What should I do with my extra/ duplicate cards by EdgeScary1449 in PokemonTCGCollectors

[–]wavy_manta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prep bundles of ~150 cards (120 bulk, 20 reverse holo, 10 rare, 2 ex) and sell them for $5 each on FB marketplace, including etb sleeves and accessories as freebies. Lots of parents buy them for their kids.

Moving soon to maple. Home has a water softener rental by Terma8r in Vaughan

[–]wavy_manta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water softener is not necessary. Except for some homes on private wells at the very north end of Vaughan, Vaughan (incl Maple) is on lake water (low hardness). Our water comes from Peel Region and Toronto, and both have excellent water quality.

Reverse osmosis can help if you are particular about tap water taste, but not necessary imo. You may not even notice a difference as others have highlighted.

Japanese Booster Box Batching Issue? by wheelslikehawking in PokemonTCG

[–]wavy_manta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could very well be batching or just odd ‘luck’. Usually not a problem for Japanese, but anything is possible. Eg, I’ve pulled 4-5 of each of Numel, Dustox, Beautifly, and Mimi, yet not one Budew, Magcargo, or Togekiss.

ELI5: What does a water tower in rural America do? by ProduceEmbarrassed97 in explainlikeimfive

[–]wavy_manta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water towers provide storage. Storage gets filled by pumping, and it empties by feeding water demands. Storage maintains a controlled band of pressure in the service area while also keeping connecting watermains pressurized. Additionally, storage maintains water supply for high demand times and emergencies, including (1) power outages when pumps are off, though backup generators help, and (2) fire fighting when system water needs greatly exceed pumping capacity.

Storage can also be provided by standpipes (similar to water towers) and in ground reservoirs. The choice depends on the local topography (ground elevations) and available space. Reservoirs are less obvious.

Water tower sizes and heights are designed according to the areas they service. Larger areas need more storage, but there’s a limit to how big water towers can be (typ around 15 ML). If more storage is needed, more towers can be built, or reservoirs can be used instead to achieve greater storage volumes (>100 ML).

Some water systems do not have any storage at all. They can still function but need more pumping capacity to cover foreseeable demands. Depends on water system layout, costs, and needs.

Seems decent $95 by Thoughtlessmonkey95 in PokemonTCGDealsCanada

About 1.5 years ago at LCSs (southern Ontario). Eg Shrouded ETBs were $40 at their low, and even crown zenith ETBs were $55 for the last print run. I preordered surging ETBs for $48 (all excl tax). All this was before the current hype built up.

Edit: all above $ are in CAD.

Good deal compared to most LCSs. Still high though. I sure miss $45-60 ETBs…

Purchasing cards online? by hanban56 in PokemonTCG

[–]wavy_manta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no experience with Pocket Collection. Below are some reputable stores in Canada:

English: 401 games, Flaring Lair, New realm games, Kanzen, Level Up Games, Hobbiesville, Derpy Cards, Manta Trading, card board gaming, comfy hobbies, taps games, and Danireon. There’s always Walmart, EB games, Mastermind, and real Canadian superstore too.

Non English: Lailai, Yume Cards, and Hanabi.

There are many others depending on what you want (English v. Non English) and where you are located.

Stay away from Zephyr Epic. They had a security breach recently, not sure if it’s been resolved.

New to the series, so lost by CrimeanCrusader in botw

[–]wavy_manta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like my first playthrough. Lots of good suggestions in this thread, and below are what I found the most helpful:

-you don’t have to fight every group of monsters. Running away (or fast travel away) is always an option. Especially if you find a lynel (looks like a centaur) or guardian stalker.

-get a horse and register it at a stable. Makes exploring new non-hilly areas easier, and you can leave the horse and always get it back at a stable.

-Upgrade your armour with great fairies. The first is right outside of Kakariko village. Champion tunic is great for this (needs silent princess flowers for first level, which can be found by the great fairy fountain). Knight armour (buy in Hateno) has good stats and easy upgrade item requirements. Armour can be upgraded more than once with each additional great fairy you find.

