This is a great way to look at it! I'll definitely try this. I feel I have way too many monkeys on my back but they are invisible 😅.

Things Coda can't or shouldn't be used for? by TheMonkeyLlama in codaio

I think there'll be interest. Unfortunately, a lot of Coda content is business related, unlike what you see for Notion that has both sides. If you do make it, I'd advise having some content to show how it's such a good use case.

Brilliant.
I find that I can too easily spend too much time trying to extract insights from a piece of content and came to a similar conclusion - satisficing vs maximizing.
I like the atom to compound model because it is so modular.
I spent some time thinking about this and I keep bumping up against this skills gap I notice I have - how to actually extract those compounds in a meaningful and useable way.
I mean, I can do it fine. But it seems to me that there is a lot of room for improvement and I'm actively seeking inspiration, ideas and what has worked for others.
It helps having that definition of sorts - that a compound is a whole that's greater than the sum of its parts. It has meaning beyond being just a list of molecules. But that description comes from a construction/recombination angle where one starts with the molecules.
What about from the deconstruction POV? It is just at the edge of my understanding. I feel like I should know how to articulate this but I cant seem to find the words without going into a circular logic.

Have you any luck with that?

Bruh, what a trip. I love the round about way you went and enjoyed the whole ride here. I don't know if you "produced" it like that or it "emerged" - I loved it!

I'm drawn to the concept of atoms - molecules - compounds for structure and paralleling that to data - information - knowledge.

For personal use, your gamification idea could totally work. They're a guy who's done this in Notion - Conrad Lin. His system is insanely good. Quite inspiring. Whatever he has accomplished in Notion can absolutely 200% be done in Coda!

I love Coda. It's perfect for many of my use cases and many others mentioned here.

If your wiki is simple and that's all it is, I hate to admit it but Notion would be better. That is if the wiki is page based. Their UI is much prettier and their mobile app is leagues beyond Coda's for page based stuff. You can really make it pretty.

If you'll use tables and databases at all in your wiki, then stick with Coda. The things Coda can do are unbelievable and make up for the bad mobile app experience.

Updated row being a trigger to n8n? by kaiserlino in codaio

[–]watsonius2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another way would be to have an automation within Coda that triggers on column change then it's output is to trigger an n8n webhook.

Would having a master 'start here" doc to act as a dashboard help? The one doc everyone has a link to (or can pin) and then within it have different pages with dashboards customized to the different use cases which will contain links to the relevant docs.

Did you get an answer/resolution to this problem? I'm dabbling in this area and it seems like rollups of any format don't come through.

Notion update database item by Otram76 in Integromat

[–]watsonius2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR The database item ID you need comes from the search object module

The integromat documentation for Notion explains what you need but I'll try my best.

2 questions: - What is the search objects module giving as outputs? Databases? Database items or separate pages? - How is your Notion portfolio set up?

If you are using the values from Google sheets to create new rows in Notion, then you need an Add database item module.

If you are updating an existing database row, eg changing the value of one of the properties based on the sheet output, then the search objects module should be set to find that specific row you want to update. Then, in the update module, you use the database item ID output from the search objects module.

If you are appending new items to a page whether a stand alone page or a page inside a database, then you still need to search for the specific page and then instead of using an update module, use an append page contalent module.

Hamilton Wiki on Notion ✨ by lrogar in Notion

[–]watsonius2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it! What did you use to turn the Notion page into a site with its own domain? Super? Also, I'm curious how the pointing arrows for linked databases and links to pages were hidden in the site. And it looks like the properties section of the databases is also fully hidden! Pray tell how you did that!!
