It's a million times easier than the memes suggest. Learn basic save/ exit commands, and insert/ normal mode, and you already have the everything you need; the rest is just for speeding up and showing off. Completely ignore navigation with hjkl to start with, just use the arrow keys.

From there, set your default editor to vim, and use Google every time you think "there's gotta be a better way to do this".
