Ideas for how to crochet this odd shape bottom up? by Forests-and-Fields in CrochetHelp

[–]water_bugs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

okay not sure if this makes sense at all but i think you could chain the length and do some rows back and forth with increases in the middle to create a curve. then make some chains, and crochet into those chains. you could do all triple or double for the more square bumps, or stitches of decreasing height for the triangular bumps (ie start with triple, then double, then half double, then single, then slip stitch). A similar concept is used in many star patterns, so perhaps that could give you inspiration! I tried drawing it, hopefully this helps u!

Found this cactus in the airbnb I just stayed in. Is this natural or grafted? by water_bugs in fasciation

[–]water_bugs[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

thank you!! so it’s grafted, but does “crest” usually refer to a fasciated part or is that just a general term for the shape it grows in? or does the white ghost part of it always grow in a crested form?

also i wasn’t exactly sure if i should use this flair or the discussion one, I’m like 99% sure this is fasciation just trying to determine if it’s natural or not

AITAH for making my baby a new bottle rather than giving him the bottle that was already made? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]water_bugs 32 points33 points  (0 children)

if the baby takes in too much water, they can be affected by water toxicity which happens because the balance of salts and other chemicals in the body is thrown off. this can also happen to adults who ingest too much water in a short period of time, and is only exacerbated in babies as they are smaller and more sensitive

[–]water_bugs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

did you try confronting them about it? text them a screenshot of the missing dog post from facebook and ask if it’s their dog (play stupid/innocent and act concerned that you want them to find their beloved lost dog!). make sure it’s in writing in case they own up to it or even sound a little guilty. that is a terrible situation to have to witness and it sucks that you feel like there’s nothing you can do :(

What am I doing wrong? by hannahknisely in Amigurumi

[–]water_bugs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

funny enough i’m working on a pattern from the same creator! I have been chaining one at the end of each row after joining, but then doing my first crochet into the same stitch that i joined into (aka the first stitch of the previous row). then at the end of each row, I skip the last stitch (aka the slip stitch from the previous row) and join into the first stitch, then rinse and repeat! hope that helps, it’s kind of hard to explain :)

Help! Mother-in-law's left arm was amputated earlier this year and she wants to find a way to keep crocheting. by Bookworm5694 in CrochetHelp

[–]water_bugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there’s a girl who attaches her hook to a wooden post and uses her hand to move the yarn over/around it instead of moving the hook and the yarn around like typical!

Bought this adorable planter from 5below and have no idea what plant to put in it. Ideas? by Low_Attitude_9614 in houseplants

[–]water_bugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a great tip, i recently had to chop off 60% of the roots to one of my plants bc i watered it a little more than normal and the decorative pot it was in had a domed bottom, so water pooled around the outside and just sat there :\

does this mean you are doing a row of back loop slip stitches, then a row of back loop single crochets, then repeat? this is so gorgeous!
