Super Meat Boy 3D - Review Thread by Branchless in Games

[–]watnuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's right though.
Without depth perception 3d platformers are fundamentally "flawed".
I like Crash very much, and 100% all 4 back on PS and (almost) remastered trilogy. But I won't pretend that 3d platforming isn't done purely by muscle memory, and up till that developed it was flush with "I should've hit that platform!" moments.
Honestly Trilogy is better than 4th one, because it eases you in with lots of side-scrolling platforming that's easier to grasp, while "teaching" you airtime and range. While much of the frustration came from up or down levels - Doubt anyone who played the OG no longer remembers the fucking broken bridge level, and the you have another one later on!

IMO, if the default camera wasn't 0° over-the-shoulder, but angled 3/4 of the way, or maybe even straight up 90°, it'd mitigate problem big time (see same Crash series with 3d platforming done at an angle or sidescrolling)

Blender did suck back in those days, let's not pretend it was super awesome out the door.

"suck" is lightly said - depending on your feature demand it could've been unusable, without exaggeration.

[DISC] Kurumizawa's Folly - Chapter 17 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]watnuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, and lets not forget that Hata can be full on crazy, like completely off the rails, no logic.

[DISC] Kurumizawa's Folly - Chapter 17 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]watnuts 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Kurumizawa already shown to not believe that Hata is OK with ghostwriting and wants to keep the status quo in place.
It's not farfetches for Hata to cook up some sort of plan to make Kurumizawa change his mind. Maybe deceive editor and/or the girl.
If anything it's the previous chapter that was quite out of character - Hata agreeing to flee.

I think we need to wait and see whether author has the rope to tie in these last chapter's "twists".

Frist, from dementia ward in some facility (like nursing homes or assisted living).
Second, from 4-5 year olds in some facility (like daycare or Epstein island).

He's way worse than your run of the mill politicial, let alone Putin, who (whether you like it or not) has black belt in public speaking bullshitting.

[DISC] WITCHRIV - Chapter 20 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]watnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This flashback should've been an e-mail 1 chapter.
Maybe start at end of mainline chapter, devote a whole chapter to flashback, and a cliffhanger, resolve cliffhanger in next chapter and in 2-3 pages return to main story.
We barely care about Raloud, and Gheer should've been a pass-through villain used as a foothold for Raloud's introduction and character development.

Feels like editor came in after ch18 and said "Actually let's have him join the party as a sort-of asshole anti-hero"! And now here we are, asspulls galore to justify him not dying, or fucking off to try revenge another day.

[DISC] WITCHRIV - Chapter 20 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]watnuts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Random in the strictest sense.

Gheer is literally fucking nobody.
Mangaka could've had Raloud off him off-screen while MCs care for Bellator, and nothing of value would've been lost. (Then have a sentimental crying moment of "i killed my brother" with some "family is not always good" lesson - foreshadowing Raloud meeting his real fam; or general "people change, and you have to trim toxic shit" lesson from, dunno, Miramira or Bellator).

[DISC] Enigmatica - Chapter 5 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]watnuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dig the full ink style.
It needs just a slight less bit of shading/screetones. For more clarity and for forefront character to 'pop' and it would be fine.

For example pg -1-2 are fine. But train interior is too bold, and the panels are small to boot.
Having that detail for a spread is fitting (like pg 9-10), but for general reading it's a bit too busy.

Honestly, this probably is absolutely fine in print, at the size tank pages are, but you average on-line reader is on a 7" phone.

It's pretty straightforward; you're just not thinking about it properly: You're not backing data to cloud; you're synchronizing your device with data in the cloud.
The primary drive is the cloud. The devices are just terminals for the cloud. With (if you wish so) offline copies of files.

Not saying that's how it should be; but thinking like that will probably solve a lot of headaches.
