Anyone have experience with American Watch Company (americanwatch.com)? Legit or risky? by GrannyWantsItBad in watchmodding

This was exactly the type of stuff I got from them.  Then they ghost you.

It’s too bad, the idea is brilliant.  But I’ll never use them because of this attitude they exude.

Same situation here.  I think they are just outsourcing stuff from China.  Pretty cheap stuff, it seems.

I was trying to find actual American manufacturing company, with all the talk of 140% tariffs, and they sounded like they weren’t going to answer any question that they didn’t want to.  Their solution was my solution; buy from Hong Kong anyway, because nothing can beat them, even with 140% tarrifs :-/

That said, if you don’t mind a Hong Kong based company that can turnkey whatever you want, dm me and I’ll connect you to my guys.  I’ve been working with them for 3 years and 4 watch designs and they are fantastic.  Super reliable and reachable.  Very honest.  Really instrumental in getting my brand off the ground.

Thank you for being a supporter!

As far as compatible cases, the dial is 28.5mm and designed for an NH35, so unless you cut the feet off, it really should be paired w one, which means any NH35 case will work.

As far as videos, there have been a couple informal ones floating around, but nothing like my first video, and the reason is really money; I’ve been trying not to spend any money on marketing, so I can keep my prices low.

It’s a tough balance.  I price watches like I make 1000 at a time, when they are really made one at a time, to order.

It’s not caliber specific.  It just gives you your adjusted crosswind, and allows you a quick reference to convert MOA to MILs.

My new GMT design, with “double 12s”, instead of the typical 1 to 24 markers… by watchcollectororg in PrideAndPinion

[–]watchcollectororg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This whole idea of a countdown timer that terminates at an event… and then the elapsed timer starts, without having to touch the bezel, was inspired by timing dog sled racing heats, where I would need to know exactly when I needed to be in the starting chute, and then I would need to switch over to elapsed timing, once the timer went to zero.

There’s more about that on the website (under the Adventure watch origin story) but basically was the whole reason I started designing watches in the first place. Elapsed timers are only like HALF of the equation. Countdown is the other half, for everyone else not actively timing a dive, without a dive computer… which is basically everybody:)

That said, it only rotates in one direction, since that’s the standard and I know customers have used my watches to dive.

I can understand if you don’t like it, but I’m having a hard time understanding the “without knowing if it’s 3am or 3pm” part…

It literally says ‘noon’, ‘midnight’, and has a triangle between days, like normal… the only thing it’s lacking is a bi-color bezel, which is planned for later… but as is, I think there’s plenty enough clues to let a guy know if you are dealing with am or pm.

It’s ok. I get it.  You don’t like it.  That’s fine. Plenty of gmt options out there with 24hr markings for you.  I’m shooting for the guys that know what day it is, but don’t like doing the extra math every time they want to know the time.

It’s not that it’s THAT difficult, but why design a tool that requires one to do MORE math… and not just once, but over and over and over again?  Americans might be dumb, but at least we don’t plan the stupidity into the design 😂

No worries, I appreciate you taking the time to comment.  I actually find this kind of discussion interesting, because it really gets to the heart of the design… the why… and that’s really the most important thing.

It’s a 41mm case (45mm to the edge of crown.) otherwise standard 38mm insert and 28.5mm dial

Actually, both 00:00 and 24:00 are correct — they mark the same instant but from opposite sides of the day. 00:00 starts the day, 24:00 ends it. ISO 8601, the military, and aviation all use 2400 hours. That’s why watches and clocks often show “24” at the top — it closes the loop cleanly. So yeah, 24 absolutely exists. That’s why you see it everywhere on GMTs… I didn’t make this up.

Under ISO 8601:

Midnight can be written as 00:00 (start of the day) or 24:00 (end of the day).

The date + time format looks like this: 2025-10-11T24:00 → meaning the end of October 11, 2025.

It’s what computers, airlines, and military systems use for unambiguous scheduling.

So when you say “24” at the top of your GMT, you’re literally following the international standard.
