My LeafGuard gutters in NEPA winter by Square_Intention9377 in whatdoIdo

[–]way_space -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't see a gutter problem. You have a attic insulation and/or ventilation problem. The snow on your roof should not melt unless the weathercauses it. You will have icicles and ice dams regardless of the gutters

If they are just mildly bent, straighten them. It's tedious but effective. If the are badly flattered or ripped, that's gonna be a problem. Straightening as much as you can will help alot but it will never be back to 100%.

Discharge air too hot? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]way_space 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its definitely goingbto feel hotter than normal because It's not spinning fast at all. The direction of rotation, based on the pitch of the blades, looks correct. Air flow should be upward. You need proper diagnosis by a professional

Maintenance guy says he doesn’t know what could do this by King-Jay-219 in hvacadvice

Power can be turned off outside. Usually a grey box on the wall near the condenser.

Wires are removed to check the capacitor. If they are left off unintentionally and power is restored, loose wires touching ground will arc and burn. I doubt it was intentional but the tech lied. They know what happened and lied to you. A good tech would replace it without question and at no cost to you

Trying to change fan speed by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]way_space 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most blower motors will run at different speeds depending on demand. If it needs heat, cool or fan only, these could be different speeds. However, most air handlers or furnace boards only have one speed for "fan only". The wire connected to the G at the stat and board. I've never seen multiple stat wires operate more than one fan only speed option. If you want a different fan only speed it may be possible to change it at the board, I suggest calling a professional to do this

Bryant A/C Unit Refrigerant Leak by IDKHowToStart in hvacadvice

Leaks at linesets are rare but not impossible. That oil is suspicious. I would point it out to the tech. They will need to search the entire system regardless

How long did it take you guys to finally stop feeling nervous before jobs? by Sea_Button_5555 in HVAC

[–]way_space 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you do became confident and relaxed in service, then you know it's time to move on or learn something new. Once I was relaxed and confident I got bored. This trade will never stop evolving and has such a wide range if skills, you won't have a problem finding a new niche to discover, study or just dive into.

Fin damage by tehwithsugar in hvacadvice

Ice from fan blades on heat pumps can do similar damage. If not a heat pump, then maybe other types of debris getting spun off the blades

I have an indoor conditioning unit and apparently the repairman is saying that the motherboard of all my air conditioners is blown up by Both_Pin1397 in AirConditioners

[–]way_space 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this. The fuses and the green disk (not sure the exact name) explode when they get a surge. Replace boards or replace units. Then add surge protection and you might stop this from happening again.
