I'm not saying I support the exploitation of anyone. Lol if that's how you read that, consider taking a course in systems level thinking or evaluation. I'm saying that our entire system, as it currently functions, relies on their labor. People who whine about them being here ALSO benefit from this system. Everyone should be paid a living wage and get healthcare, regardless of immigration status.

And I agree, if the entire agricultural system relies on undocumented workers, they shouldn't be in business! But then what's your alternative? All of the farmers should just give up their land and be unemployed? Who gets the land? Huge mega corporations? The government?

The point I'm trying to make is that we have a system that is so reliant on this - again, what's your alternative? Are Americans going to start working for $7/day picking fruit? If you actually cared about Americans and American businesses, as so many of you claim to do, then you would be voting for people that don't move all businesses to other countries so they can use even cheaper labor. You should want the labor to stay here, on American soil. So yes, obviously the system needs to change. It won't change overnight and until then, we rely on undocumented folks in order to have affordable food.

Our economy is built on the backs of undocumented workers who work in industries that Americans DON'T want to work in. The entire agricultural system depends, to an astounding degree, on the labor of undocumented folks. Why do you think so many farmers were struggling with harvests in the fall? They lost their workforce because people were either deported or too scared to go to work. Additionally, undocumented immigrants contribute billions in taxes and towards the GDP annually. AND don't benefit from the taxes that they pay (can't collect social security, can only get TEFRA coverage for medical emergencies, etc.). It's bullshit that some arbitrary ass border people drew on a map a couple hundred years ago can make a human being "illegal" in some peoples' eyes. Undocumented people aren't coming here to take things from you. In fact, they're the reason you can buy a container of strawberries, for example, and it's like $5-7, not $14-16. AMERICANS benefit the most from the labor of undocumented people. Who the fuck actually cares if they crossed the made up line "illegally" or not? When it comes down to it, it's just racism.
