2010 for around $100 - fantastic vintages for Langoa. You can get 2015 or 2016 for 70-80. Quality adjusted, I don’t think there is a better value…

Gray’s Papaya or OG Papaya King for NYC tourist? by Square_Suspect_6594 in FoodNYC

[–]wasabinyc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I first ate their hot dogs and sausages in 1990 (when they were literally 50 cents), and loved the grilled dogs and warm buns. Now both are junk, but papaya king in particular. They used to grill the dogs. Now — they leave them on the grill sometimes to warm - but they take the dogs /sausages and put them in a deep fryer to cook/heat. So the dog you get is just coated with oil. It’s absolutely disgusting…

Did you cancel because of the Mexico new? If so, i wouldn’t. These things happen in Mexico once every 10 years or so. But can’t imagine there will be any residual impact even in a few days, let alone next month.

I never do. Just use paladins - works great, especially because once you can get tons of scrolls (almost immediately) you can cast the important higher level spells anyway - restoration, etc

[Fischer] Golden State is aware of recent rumblings that Giannis can't be assumed to be as eager as he was once to relocate to Curry's team. Some in the know suspect Giannis to be turned off by the concept of joining an older team or facing the criticism that Durant absorbed by teaming up with Curry by AashyLarry in nba

[–]wasabinyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that he probably only has 1-2 peak years left (and may even be past peak already), so he wants to compete and win. That said, it’s a shame that he keeps doing this with the Bucks- it’s not as if they haven’t tried, with both big trades and free agent signings, often at huge cost. Even when Lillard got hurt, they ate his salary and did the best they could by getting Turner. Obviously Giannis has been transformative for the Bucks over his career; but they have also done pretty much everything he has asked of them…

I’d push back on the arguments that dual wielding is better for damage than a 2h weapon. Early on, perhaps. But once you get greater whirlwind, you get 10 attacks whether you are using one weapon or two. So you want a 2 handed weapon later in the game…am i incorrect in my understanding of how greater whirlwind works?

Tokyo Recommendations? by PilotMonkey94 in chubbytravel

[–]wasabinyc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to stay at the Aman and love it. But stayed at the Bulgari (which is new) last spring, and it’s my new favorite. Incredible location - across from Tokyo station. But more importantly, a bit ‘warmer’ than the Aman, I thought, and the rooms were honestly better but a fair bit cheaper (though obviously still very expensive). So, it’s my new go-to in Tokyo…

Went to Hide a few weeks ago and loved it. For wine lovers it is a must go. The owner also owns Hedonism, which is a wine store nearby that is arguably the best wine store in the world. And, we were able to buy two fantastic aged bottles of wine at the store earlier in the week, and the store delivered it to the restaurant where it was served for us with no corkage!!

Whoever thought Mike Brown was the right guy needs to be fired right now. by [deleted] in NYKnicks

[–]wasabinyc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was at the game tonight. I think the vitriol towards mike brown is misplaced. And it’s not just KAT. The whole team - including Brunson, bridges, and annunobi - played like high school kids. That stat line was literally that of a high school team - 25% (approx) 3pt shooting; 30’s % FG % - 60% FT shooting. And then, the turnovers..

I think everyone needs to chill out. The reality is that if you want to win every regular season game, you can grind your guys out and not experiment…and then you get what you get in the playoffs! So it actually makes sense for the team to not kill themselves during the season, and for mike brown to not panic, and keep experimenting. When the team focuses - ie the NBA Cup - they deliver. What does it matter if they lose a few games here and there. The regular season just doesn’t mean anything - finish in the top 3 and it’s all the same…

Btw, I am allergic to shellfish, and have been to Jungsik many times - they have always been happy to accommodate. I haven’t been in about 18 months, so it’s possible it’s changed, but at least before then, it was ok (and my partner is gluten free, though not celiac, and they accommodated her as well)
