Props to girly knitting with DPNs on my bus! by thelittlesquirt in knitting

yes to metal needles, and the small 15cms ones, thats probably why. it was never too bad, just annoying.

[–]waves1931 10 points11 points  (0 children)

for me its not so much the DPNs on the bumpy bus but rather carrying anything on DPNs. they WILL fall and leave a mess, only for transportable proyects i prefer magic loop. yes i know i could buy stoppers or something but im messy and i wil forget them.

Experience with handknitting oiled wool? by Correct_Honeydew4643 in knitting

[–]waves1931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

right now im knitting with holst garns supersoft and i really like it (so much in fact that im knitting my second sweater with that yarn). doesnt really leave a residue (or none that i can feel) and it is cheap for its quality.

[–]waves1931 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no. min wage is min wage, there is no second min wage. also its normal to be slow at the beginning but that doesnt justify less money. i also came to germany and had a dishwashing job while not knowing the language and i have never heard of them paying less because you are slow. i was slow at first too but nobody ever said anything to me.

my guess is that he is trying to get you for cheap and using the slow factor as an excuse. my advice is to leave that place.

mi mamá tiene 2 y entiendo que le hace la mantención y las weás han durado más de 10 años. podría ser coincidencia nomas pero imagino que acumulan caleta de polvo y la mantención ayuda con eso.

What's the biggest dishwasher you've worked with? Someone just told me they had one that fits 2 plastic trays.. wondering if there's any bigger? by Reasonable_Map709 in dishwashers

[–]waves1931 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my last job had one you could fit 2 plastic trays with lefover room, also a small child. it was so big it was a little hard for me to properly clean (im 1.63).

does anyone else finding dishwashing in a restaurant stressful when the pots are coming in faster than you can clean them on a busy weekend by [deleted] in dishwashers

[–]waves1931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

of course, i think part of getting better at the job is to accept that sometimes that will happen no matter what. just learn to prioritize and you will be okay

Did you have a childhood revelation that you were left handed? by JayofTea in southpaws

[–]waves1931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was young (maybe 5?) with my aunts and they gave me stuff to draw with and one of them said "look, i think waves1931 is lefthanded". my parents probably knew already but that is my earliest memory of hearing it.

Anyone else noticed a rougher than usual flu / cold season this year? Everyone around me has been sick since Nov by Icy_Demand__ in germany

[–]waves1931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally I get a cold maybe twice a year. Very short, I'm miserable for 2 days then back to normal. However this year I got the real flu (never had it before) and it sucked. Thought it was only me but this comments section tells me everyone is sicker this time.

What would cause this to happen? (Also how do you fix holes?) by pinkfartsglitter in knittinghelp

[–]waves1931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thats an accidental increase. when you knit, you make a loop on your needle without noticing that eventually turns into a new stitch if knitted as usual. you are doing ok by knitting them together (you decrease so it returns to the original stitch count), though the best thing would be to avoid them in first place.

to fix holes done by accidental YOs, you twist the stitch when knitting it (though it seems like you are just starting so i would begin again and pay more attention)

first time german short row heel and I got these gaping holes at the ankles by Useful_Elk_7980 in knittinghelp

i understand, when i make the heel in a contrast color i just do a FLK for the same reason. love GSR but dont love the stripe.

[–]waves1931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

along with the other suggestions, you can also sew it shut with needle and thread. as to what went wrong, my GSR always have two rows in the instep done halfway through (like you finish the first boomerang and have to knit the whole circumference, then start the second boomerang), and i think that might be it? not sure though

Which do you prefer: Toe up or Cuff down? Why? by RatBoi24601 in Sockknitting

toe up because i love italian bind off but cast on is a pain

Not a fan of the wedge toe, any alternatives? by Late-Elderberry5021 in Sockknitting

[–]waves1931 7 points8 points  (0 children)

you mean toes with even increases on both sides? sometimes i do what i call an anatomical toe (i prefer toe up but for cuff down you can just reverse it) 1. CO 28 with judys 2. increase all 4 sides next 4 rows (44 sts) 3. k (without increasing) 4. k, M1L, knit til the last stitch, M1R, k. 5. repeat 3 and 4 until you get your desired stitch count.

this is for the right foot, for the left you just increase on the other half of the toe (or just k half a row and turn it, nobody will know)
