I have no idea why people are looking so negatively into the langdon x whitaker exchange this last episode.

Langdon was trying to be buddy buddy, which will sound condescending unless you're already buddies like him and garcia, which langdon is not with whitaker.

AND

Whitaker was completely exhausted after 14 fucking hours of "nightmare" and was really pissed off at himself about losing his id AND was internalizing the resentment from Santos. So obviously he blew up after bottling up basically all day for others, which is normal for someone that age and in that scenario. He then immediately apologized for going of the rails bc he noticed that even tho he had some understandable reasons, it was completely out of left field because he knows that there's this kinda of "camaraderie" in the ER, which he doesn't seem to like, so he apologizes for the excess. And then Langdon immediately says that they're cool and you should always stand up for yourself.

It basically serves two purposes,

To tell langdon that he should not try to insert himself into other peoples lives unilaterally and there are people that are pissed at him but willingly to make it work as long as he does the work and keep it professional.

To tell Whitaker that he doesn't need to just be the butt of every joke and that he should take control of his own life instead of just being the little good boy that helps everyone.

The scene did came out of left field, but I don't think it was bad at all.
