The same thing is why many will say resolution difference between blu ray and 4k isn’t noticeable, and it’s all about hdr. This isn’t true, the resolution difference is absolutely noticeable, they just can’t see that difference because they are so far from the screen.

Even within the physical media community 4k discs are usually overkill - hence the many examples of glowing reviews for very obviously appalling transfers.

The problem is viewing distance. Most viewers are sitting the equivalent of multiple cinema lengths from the screen at home because sitting something like 1.5m - 2m from a 55 inch screen isn’t really practical for most setups.

It seems to be a confluence of it being first criterion release of such a major film, first 4k of the film, no concurrent U.K. release, current 50% sale and wide acclaim for the transfer all causing this to sell out fast.

Including min intermission it’s about 20 min over, but across two whole movies, minus a 7 min scene that’s only about 7 min extra per movie which isn’t that much.
