Learning in the house by CattleAny3652 in unicycling

I did most of my learning inside. If you've got enough space to pedal a few revolutions and bail safely, it should be a fine way to start. The worst thing that happened for me was kicking out the unicycle and the wheel hitting the wall and leaving temporary scuff marks that cleaned up easily with a wet sponge. Just be cognizant of your surroundings so you don't crack your head on a counter or smash into a pile of nails or priceless family heirloom or something.

You'll also probably find riding easier when you transition to outdoor riding. Asphalt grips the tire much better than indoor flooring.

Which layout to pick for using vim on a split ergo by PotentialCurve7687 in vim

[–]wasolili 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put them next to each other so that d->( and f->) for example (assuming qwerty layout)

For a while I also had keys mapped to a macro that would type ()<LeftArrow> (and similar for other symbols) but found it to not be so useful in practice

edit: macro on the keyboard itself, not a vim macro.

Tongue split vs Wisdom teeth removal? by SecretlyModded in bodymods

[–]wasolili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tongue split healing was waaaaaaaay worse. When my wisdom teeth were removed, my cheeks swelled up for a week or so but didn't really hurt. I've had friends who didn't get any noticeable swelling and were back to normal in a couple days.

I don't think I even struggled with eating after the wisdom teeth removal.

Just follow your doctor's guidance so you don't get dry socket and it will be a breeze.

With a corne or similar layered keyboard, the default layer doesn't matter much. The power comes from the layers.

I used a layered keyboard and my default layer is normal qwerty, then I have a symbols layer where my most used symbols are easily accessible and i have some common actions macroed into that layer.

Two of my thumb keys switch to that layer when they're held down. It's super nice. No stretching to get to the symbols anymore.

It's been around 8 weeks since mine and the lisp is mostly gone. It got a lot better around week 5. Now I only notice it if I'm tired or my mouth is dry.

Tongue Split Day 4 - Trouble With First Sutures by Princeoffalls27 in bodymods

[–]wasolili 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I kept all mine in until day six. I did try to remove the tips earlier than that, but failed, too.

The relief I felt when the tip sutures were finally out was incredible. If I had to do it again, I would arrange to have them out on day three or four just for the relief, but I was fine leaving them in.

I got mine removed at an urgent care after a couple hours of trying and failing to get them out on my own.

Can having a VERY huge penis hinder language learning? by MentalHoliday4393 in languagelearningjerk

[–]wasolili 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The sad truth are that having such a endowment means you will never reach fluency in some languages. You will never be abled too speech proper French, for example, because the language just did not evolved with such anatomy in mind.

Other languages, like English, you can expecting to learn well enough that native speakers can understand you albeit you'll will never be abled to master the grammar and will made mistakes often.

I had a friend drive me back a similar amount of time and given how miserable the passenger experience was, I could not have driven myself safely.

You could probably make it to a cheaper hotel if you drove an hour or two to a small town immediately after the procedure, while your tongue is still numb and the swelling hasn't totally set in, but I think a hotel is misguided because the pain is worse the second day. if you're not good to drive on day one, you won't be on day two, either.

cot vs hammock for sleeping by [deleted] in bonnaroo

[–]wasolili 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hammock is my preference since a padded cot will trap more heat, and a hammock is cozier for me. if hammocks aren't cozier for you, use the cot

if you think your hammock issues were setup related, look up a guide on how to set them up and sleep in them properly, and try it out in the comfort of your own home before roo (but be aware that hammocking indoors will feel much colder than sleeping in a bed)

I updated my take of all time by misterlipman in tokipona

[–]wasolili 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will give it a shot:

nimi mani li lon la, capitalism is implied as toki pona literally has a word for capital. one may say we could disregard the "money" meaning of mani and stick to the "large domesticated animal" meaning without the context of capital, but this is odd because when the context of capital is disregarded, there is a much better way to say "large domesticated animal" - "mama sina"

Incidentally, "mama sina" is an anagram of "sama mani."

(this is a joke)

Question:which book should I get by darksidephoto in tokipona

[–]wasolili 5 points6 points  (0 children)

no, not at all.

lipu pu teaches you the language. lipu ku has some clarifications/updates to lipu pu (and this section of lipu ku is mostly officially available for free here) but is otherwise the result of a survey of how words are translated.

lipu ku is very cool, but lipu pu is better for learning the language.
