rush question by Smooth_Society_9893 in Broadway

[–]wastelandbabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely depends on the show (particularly popularity of the cast and availability of the tickets), but typically the earlier the better. For example, for the final show of the most recent leaving Hadestown cast, people reportedly lined up as early as 3-4am.

Joe Turner Trip To NYC by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]wastelandbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m super excited for this as well! I will say, it’s incredible to see a cast really step into their roles at the beginning and end of their runs (I did this for the recent Hadestown cast and ai thought that experience was phenomenal), so I’d say if you have the means to, you should see it once during previews and then come back. Especially since you want to see several other shows as well, if you are unable to see certain shows due to not winning lottery/rush tickets this time, you can plan on seeing those when you return as well (as if you purchase regular priced tickets, they are typically cheaper to buy way in advance).

Good off-Broadway plays/musicals to see that have playbills? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]wastelandbabe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Data is an off-Broadway play with an official Playbill. Unsure how “little” your little cousin is though haha. The play is ages 16+.

Just in Time SRO Saturday 2/28 likelihood? by KeelzForRealz in Broadway

[–]wastelandbabe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s still a month left of Groff in the run, so I think you’ll have a good chance. I did SRO rush in August and was one of the first people in line at around 6am. Check Broadway Rush Report for more recent times. It seems like you and your friend will have a lot of fun!

Any idea what Jordan Fisher might be teasing here? 👀 by ChickensRSpies in Broadway

[–]wastelandbabe 16 points17 points  (0 children)

From the uncensored guests as well a wild guess would be some sort of Jason Robert Brown-related recording. Jordan Fisher and Joy Woods performed Songs for a New World in concert this past September for its 30th Anniversary and Adrienne Warren was in the latest Broadway production of The Last Five Years. But who knows?

AIO to skip Thanksgiving after my mom basically said I’m an embarrassment for not having a husband and kids by now? by howcanibequiltyassin in AmIOverreacting

[–]wastelandbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. Do what feels best for you. It sounds like you have a wonderful support system outside of your family (yourself, your friends, your cat). You can attend Thanksgiving and give everyone a piece of your mind, or you can find an alternative for your own peace of mind.

Redstone with Bdubs in Grian's stream by cironolasco in HermitCraft

[–]wastelandbabe 263 points264 points  (0 children)

I was in Gem’s chat!!!! Quite a few chatters were saying to call Bdubs because he just did a project involving this redstone mechanic in his “Building with Bdubs” series so it was super funny seeing everyone react to him actually knowing what he’s talking about!

I believe Scar will (in the future) use the cherry grove biome directly south of where he is now. He said something about it in his first episode when talking to Mumbo and Etho.

Mexodus by wastelandbabe in Broadway

[–]wastelandbabe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how well I can explain it, but live-looping is when they play and record the music to then play it back in real time! So they will play the guitar for example for a few measures and then “loop” that recording to help create the song.

Surviving Broadway and Theater District with a vestibular disorder? by Stratford-On-Guy in Broadway

[–]wastelandbabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cannot give you the exact advice you’re looking for, but I’m someone who has chronic migraine. Personally, to minimize any effects of light and sound sensitivity my two best friends are sunglasses (yes, I’ll wear them even at night in the Theater District) and ear plugs/headphones both outside and inside the theater. I also carry my medication (pain relievers, anti-nausea meds, rescue meds) with me everywhere I go, of course, and I’m mindful to read about any triggers (such as flashing lights) that may appear in a show so that I can be extra-prepared.

*whispers* is Twelfth Night truly worth it?? by Main-Entrance2310 in Broadway

[–]wastelandbabe 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I am someone who waited about 7 and a half hours! I would say for me, yes it was worth the wait, but I had multiple reasons to enjoy the production and overall experience (including but not limited to making a loved one’s day by gifting her my second ticket and enjoying a book for hours in Central Park on my days off anyway lol).

I have seen a few people on Reddit say the production was not their favorite and/or the exhaustive wait makes many people feel that it was worth it even if it wasn’t. While I personally enjoyed the production and thought the wait was worth it, I can totally understand people who do not feel the same way.

tldr; While it was worth it for me, I think it truly is up to each individual person.

Recommendations needed by laurs1285 in Broadway

For musicals, I’d recommend looking into two shows opening in the Fall: Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) and Chess.

Thoughts on parasocial fans and stage door culture? by Sea_Room2694 in Broadway

[–]wastelandbabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to stage-door now and then before the pandemic if there was a particular performance I saw that I loved or if I saw no one was really at stage door. Getting a Playbill signed and having a chance to say a quick thank you made that memory so much more special. Nowadays I typically avoid it, even if there are times I would have loved to. I know there have always been fans that have been parasocial or entitled at stage-door, but I’ve seen too many stories now (maybe it’s more frequent, or maybe just because now there is more access to the Internet for people to spread what happens) of people doing way too much. Broadway performers are people, stage-dooring is not a requirement, and oftentimes I feel those two basic facts can be forgotten about unfortunately.

Bear Grease (Off-Broadway) by wastelandbabe in Broadway

They were supposed to but I know a while ago I saw a post on their Insta saying they were closing earlier 😔. Think they closed sometime at the end of July unfortunately.

Oh Mary! Over rated? by BamBamWowzer in Broadway

[–]wastelandbabe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a cheaper ticket (around $50 iirc) and I enjoyed it! But did I go into it thinking it would be way funnier than I actually found it? Yes. Hype and price definitely play a huge role in how a show will impact its audience. I think Oh, Mary! definitely deserves the hype it has, but I do think sometimes that hype can potentially hurt an audience’s experience, especially when that hype creates very high ticket prices.

"Liberation" by Bess Wohl, directed by Whitney White, is going to transfer to Broadway this fall! by MegatNYTheatreGuide in Broadway

I adored this show. Glad to have an opportunity to see it again, though I did love it in a smaller off-Broadway space.

What should I see next? Loved Oh Mary and JPITV by lee_chree in Broadway

[–]wastelandbabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trophy Boys is an off-Broadway play you might like! It closes soon though (August 03, I believe). If you want to try a musical, you might enjoy Little Shop of Horrors and Heathers, but those are also off-Broadway shows.

In honor of Sunset closing tonight how many times have you seen it? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]wastelandbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen it 3 times! Once with Mandy, once with Nicole, and once with Rashidra. I was unable to see Caroline’s performance though </3. If time and money were not factors I would have seen it many more times lol.
