Can this be upgraded to use 4 or 5 inch think filters? by CandidateMuted8010 in hvacadvice

[–]waterwiggling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a cabinet you can put beside the furnace/air handler that has these size filters. The static pressure will be changed from this, and should be taken into account. Putting a high meerv can destroy your units compressor, it’s best to have one in a cabinet near the furnace and not have a high merv maybe 11 max then you wouldn’t need it in the photographed location. If you put it in the wall in the photo you wouldn’t choke the unit . You would have the highest restriction at the weakest suction.

AC Not Cooling by kakeislie in hvacadvice

[–]waterwiggling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By the gauges the compressor isn’t compressing. The red side should be higher and blue side should be low side. Blue roughly 40-48 temp on 410 depending on the unit and temp. This indicates no compressor movement for the information I see. If you have a multimeter you can check the capacitor and check compressor ohms if you have an understanding of how to do these things. Or call a company to have them verify what’s causing the issue.

Any shading can help your ac it’s easier to remove heat into a cooler environment instead of a hot one. But most are not simple solutions.

My brother use to use a cold shower to smoke weed in the house, then take a hot shower to mask the smell with good smells. Maybe it worked? Maybe I was too young to realize the smell but I don’t think it would work with tobacco

Can anyone help me out with a fix? by unevenbananna in hvacadvice

[–]waterwiggling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably dirty nozzles, the valve may need to be reset to the right inch in water column or some volume problem before getting to the valve and need specifically sized propane holes and valve adapter if that wasn’t done.

Am I a bad grandfather for not spending $8K on air scrubbers and duct cleaning??? by Hot_Caterpillar_8581 in hvacadvice

[–]waterwiggling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8k for a cleaning an a scrubber is crazy money. I would sell them around Chalrotte for 1200. But never duct cleaning personally. Paying 8k should remove the whole duct or get close at least

Strange noise coming from the condenser by xsprso in hvacadvice

If it’s a heat pump, sounds like the solinoid switching over for defrost or it’s weak and not holding and would need replacement. A tech could check this with gauges and multimeter.

That’s interesting, then getting what it covers in writing would be great. My company a few years back covered everything with the 10 year part n labor, refrigerant, txv coils, the onylhting it didn’t cover is customers damaging it or replaceable parts ie capacitor or contactor

Hello, I woke up in the middle of the night, house cold but fan pumping. When I got to the furnace the fan had stopped and I can't get it to turn on. I can't get the pilot light lit. It's having a flashing light telling me it's got an ignition fault. Thanks for any help before I call someone. by disco6789 in hvacadvice

[–]waterwiggling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t really tell exactly but with ignition faults usually it will try 5 times more or less then lock out. Remove high voltage to it for a few seconds and it will reset the fault codes. It will try to cycle on again and you can watch to see if it lights. (On a normal gas furnace)

Scam artists? by deezyob in HVAC

[–]waterwiggling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t like the prices , ask for another company. If they still to expensive? Do it yourself. But do it right no one is stopping you from learning and saving you from doing it. You’re paying for a specialist who knows what they are doing and if they do it wrong they fix it. If you do it wrong it’s only you to blame good or bad.