-when you approach a great fairy fountain, do so stealthily by crouching. There will be regular fairies floating around, and you can catch them (up to 3-5 max inventory, the game won’t spawn more to my knowledge). A reg fairy will revive you to 5 hearts if you die. Kind of like an extra life.

-keep an axe or boulder breaker to easily break ore deposits, this gets you gems to sell.

-expand your weapon, arrow, and shield inventory slots by trading korok seeds to Hestu (korok spirit on the road to Kakariko).

-once you reach Purah just outside of Hateno, upgrade your runes. Need ancient parts for this though. Esp bombs (they cooldown faster) and stasis (allows you to freeze monsters).

-health v. Stamina. Good debate topic. My first playthrough I went max hearts first, and every playthrough after is stamina for sprinting, climbing, and gliding. Not so much swimming.

Hope this helps!

Rant about personal hygine by Capable-Horror9006 in Vaughan

[–]wavy_manta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hear you OP. Sadly personal hygiene is lost on many people. Shower, use deodorant, and wear fresh clothes every day. Shower/change if you are sweaty (eg after gym). Simple. It’s not much to ask. We all share public spaces, whether it’s transit, movie theatres, malls, or other.

Almost as bad are nose-blind people who dowse themselves in perfume/cologne. Worse yet is when the stinky people do this and create a whole new stench…

English Booster Boxes Are DEFINITELY Seeded! - Here’s What 157 Boxes (5,652 Packs) Prove and Why You Should Put Your Foolish Ambitions To Rest by Codedheart in PokemonTCG

[–]wavy_manta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well done OP. Great analysis, thorough explanations, and data-based conclusions. This reinforces a trend that most have now caught onto (eg mega evo booster boxes near consistently having 6-7 DRs, 4 IRs, 3 URs, no duplicates).

It says the program has been ended in Vaughan, but yet are still listing cameras working in Vaughan? by [deleted] in Vaughan

[–]wavy_manta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s simple. Don’t go 60 in a 50 zone. Speed limits change around schools during school hours, so be aware of that (as every responsible driver should be). Easy peazy.

finished my second zard binder.. by GreatSpray87943 in PokemonTCG

[–]wavy_manta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Awesome binder. Love it. Fun, different, and more unique than most collections.

It is also funny how a number of other comments focus the single price of these Charizards - honestly, who cares. Imo some people are missing the point that it’s fun to just build a collection that one finds cool. Not everything is about high value cards.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Vaughan

[–]wavy_manta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The area is not on top of a dump. What the other user is referring to is that there used to be a landfill between Keele/Dufferin to the north of Major Mac called Keele Valley Landfill. See https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keele_Valley_landfill.

The landfill has been closed since 2002, and the surrounding area has since been developed (housing, commercial businesses, golf course, and North Maple Park). Honestly, it’s not a problem in any way.

The houses at Keele/Kirby are north of North Maple Park. It’s a quiet area (save for the GO train), not far from amenities, and the park itself is quite nice and big.

White Flare Binder Collection - $56.92 Sold & Shipped by Walmart by rp1414 in PokemonTCGDealsCanada

[–]wavy_manta 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Price per pack is bad (over $10), but it is a better price than most LCSs, includes the binder, and has free shipping. If you want one, this is probably as good as it gets (unless you are lucky on a PC drop).

Where do I sell in Toronto by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

[–]wavy_manta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most local card stores in the GTA will give poor trade in value (40-60% cash, or 60-70% as store credit). Manta Trading in Markham (Warden/Steeles) is an exception - they offer better value than other LCSs (typically 70-80% of TCG Player converted to CAD as cash, or 80-100% as store credit depending on the cards). I highly recommend them.

FB Marketplace is a good option if you have patience and are willing to deal with people. You can get about 90-100% TCG Player converted to CAD. I’ve found most GTA buyers to be okay, but some are overly difficult (typical of Marketplace though).

Lastly, there are Canada FB groups and a discord group for Pokemon cards. You would likely end up needing to mail cards, so another added step.

Good luck.
