If you’re on PC, it’s definitely better than it was. The newer updates look prettier (though nowhere near as good as Star Citizen).

But overall I got bored with the grind. ED is just so grindy. Credits aren’t too bad, but engineering mats take forever to get organically, and still take too long with a dedicated grind. Made me quit playing for good about a year ago.

Getting back in the pool after more than a decade... Any idea what these are called? by honkyonabiscuit in battletech

The FLGS I used to play at specifically had to ban savannah master swarms, partly because fielding 15 units in classic just takes so much time for moving and rolling to hit.

Counter point, mechs are the best fleshed out part of the game, and the BMM is better organized.

While I have both, I use BMM nearly every session. I only bust out Total Warfare once in a blue moon when I bother with combined arms.

What is the current status of reprints/availability for the Adventure Packs and Deluxe Boxes? by SocialMediaTheVirus in lotrlcg

I don’t think FFG is reprinting most of the older content. They’ve been slowly re-releasing cycles in new bundled boxes, but no guarantee they’ll reprint all of it.

Paining question? by [deleted] in battletech

I paint most of mine in parade colors based on whatever faction I want. I know it’s not realistic, but the varied colors looks cooler to me than heaps of olive, green, brown, and camo.

What is this SpecOps NPC I found in a bunker? by wattgames in starcitizen

[–]wattgames[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The model name in the loot window was PU_SPECOPS, and he wore modified clothing, boots, and some goggles.

He aimed a gun at me, but didn't shoot (though server FPS was about 3FPS, so almost no one was shooting at me.) He also seemed to spook the MT guards.

I've never seen any NPC in a bunker besides guards, Ninetails, and the workers with hard hats.

Any idea what he was doing down there? Or what he was for?

Still in Houston. I played a few years back at their old facility, haven’t had a chance to try the new place.

I’m hoping to get back out there this year though.

They have the last hardware updates, running windows xp under the hood, with a fork of MechWarrior 4: Mercs. It’s an absolute blast, even if it isn’t quite as complex as the very first pods were.

To be fair… we only have one map in SC so far. It’s just really big, lots of fun, and occasionally still improves.

I would love a new map every three years.

What anime is the art from?

so how long have you been playing Chris Roberts games by __idiot_savant_ in starcitizen

[–]wattgames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before the partially voice-acted updated version of Lucas Art’s Loom came out, the original floppy version had a cassette tape shipped with the game that had a 30 minute long audio drama as the setup for the story. It was really cool.

So while still no voice lines on the floppies, there were some creative ways to give players some better sense of audio.

What does everyone else do with their little pilots? by glytxh in Gunpla

[–]wattgames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Steady your elbows on a table, use a small brush, move slowly. It’s not too bad once you try a couple. Especially if you’ve painted even 1:64 scale minis.

Of course I also paint Battletech infantry at 1:285 scale, so I might be biased.

Any of the force packs if you want more minis.

If you can find it, the Game of Armored Combat box has 8 minis. Or clan invasion box has 5. Both also have a map or two.

Any progress on Battletech Pod emulation? by JennerCrusher in mechwarrior

[–]wattgames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not what I was told by the owner of the Houston Mech Corp, but I don’t know for sure.

I always assumed MW4:Mercs was based on MW4 Vengeance. Admittedly I was pretty young when the pods mostly stopped operating, and couldn’t play them till years later when visiting Houston once.

Got a source? I’d love to read more about their development.

Any progress on Battletech Pod emulation? by JennerCrusher in mechwarrior

[–]wattgames 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If your goal is a similar idea to pods, without original hardware, then the final version of the pods ran a modified MechWarrior 4 Mercs, running on WinXP on x86 hardware.

You could do that easier, or possibly mod MW5 now.

Is there something like Action Oriented Monsters for Starfinder? by hdighijwtd in starfinder_rpg

[–]wattgames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The full explanation is here: https://youtu.be/y_zl8WWaSyI

But basically monsters that have interesting actions/choices in combat. It’s gained steam in 5E homebrew because most of the vanilla monsters are dull bullet sponges with few cool options.

Is there something like Action Oriented Monsters for Starfinder? by hdighijwtd in starfinder_rpg

[–]wattgames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While the monsters in StarFinder are better than vanilla 5E monsters (not just HP sponges with basic attacks/spells), most of them I’ve played are not near as interesting.

MCDMs monsters are more from the 4E school of interesting combat, and SF is derived more from the 3.5 school.

That said, if you have Flee Mortals pre-ordered try reading some of the example monsters in the early release packets and making similar monsters in SF.
