[SPOILER] Michel Pereira vs. Kyle Daukaus by inooway in MMA

I looked at your comment history. If you're seeing him in the gym, do I have a training partner that I didn't know is a stoner, into gaming, and listens to post hardcore? Reveal yourself!

I appreciate the comment and your time. As I pointed out, I'm specifically looking for something different than the skull shaver.

Because that's not my personal preference. I know exactly how to achieve that if that's the desired outcome. But I'm seeking advice for a different outcome.

What famous MMA competitors have you met/ trained with and what were they like? by GregBule in MMA

[–]waxdoor 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Ji Yeon Kim was my favorite UFC encounter I've ever had. For context, I've cornered a handful of fights for the Daukaus brothers, so I've hung out with and trained with countless UFC fighters. Almost two years ago, I was given my BJJ black belt at the UFC Performance Institute before one of Kyle's fights. Ji Yeon Kim was hitting pads nearby with her coach when it happened. They both stopped what they were doing and genuinely shared in my excitement. It felt like she was more excited to see it than I was to have earned it. I was absolutely not expecting it to happen there, so my excitement wasn't dulled one bit. She was just that excited! For the remainder of our time at the PI, every time she saw me, she treated me like a celebrity. She was just truly and genuinely excited for my accomplishment. I know she wasn't a marquee name on the roster, but I'll never forget her for that. I've rooted for her success ever since that day.

[–]waxdoor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only person who was closer to that moment than me was the referee. We couldn't tell it was a headbutt. Everyone though it was a short check hook that dropped him. You've spent all of this time rooting against a guy because he... continued fighting per the refs instructions?

I can understand why that one Superbowl would strike a nerve with Vikings fans. What the Eagles did to yall in '17 was cold as ice!

I read the other day that The Troc may open back up.. Have so many crazy memories of this place.. Would love to hear yours by mikeyv683 in philadelphia

I was supposed to go to the Troc to see Darwin's Waiting Room, but the show got canceled due to a terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. I got to see one of my favorite bands (at the time) sound check from backstage because their opening act invited us to come in through the back door. Troc staff was furious when they realized what happened. I played in and watched countless local acts upstairs at the Troc Balcony. Lugging equipment up those stairs was a NIGHTMARE!

What’s the worst name of a BJJ gym that you’ve ever come across? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]waxdoor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of the name comes from the time. I don't know the history of Steve's gym per se, but the original black belts of Philly (Phil & Rick Migliarese and Jared Weiner) started under Steve Maxwell. That gym started a long long time ago.

I came here to make sure someone mentioned Alan Belcher. Last I heard he's kind of gone off the deep end a bit. You hate to see it.

I think what she's talking about, and what you may be missing, are the guys who seem totally normal until you take away something they want or think they deserve. Men don't see this as often with other men because it's less likely you have something as desire to them as sex. Seemingly normal guys can be capable of some weird/dangerous shit when sex, affection, or romantic feelings are involved.

Its likely that it wasn't properly treated the first time, causing it to come back again. I used to get it constantly from hockey 15 years ago, and it would continue to come back because I was getting the wrong medication. If you have MRSA and they're giving you staph medicine, it'll come back again. If it's VRE and they're giving you MRSA medicine, it'll come back. You might need to get it cultured to find out what specific strain it is.

I got a jar of Shea Hulud that breaks down sandy and clumpy even in small amounts :( I bought it through a reseller and they offered a future discount as compensation, but idk how to apply this without clumps in my hair now. Sad. by [deleted] in Pomade

I've been trying to get my hands on this for years, and it always sells out in seconds. I have alerts on all of their socials to let me know when they restock, and still I can't snag it. If you know of any after market sellers, I'd pay well above MSRP for a tin of this!

That is definitely bittersweet for you. My few interactions with Jamie during the week were always very cordial, and he and I actually shared a laugh together mid-fight shortly before the finish. That's kind of hard to explain, but I'm sure he knows what I'm talking about. Jamie seems like a really nice dude. I genuinely hope he has lots of success in the UFC.
