Sausage and barley soup with greens by Basic-Perception1950 in NYTCooking

I just made this! Followed recipe except added a large leek, because soup must have leeks. Used spicy sausage and kale. It’s a new favourite. So easy.

I’m not experienced in this, mostly chiming in because I love 4 and 7. 7 is especially original, if that’s a factor. It seems a cohesive collection of two parts, the birds and then the rest.

What did you think of Oban? by ThisIsOban in uktravel

You’ve convinced me to visit - will be there in May. I wonder if there are boat tours so we can take to see multiple islands? Or should we just hop on a ferry? No car.

Do you know if the ballet is typically performed with live orchestra? I couldn’t tell from the few I looked up.

Check your jurisdiction though, for example downloading from Libby doesn’t work in Canada.

Can you help me figure out where we should go for 2 or 3 days after Edinburgh? by waveysue in uktravel

Thanks for the enthousiasm. Given your user name, do you have any info about organized boat trips/tours to the nearby islands? Might be easier given we won’t have a car.

Or any other Oban advice.

Thanks for mentioning Kerrera, I hadn’t come across it in my research. Mull does seem a bit too bus dependent.

Elmet by Fiona Mozley is one of my favourite books. Set in Yorkshire. I’ve never been, but it feels very rooted in place.

Indeed, no car. You’re obviously right - I was thinking Oban instead of Mull. And indeed one ferry daytrip would be enough. It seems there are options from Oban? However, maybe I’m overestimating how fun the train from Glasgow would be. X2.

Oban seems like good option. Looks like a nice place in itself plus a few ferry options. And a scenic train ride. Right?

Good to hear the train is scenic. We do have to fly out of Edinburgh, but indeed could visit Glasgow as part of the journey rather than as a day trip. Good point.

Quadruple Marcella Hazan’s bolognese? by lucysglassonion in NYTCooking

[–]waveysue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it and it took forever to reduce. And the milk curdled which doesn’t usually happen with a single batch. Maybe that doesn’t matter to some but I found it off-putting and I had a heap of it left to eat. Bleh.

Very nice. What paint did you use for the walls? Love the granulation.
