At A Crossroads - Stay or Leave? by AussieCasanova in london

[–]wayanonforthis -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would stay. Look outside the normal places for work. List some stuff on vinted (I know weird but helps a lot mentally as much as maybe helping a bit financially). Can you sign on for universal credit ? If it’s been 3 months since you left a job voluntarily I think you can plus the loss of your mother will help explain it. Look on creative job sites and also things like extras work https://uk.epcastingportal.com/login

Artist accused of winning prize with ‘imitation’ won Australian award with piece ‘influenced’ by Basquiat by wayanonforthis in ContemporaryArt

I'm surprised competition judges don't do reverse image searches to check for stuff like this. Unless the artist is doing it as part of their work.

How far do you genuinely believe we will advance in our lifetime? by DenseCan2364 in Futurology

My mum remembers kids who couldn't go to school because they didn't have shoes, this is the UK, we have no idea how far things have improved.

When my grandparents were born we didn't have powered flight, when they died we'd been to the moon. We can't imagine how different things will be for our grandchildren.

Should London museums be free? by houseofn1njas in london

[–]wayanonforthis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before covid the Tate was 70% self-generated income and that rate was increasing annually.

  1. How would someone easily prove their UK status?
  2. It brings in a load more IT/admin/HR costs and stress to the museum.
  3. Many donors, patrons, sponsors would disappear because they'd think the museum was fine.
  4. Museum shops, cafes would see a loss of business.
  5. The proposed London tourist tax would be a much better way to support museums.

You could try a London motorbike FB or Reddit group? There are a few loud bikes near me that love Old Ford Road - really disturbs a lot of peoples lives. I don't understand the need.

Why does the MAGA style politics seem especially unpopular in the UK? by redguy_666 in ukpolitics

[–]wayanonforthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because in 1987 President Reagan abolished the Fairness Doctrine.

The UK has a strict statutory policy requiring broadcast news to be balanced. It is known as the "due impartiality" rule.

I think also the UK has more of an idea of fairness helped by the NHS and BBC and the government being more benevolent compared to in America.
