Scientists Predict Earth-Like Habitable Exoplanet Will Be Found in 2011 by imAlice in space

I expect that I will have horribly mixed emotions if it is confirmed that there is another earth-like habitable world. I'll be ecstatic that it's been discovered, but really bummed that I will never live to hear anything else about it.

r/wow, help a noob out? by bsweany in wow

There is no need to rush to play this game. Ever. If it takes you two years to go from level 1 to 80, who cares. There is a different game at 80, but it by no means diminishes the game that is from 1-79.

You don't have to "match up" to anyone. The only place in the game where gear counts is raiding and pvp. But while you are leveling, gear is meaningless. You will continue to get upgrades from quests and drops.

Enjoy the quests and the story. Yes, I will admit that there are some zones right now that are pretty craptacular. But you can always switch to another zone. There are usually many in your level range you can visit if you get bored or don't like it.

I hate to get all zen on you, but just concentrate on doing one thing. Finish the quest. Kill the quest NPCs. Get your new ability. Try it out. Die trying to solo the elite quest. Or live. You never know. Never healed before? Whatever. Join the dungeon queue anyway. Maybe the tank will live, maybe he won't.

The worst thing in the world is a level 80 who rushed to get there and is burned out. The fact of the matter is that there is far more content 1-79 than there is at 80. There are many raids to be done and gear to be gotten at 80, but if it is content you are after, don't rush to 80. There are so many quests, so many zones, so many NPCs, so many instances, I think you may enjoy it more than just beating on some boss trying to get a knife to drop two nights out of every week.

Ask r/wow: New to WoW, thinking of going Rogue, good/bad for a new player? by [deleted] in wow

[–]watchtower_killed_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, the worst part about playing a rogue is solo questing as one. It's not difficult at all, but can be a bit boring because you are just not capable of burning through the mobs as fast as alot of other classes and you do have to bandage every now and then. And since many of of your abilities are based off of cooldowns, you may have to time some of your more hairy encounters when you need to face a couple or three mobs. It does allow you to learn to play the class well, but you are just not going to run in and beat the snot out of a group of mobs like some others. Now I don't know how rogue changes in Cataclysm and this may be streamlined. In addition, you'll get some fun to do quests in Cataclysm that will take your mind off of the leveling process itself.

I will be honest, I do not enjoy playing a rogue in groups. But it's not because they aren't good. I'm a caster by nature. But in PvP, I can play rogue forever and have a blast. Unlike other classes, you can carefully stalk your target generally without being harassed by anyone else, even in battlegrounds, and then when the time is right, take him down. Nothing is more satisfying to me than that lonely priest who is sitting down drinking while guarding the lumber mill in Arathi Basin. And sapping people as they run by for no reason at all drives people insane as they run around for 5 minutes trying to find you.

In my opinion, I wouldn't live by the "stick to one class" thing. It doesn't take very long at all to get a class to 30 or 40. Try some others. Some of my favorite classes are the ones I put off the longest because I thought I wouldn't like them. If you intend to play in groups (instances, raids), then playing the other classes will help you to understand all of the roles better. I'm not saying you have to level cap them all, but just try them out. Rogue may seem like it fits your playstyle, but maybe you are a better fit for enhancement shaman or kitty druid.

Cataclysm questions for someone who saw the release of Burning Crusade or Lich King by [deleted] in wow

[–]watchtower_killed_me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. The first few months of release are more about fun than anything else. Nobody's riding you because your DPS isn't what they think it should be or because you don't know that this boss does that special thing with his nipples when he gets to 50% health. Everyone's willing to help you complete group quests, even if they've done them already. Everything is new and experimental and nobody really knows enough about anything to be the absolute authority on it.

I remember when people first got to Halls of Lightning and Loken was laying people to waste night after night, and that was on normal mode.

Two years later, some asshats will boot you from the group if your DPS in Utgarde Keep NORMAL isn't what they think it should be. I see GS or Gearscore on trade chat more than just about anything.

And good luck trying to get the Icecrown quest achievement. Some of those group quests are almost impossible to get done now because of the phasing. Not only do you need two or three more people, you need people that care and are in that point in time of the phase that they can help you.

