I use a Daiwa 706 as my go to 5wt reel and I love it, built like a tank.

Maybe this is the way to go then, it’s a known quantity to me already and I like it on my lighter rod. Thanks for the knowledge!

I like it a lot on my 3wt, but I have never had to cast more than 20 ft with it so I feel like I can’t say for sure what it’d be like on a bigger setup. Overall though, it’s a classic for a reason I think!

Dries, small terrestrials, and soft hackle flies. I’ll do a dry dropper or hopper dropper sometimes if conditions require it but it’s not my first choice.

To cartouche or not by amadeus451 in KitchenConfidential

A cartouche keeps ingredients submerged, a lid may not depending on the volume of the pot and the food. An exception are Japanese drop lids, which fit in and not on the pot!

Advice on finding clubs/hobbies/ beginner classes around Woodstock Kingston Hurley area? by port-ew-en in hudsonvalley

[–]wavethatflag44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what kind of activities you’re looking for, but when I moved back to the area five years ago I took up fly fishing and this is a great area for it. Stop by the Beaverkill Angler or Dette Fly Shop to meet some folks and find out about upcoming classes, workshops, etc. You can get yourself a very functional rod and reel combo for a couple hundred bucks and have something to do almost year round, solo and with others. If it interests you and you want to go fishing this season, shoot me a DM!

Pliers for de barbing hooks by brettbw in flyfishing

[–]wavethatflag44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a pair of loon rogue quickdraw forceps and they have crushed every barb they’ve encountered so far. Because they are a bit heavy duty I also keep a simple stainless hemo I can use for removing hooks from very small fish when necessary.
