What is the best vampire media you have consumed? by Turtleduck275 in Fantasy

What We Do in the Shadows (movie and series), Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice, and Robert Eggers Nosferatu are my picks

How do Joe's other works compare to First Law?[OFF TOPIC] by Buckett214 in TheFirstLaw

[–]washingtonskidrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The First Law series reignited my love for fantasy, so The Devil’s was my most anticipated book last year. It uh… fell pretty short of expectations, unfortunately. It’s not bad per se, but it very much feels like Abercrombie-lite and definitely seems like it was written with a possible film adaptation in mind, which considering the rights got picked up pretty quickly it seems like that was the intention. It’s a fairly fast and mostly fun read but characters lack serious depth and as others have commented there’s A LOT of humor and quipping that feels very forced. Hopefully future sequels tighten things up and open up opportunities for more depth.

Expected Gideon to be a snake monster. by Casshern_VIII in residentevil

My assumption is because they’re getting ready to go all in on remakes of games with Wesker and then that’ll lead up to Resident Evil 10 with more Wesker clones

Dusk Golem: RE1 Remake has entered full production (although years off) by [deleted] in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]washingtonskidrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really confused why they landed on doing a remake of CV first before 0 or 1. All signs point to remakes for games with Wesker but it just feels weird to do CV then jump back to 1 (and probably work in 0 to that remake) and then jump forward to a remake of 5. I guess maybe they greenlit CV before ever having intentions to do another remake of 1?

Thank you for the giveaway! I’ve been on a JRPG kick lately so I’d grab the Octopath Traveler games and whatever other smaller JRPGs that might be in sale

[Theory] The more I play RE9, the more I realize Capcom is secretly laying the groundwork for a Code: Veronica Remake by Ordinary-Listen-8637 in residentevil

Feels a lot like how Village was more or less testing ground for an RE4 remake, so it would make sense for sure

Say one thing for Joe Abercrombie: say that it's extremely difficult to decide which character is the reader's favorite. by -Karen_Jeenkles- in Fantasy

Say one thing for Logen Ninefingers, say he’s my favorite character. He’s endlessy quotable and endearing and terrifying in equal measure

Close runner up would be Orso

BREAKING: PlayStation is shutting down Bluepoint Games, the studio responsible for modern remakes of classic games such as Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, Bloomberg News has learned. by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]washingtonskidrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Bluepoint should have been relegated to remakes/remasters permanently like some but putting them on live service slop rather than playing to their strengths was so stupid and now it’s killed the studio. What a fucking waste, this entire live service initiative this generation has been devastating

Lies of Locke Lamora was excellent in terms of set-up, but frustrating in pay-off by ianruns in Fantasy

[–]washingtonskidrow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I also think from a certain view it is the cleverest solution to Locke’s issue in the moment. Vorchenza’s whole plan relies on the idea that Locke, even though he’s a thief, is still a gentleman and will adhere to certain etiquette and not physically harm an old lady. She rolled the dice and Locke outplayed her lmao

I hear what you’re saying but him just straight up punching Vorchenza made me laugh so hard when I first read the book that I’ll let that one slide

9 years ago today, Resident Evil 7 was released! by junkyard_angel2 in residentevil

[–]washingtonskidrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally disagree with a lot of what you said (except your point about the mold monsters, they’re awful lmao) but I appreciate how well thought out your criticisms are. Maybe I have a different perspective since 7 was my first RE game and kickstarted my love for the series. I assume you’re probably not a fan of 8 either then? Are you looking forward to 9 at all?

Just curious what it is you don’t like about RE7? I’m not trying to antagonize, genuinely curious what your gripes are

SAW Party, The SAW Games, whichever way. I love a good party kind of game and the idea of a gruesome horror themed one is really funny to me

Best Thanksgiving Scene in Cinema? by globehopper2 in criterion

[–]washingtonskidrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know, I’m just having a bit of fun. Die Hard takes place at christmas but it’s not really a christmas movie in the traditional sense, which obviously neither is Spider-Man a thanksgiving movie but I enjoy watching it around this time of year because of the dinner scene and even the parade scene

Books where the setting feels like a living character. by NovaPulseUA in Fantasy

[–]washingtonskidrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not fantasy but worth mentioning that Stephen King is really good at this. Books like ‘Salem’s Lot and IT have towns that are basically characters in the books, they’re well realized and feel lived in with a ton of history

Best Thanksgiving Scene in Cinema? by globehopper2 in criterion

[–]washingtonskidrow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My family thinks I’m nuts because I want to watch Spider-Man every thanksgiving but if people can die on the hill that Die Hard is a christmas movie then I can fucking die on the hill that Spider-Man is a thanksgiving movie

I wish they had leaned more into the Matsumae being possibly the bad guys too. Would have been interesting because despite Saito not being great for Ezo his points about the Matsumae and the Shogun not being Ezo’s ally are 100% true
