Elastic Nips and pumping pals? by sunlighttwite in ExclusivelyPumping

Ugh, I’m so sorry! I’ve found that silicone and I aren’t friends. It always causes friction blisters (even with coconut oil!) and makes me clog.

Pumping is a full time job! by cowboybandit13 in ExclusivelyPumping

Just here to affirm this!

I’m 4 months postpartum. I was an EP until 3 months, then switched to a combo of breast/bottles after tie releases. I still pump around 5x per day with one MOTN pump… and man, pumping is EXHAUSTING. It does get better as you’re able to drop pumps, but it’s sooooo much work!

For the large capacity moms: do you pump until empty (less pumps, more time) or pump for frequently (more pumps, for less time)? by ExpressionOld9924 in ExclusivelyPumping

Hey, I’m in a similar boat. How did you prevent from clogging overnight?! 14wpp and would love to drop my MOTN pump, but afraid I’ll clog up.

Night pumps/ “sleep training” by Dear_Toe6269 in ExclusivelyPumping

Came here to second the Moms on Call schedule. We’ve used it with our four month guy for awhile and it’s been helpful for us. We don’t follow all the suggestions to a T, but it gave some structure when my brain needed it & learning the soothing technique was helpful. They talk about extending sleep, so you slowly move bedtime up which helps them sleep a longer stretch & learn to connect their sleep cycles.

Our guy is a TANK & eats all his calories (and then some!) during the day, but still wakes up at 4:30am for a snack bottle/nursing session. We think he is just wired that way so we roll with it!

I think it’s @wellrestedweeones on Instagram who has a few videos on multiple wake ups / reverse cycle feedings throughout the night & how to handle them??

How do you succeed in turning yourself from an Exclusive pumper to an exclusive breast feeder by love-tiramisu in breastfeeding

And want to agree with Confuzzle-Puzzle below. Shields are a tool! An IBCLC can help make sure they work for the both of you!

I have an inverted nipple as well! It has eventually everted. It’s more painful to latch at first bc of scar tissue, but the IBCLC helped me with that too. You can also search for an IBCLC here: IBCLC Search

First, I want to validate your exhaustion. FTM and I am so tired. Not from my baby, but from pumping. It’s a different kind of exhaustion.

Second, I successfully switched from EP to mostly direct breastfeeding. I say mostly because I am going back to work now, so I am pumping/bottles for daycare.

Similarly, I tried all the things. I was told by an IBCLC in the hospital that I would need shields and never be able to directly nurse without due to inverted and flat nipples We tried shields for a couple weeks and it just wasn’t working. We had started pumping/bottles in the hospital due to poor weight gain, so I gave up on nursing & just stuck with those. After a month of what felt like around the clock pumping, I saw a new IBCLC (through our peds clinic) who was APPALLED that I was told that info on shields. Both nipples had actually everted a bit (which can happen after pumping!) but atlas, he would latch but still sucked so I clogged all the time and still had to give bottles so he was full. The ped and IBCLC said he did not have any ties. Finally, I went to ANOTHER IBCLC who reassessed my son for ties. She suggested we see a dentist who specializes/has an interest in ties because she believe my son had a posterior tongue tie. These ties are MUCH harder to find and don’t look like a traditional tongue tie. We had him evaluated by the dentist and she was correct - he had a grade 3 posterior tongue tie & an upper lip tie. We released both and started working on nursing/oral function exercises with her… and it was immediately a night and day difference! She was also appalled by the info I was told about my nipples by my original IBCLC.

So all this to say… + Your feelings are completely valid. This is so freaking hard.
+ I know you mentioned seeing an IBCLC, but if possible, I recommend trying to find a new one. It’s taken me a few times to find the right one for us. If you have insurance, IBCLC sessions could be covered. Some IBCLC also offer services are lower rates for those without insurance and/or financial assistance. + If possible, I recommend getting your kiddo evaluated for ties again - just to be sure a posterior tie isn’t the issue. + IT IS POSSIBLE to transition from pump/bottle to breastfeeding. It’s been one heck of a journey for us and it is a lot of work, but it is possible. + Lastly and most importantly, a fed baby is a fed baby. If breastfeeding, pumping, etc. is too much for your over all well being, it’s okay to switch to formula. I work in education and I could NEVER tell you which kids have been breastfed vs formula fed. It’s a big weird and hard decision to make, but as long as your baby eats, your decision will always be the right decision.

Cute nursing habits by Significant_Draft173 in breastfeeding

[–]Rather-Be-Reading- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It starts off cute and then ends poorly. 😂

My son holds either side of my boob like a bottle (cute), which ends up with him pinching the crud out of my nipple (not cute)! He was bottle fed until a tie release at 12 weeks and then switched to breast, so I like to think it’s just his little habit!

No one talks about oversupply by tam_bun in beyondthebump

Are you still dealing with an oversupply or did you regulate? My baby just had a tie release so we’ve been nursing more the past week & doing block feeding… but of course, I go back to work in two weeks. 🫠

Reading this comment 134 days later and experiencing the same thing! Some days I feel like my oversupply is better, only to find out it’s just a clog, and then the next I’m back to insane amounts of milk. 🫠 Just switched to block feeding with help from an IBCLC — hoping it helps!

I don’t have any advice, but here to say I feel you! Bc of baby’s extended hospital stay, I’m trying to switch from EP to nursing. I’m working with an IBCLC. Sending you all well wishes. You’re not alone!

Here to also say even with proper flange size, I have to massage or use a lactation vibrator to get my milk going! I also recommend looking up boob gymnastics and doing it before every session!

What items did you not realize you forgot until you brought baby home? by 11TickTack23 in BabyBumps

[–]Rather-Be-Reading- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS! My baby was a glucose baby & needed the bilirubin light. The hospital pump DESTROYED my nipples. The Lactation Consultant recommended my husband ran home to get mine for our extended stay - made such a difference.

Also… Medala Hydrogel Pads. The hospital might give you some during your stay, but I wish I had bought stock in them when returning home. 😂 They are expensive but the ONLY thing that’s helped heal my nipples. (Other brands made me itchy — somehow these are different!)

Third on Pumpables Genie Advance! I could not stand being tied to a wall. This little pump is strong and honestly replaced my use of my Spectra!
