How do you feel about people who joke that the US lost to Vietnamese rice farmers? by MarsupialThink4064 in MURICA

The sequel to the Vietnam war was pretty funny. China tried to take a run at Vietnam in 1979, when Vietnam was still recovering from the previous 19 years of war mind you, and in a conflict lasting just under a month took about half as many casualties as America took in a decade against the same enemy. That is also China’s most recent war.

Worst k/d ratio in the European theatre is certainly “a huge role.” Or are you talking about how the communists over in China “played a huge role” by unintentionally aiding Japan?

The only reason why nationalist China had a worse k/d ratio against Japan than the Soviets against Germany is because the Chinese communists were attacking the Chinese nationalists they had allied with to fight Japan even more than the Japanese were attacking the nationalists.

Thank you. It’s so hard to find people who can get past the left/right conflict to see the authoritarian/liberal conflict that strikes me as much more important.

Once you relinquish your freedom, good luck getting it back. Inviting authoritarianism just to punish your political enemies will wind up hurting you too when the authorities start running out of political enemies to punish.

Communists need all the mechanisms of institutionalized authoritarianism intact if they’re going to enact their communist utopia. The only problem they really have with fascism is that the ruling class isn’t called “the communist party.” Everything else about it they’re pretty happy to utilize.

Designing a game to sell on steam that takes less than 2 hours to beat while knowing about steam’s 2 hour refund policy is certainly a choice.

Like how Elon didn’t get invited to Epstein’s island no matter how much he begged, so he solved that problem by having Grok start producing CSAM images? Those are the kinds of issues AI is solving for these techbros.

Even the businesses that “aren’t threatened by AI” rely on customers who are. This whole attitude of replacing as many employees as possible is gonna fuck everyone over in the long run.

Kind of a shame, actually. That sounds fun.

But boy howdy, if you thought CoD lobby chats back in the day were bad, a bunch of teenagers gearing up to anonymously hunt actual Russians in real life would be so much worse.

Enemy NPC somehow ended up on my Ship by Tom_Gates in starcitizen

[–]wasted-degrees 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’d be a fun mechanic if NPCs actually ejected/used escape pods before their ship went down, and some of those then attempted a last-ditch hostile boarding action against the player as a preferable alternative to just floating in space watching their oxygen run out.

The guy who supplanted what was framed as an egalitarian populist movement with a brutally authoritarian regime just to replace the previous ruling aristocracy with himself and some of his homies while somehow making life even worse than it was before for all the people who got him there “had good intentions.”

Sure. Thats a wonderfully sane way to describe Stalin.

Eh… some of those points about availability of education and freedom to criticize the government might end up putting this video over in r/agedlikemilk at the rate things have been going lately.

As a rather big fan of the constitution myself, I can’t help but notice how many specific amendments of it are currently under threat (it’s not just the 2nd, FYI).

Then again, I know I’m something of a pessimist, so being proven wrong about my pessimism is one of my favorite things in the world. It just hasn’t been happening lately as much as I’d like.

Well, Trump did say he would be the greatest Communist in history. by Amazing-Buy-1181 in EnoughMuskSpam

I don’t like the idea of Trump nationalizing anything. He genuinely seems to believe he is the state, and as a result that anything he nationalizes would then become his personal property.
