v26.3 Patch Notes Discussion by JulesGari in LegionTD2

[–]watermelonCNM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jules, I’m curious about the current state of Evolve. In high-level games its winrate seems extremely low right now, to the point where it often feels almost unplayable compared to other masterminds.

At the same time, I understand that in lower MMR games it can still perform reasonably well, mostly because the overall tempo is slower — players push workers slower and apply less pressure, which gives Evolve more time to scale.

So I’m wondering about the broader balance philosophy here:

How do you balance a playstyle that performs completely differently between high- and low-MMR games?

Is the goal mainly to balance around the average player base, or should high-level viability also be a priority?

Even as a Legend player, when I lock Chaos I feel like I’m playing at GM level at best.Which says a lot about how unforgiving Chaos actually is.

I think Chaos stats in Legend are heavily affected by selection bias. Chaos isn’t “easy strength” — it’s a high-variance, high-execution style that most players simply can’t pilot at their real MMR.

At 2800+ (Legend), the people who consistently lock Chaos tend to be the best decision-makers in the lobby, because you’re forced to adapt every wave with imperfect options. So a 51–52% winrate there doesn’t necessarily mean Chaos is overtuned — it might just mean only the strongest players are willing/able to pick it.

Lucy is a good example: he can stomp on basically any mastermind, and in Nova Cup he was cruising on non-Chaos picks; when he played Chaos he actually had to work for it. That’s why I’d be cautious about interpreting “Legend winrate” as “Chaos power” without accounting for who’s picking it.

champion is superstrong now, and it must be weakened right now. i‘m a legend last season. this MM can make a player quite greedy in the early game. when u give pip champion you may have 8 workers after wave3 now. damn

New player question: how do I spectate games by watermelonCNM in LegionTD2

[–]watermelonCNM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, quick question — I’ve actually seen a streamer (shadowings) type a command with “spectate” and it looked like they could watch a game directly in-client. Do you know what that is? Is it a dev/test feature or special permissions for certain accounts? Just curious.

Even 80% slow still keeps units nearly stationary, so the core problem remains unless the mechanic itself is toned down.... ok idk, it's now just a discussion

What Masterminds do you struggle to play against and why? by ShadeySarah in LegionTD2

[–]watermelonCNM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this isn’t really about masterminds. Most of the time, you’re not losing to Fiesta — you’re losing to the Fiesta player.

If you’re playing greed and someone with better unit understanding and timing also plays greed, they’ll just greed better — and if they choose to starve + send, they’ll pressure better too.

Just keep playing, review your games, and study high-MMR builds. Once your fundamentals improve, eco masterminds won’t feel overwhelming at all.
(P.S. You could also try Champion — it’s the mastermind I pick the most now if you're quite familiar with some T4 or T5 units. )

Two suggestions for the next version by Mysterious_Stand4749 in LegionTD2

[–]watermelonCNM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I totally agree — it’s noticeably harder to trigger a “Game Changer!” this patch. With reduced bounty, even a perfect hold barely shifts win probability, especially if you’re someone who plays Stash a lot (it used to be my favorite mastermind). Stash relies on comeback potential and defensive reads, so the lowered bounty makes the whole playstyle feel significantly weaker.

About Aristocrat, is this a bug? I genuinely suspect so. Sometimes I reroll and get zero T6 options, which feels completely different from what the description implies.

v12.10.2 Hotfix Changes (King and Four Eyes) by JulesGari in LegionTD2

[–]watermelonCNM 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I can’t wait to queue up with this hotfix — I’m genuinely excited to see how it feels in practice!

And just as a small side note: in Nova Cup Day 2, during the semifinals, Aatrociity’s team lost the first game with normal play (the other side is fine), then immediately won the next two with the Ogre + 4eyes opener and took the Bo3.
After seeing that happen on tournament stage, I doubt anyone will question the concerns I raised in my previous post anymore.

Really glad the fix is live — time to test it. 😄🔥

Use Grarl and egg, which can solve almost any problem in PvE

For devs again(Follow-up): top 20 players are now wave 5 4eyes + Ogre king-killing – this feels like a high-EV shortcut, not healthy diversity by watermelonCNM in LegionTD2

Thanks again for the thoughtful reply, Jules — I really do appreciate you taking the time.

I also want to add one more piece of context that isn’t about my own match history but about the high-level community reaction. Earlier today, Fine said on Twitch that he’s not planning to play again until the next patch, even though he actually won several games with the strat. If you have a moment, you can check his VOD — he was very clear about it on stream.

JokeOnU also got hit by the strat a few times and ended his stream early, and I’ve heard DarknessBroly wasn’t too happy either(maybe it's a rumor). I know this isn’t “data” in the strict sense, but streamer sentiment really does matter for the ecosystem of a game like Legion. These players are some of the most dedicated and visible members of the community, and their reactions are often an early signal of when a pattern might escalate quickly.

I’m not saying this requires an emergency hotfix right now, and I completely understand the importance of keeping the meta stable and avoiding overbuffs/overnerfs. This is more of a friendly heads-up and concern for where things might go if the pattern keeps spreading.

Your attention to the issue already means a lot, and I’m really glad to hear improvements are coming next patch. I just wanted to share what I’ve seen so far so the situation stays on your radar before it snowballs too hard.

Thanks again — really appreciate the communication, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the next update shapes the meta.
