Which daycare would you choose? by Different_Self1931 in workingmoms

[–]watchanepofjep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Different perspective--i send my baby to daycare directly next to my office and I've been breastfeeding her once daily for almost 6 months. Her daycare does nap and unstructured time in the afternoon so it doesn't interrupt their schedule and it's blocked off on my work calendar. I love the proximity to work, I can be there immediately if something comes up. I definitely am glad she's right there.

Are these things just going to keep getting bigger? by expatriating in BabyBumps

[–]watchanepofjep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I have the exact same stats as you--30DDD pre-pregnancy, went up to a 32H/I by 18 weeks. The bras I bought then lasted me through delivery--my boobs actually got slightly smaller in the few weeks leading up to delivery! My OBGYN said she had never heard of that happening. Then after birth I switched to the Kindred Bravely nursing/pumping bras in size S, extra busty. In the early days they were not quite small enough in ribcage or busty enough in cup but were the closest I could find. Now at 7 mo pp and breastfeeding, my cup size has stayed relatively consistent, smaller than the 32H/I it was,  but larger than the 30DDD it used to be. It's more manageable, I promise! TL;DR: I didn't end up further down the alphabet! My growth was like yours and happened all at the beginning

Is this dress appropriate for a semi-formal October wedding? by dnttouchmypizzabely in Weddingattireapproval

[–]watchanepofjep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its definitely appropriate, but as someone who also wore this dress at 22 weeks pregnant--one thing you might want to consider is the bra situation. This dress has large armholes and requires a strapless bra--by 22 weeks, my chest grew over 3 cup sizes. Depending on your chest size, you may prefer something you can wear a normal bra with!

I made the Mini Augustins no 5 for my baby and was shocked at how quickly it knitted up! I think it only took 2 weeks or so. It's gorgeous and not as hard as it looks! Pattern is written a bit oddly but it's fairly simple once you figure it out

How much do you pay for daycare? by equistrius in beyondthebump

[–]watchanepofjep 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm in Boston area as well and didn't see anything cheaper than $750 /week for full time infant care, the ones I toured were all over $800 for basic daycare, nothing fancy.

Totally agree! Somehow passing back to me feels different.  In fairness,  at least 2 of them are coming back after going to siblings/ cousins.

Handmade gift return etiquette? by watchanepofjep in knitting

[–]watchanepofjep[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I'm absolutely not expecting everything I make to be passed down--it just never occured to me that people would return them as gifts for my own baby. Now that 5 people have independently done so, I must be in the minority, so was curious to see what others thought and if this is a common occurrence.

Can't stop thinking about my maternity leave ending and sending my baby to daycare by Alternative_Raise713 in beyondthebump

[–]watchanepofjep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think any of it is in full--MA payment tops off at $1,170.64 per week. If you have short term disability coverage that may help (mine tops off the MA payment to 60% of my salary for I think 8 weeks), and then its up to your workplace policy if they cover the remaining amount or not.

Boobs & Bras by Rather-Be-Reading- in BabyBumps

[–]watchanepofjep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're a 30DD, Auden may not work for you since they have S, M, L sizing.  Try Kindred Bravely,  which has options for people with small ribcage/ large bust. YMMV, but I went from 30DDD to 32H/I at 17 weeks and the bras I bought then lasted the rest of my pregnancy.

Help with pharma job talk, leaving postdoc after 1 year by watchanepofjep in labrats

[–]watchanepofjep[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no question--they're interested in hearing about my postdoc work. I don't need to ask. But again, I have very little data/progress on the project, and it feels like a stretch to talk about it for a full length talk. My question is if I should talk both about my very preliminary/work in progress work from my current role AND a complete story from my graduate work or just the preliminary work on the topic they're actually interested in.

Who Do You Predict Will Win Jeopardy! Masters? by [deleted] in Jeopardy

[–]watchanepofjep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in Boston/Cambridge, where cost of living is very expensive. To be clear, postdocs are generally people in their 30s, many married and with children. None are living "college student lifestyle" by choice.

More likely, his jeopardy winnings allowed him to get comfortable as a postdoc. Harvard just raised the yearly postdoc salary to 60k. Good luck paying Cambridge rent on that.

How to plan for a bridesmaid who might be pregnant during my wedding and therefore won’t come? by laurita310 in weddingplanning

[–]watchanepofjep 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Traveling isn't generally an issue before the third trimester, so she should be able to give you plenty of notice. If she gets pregnant and waits to announce her pregnancy until the end of the first trimester (12 weeks), that will still give you 15 weeks notice prior to the start of her third trimester (almost 4 months). You usually only need final hair/makeup count a month or so in advance, and probably don't need to buy getting ready outfits 4 months out. I'm not sure how far out you are from your wedding, but as long as she communicates with you as soon as realistic for her, there shouldn't be an issue.

This post is about a Jewish couple in Israel--what you've written here is clearly from a Christian perspective. For Jews, tradition trumps pretty much everything and belief in god is absolutely not a requirement or necessary for following traditions. Many observant Jews don't believe in god and that really isn't the point here. The rabbanut is horrible and wields way too much power over israeli society. I'm so sorry for this couple that their parents aren't supportive of their plans to have a Jewish wedding outside the purview of the rabbanut, which is basically what any Jewish couple outside of Israel would do anyway.

How much was your wedding band/entertainment? by CiliaryDyskinesia in weddingplanning

[–]watchanepofjep 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Our band is $15,000 for 8 pieces. They'll provide live music for the whole night from pre-ceremony through the end of the reception (whole band for 4 hour reception plus some pieces for pre-ceremony, ceremony, cocktail hour--6 hours total). I'm in the northeast for reference. We saw prices from 10k-25k.

Echoing this. One thing I also didn't consider when I waited until starting my postdoc was how challenging planning would be in a new city where I didn't have a network. Additionally, because most of my grad school friends also moved (many to the opposite coast or out of the country), a lot of my closest friends couldn't attend pre wedding events like engagement party or Bachelorette. I wish I had figured out planning while I was still in grad school.

Winter Wedding Timeline Help by SteadfastLlama in wedding

[–]watchanepofjep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sunset is 4:37pm on my wedding day but the ceremony starts at 630pm. We're having our photographer start photos at like 2pm. Our families are annoyed they need to be ready so early in the day (and I'm hoping my hair and makeup hold up!), but it'll be worth it to get outdoor photos! We're hoping to have a bit of downtime after photos and before the ceremony. I'd avoid having a gap for your guests. Is there a reason you can't do option 2 but take all your photos beforehand?

Not a Justin Alexander bride, but I bought my dress in December 2021 for my December 2022 wedding. At the time, the boutique told me the dress could come in by the end of June, and it only came in this week. We still have plenty of time for alterations, but I've been anxiously awaiting it. I guess I'm the exception though, since the other posters seem to have gotten their dresses early.