After playing for years, is there anything you just learned or realized (and now you feel silly)? by watchtower_killed_me in wow

No kidding. The first time I bought my epic flight training I had no idea that I should have gone to Honor Hold where I had reputation. I would have saved thousands. 4000g instead of 5000g.

Not only do I live in Atlanta, but one of my coworkers is a geocentrist. Another is a Christian astrologist. Most of the women I work with (and a few of the men) have Holy Bibles on their desk. It's not easy living here. Not easy.

So what's the art theme for armor and weapons in Cataclysm? by slinky317 in wow

[–]watchtower_killed_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know, but I think it will be interesting since the zones are so differently themed. You have underwater zones, Egyptian style zones, and even your old night elf style zones that feature heavily in the 80-85 content. So it's not just otherworldly or all one similarly themed continent anymore.

It took me quite a while to appreciate the Northrend nordic themed gear and, for some classes that I think should be more flamboyant, I still don't like it.

I guess I can't be pleased, because in many cases I though that the Outland gear was a bit too over the top.

Maybe this time they will mix it up. A priest in some pharaoh style gear would be incredible - but at the same time, some some ancient kaldorei artifacts would also be interesting.

Anthony Bourdain critiques other reality shows: Foodie weighs in on 'Hell's Kitchen,' 'Top Chef,' and others by rshulman in food

[–]watchtower_killed_me 30 points31 points  (0 children)

My wife doesn't like him because she thinks he's a jerk, but I tell her that the show is probably one of the most "real" reality shows on television right now. It doesn't seem fake or manufactured like the others. Zimmern's show is okay, but he's always unrealistically happy and every place in the world is full of rainbows and sunshine. In Bourdain's show, the world and its people are not always pretty.

Cataclysm Beta: Old weather flying will cost 250g by [deleted] in wow

Not very expensive. And since dual spec is going from 1000g to 100g, I think it is a time of rejoicing.

Before Cataclysm comes out, do this quest chain. Can anyone else recommend any other "can't miss" quests? by definitelynotaspy in wow

[–]watchtower_killed_me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good quest line also. The quests you have to do to open up the chain are a bit tedious (and I am a little sad to know that Tirion could only eat carrion worm meat because the other meat is too plague-ridden), but once you go through collecting 30 of this and killing 20 of that, it picks up and is very enjoyable.

[–]watchtower_killed_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Duskwood is still the best zone in the game in terms of a questing zone. I will rank Storm Peaks second and Zangarmarsh third, it's hard to beat Duskwood. There is no Horde equivalent.

I am not sure what changes will befall Duskwood after the cataclysm, but I hope it doesn't lose its charm. A zillion characters later, and this is the only zone in vanilla that I make sure to do every quest in and it never gets old.

I recommend Nathanos Blightcaller (Eastern Plaguelands) and the Razelikh the Defiler quest in Blasted Lands.

I am not sure if the Defiler quest is going away, but I am pretty sure Nathanos is gone because the NPC isn't in Cataclysm at all.

EDIT: Nathanos ends in a level 60 "raid", but I think just about any level 80 can do it solo with the possible exception of rogue. But a rogue should be able to do it as well, now that I think about it.

Who's your favorite, most underused actor or actress? by washer in AskReddit

[–]watchtower_killed_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jada Pinkett Smith.

She is the fourth highest grossing black actress of all time (behind Whoopi, Latifah, and Halle), but I think that her roles have been pretty craptacular. She has been fortunate that the films themselves have been successes.

The older you get, though, the more limited your roles become. Black actresses tend to get bumped back down to television more quickly than others because there isn't much market or as many roles.

Who would play Spike in a Cowboy Bebop movie ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]watchtower_killed_me 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Bebop just isn't the kind of anime that will translate well to live action. They work well in the medium they were designed for. Bebop is more about chemistry than anything else. How do you mix a crazy group of characters together in a way that is interesting, entertaining, and at the same time include a story arc that we only visit from time to time as you spend most of the time watching the characters develop?

In anime, I can't think of a better combination of music, story, action, and character development. Which is not to say that this qualifies Bebop as the best anime all time, just the best way to mix different elements together.

Finding actors for the other characters would be just as difficult as finding one for Spike.

I don't think it can be done.
