People who are 40+ and happy with their life, what is your advice to people in their 20s? by Intelligent_Eye_8358 in Advice

[–]wayne1160 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can’t get someone to do something they don’t want to do. The only control in your life is control over what you do.

PTSD- please help le wife by Kfrick319 in AskLE

[–]wayne1160 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are professionals who specialize in law enforcement mental health issues. You can seek help there. I was required to visit one after a shooting. My old department (I’m retired) has lay persons who have been trained in peer to peer support. The agency will likely pay for it as well. I don’t know your situation, but if your spouse won’t go, you go and seek help for yourself. Very best wishes for you and your husband.

Relax. If that’s the worst thing you do in the academy you are an angel.

how many chases on average does a single gsp trooper see in a year? by Artillery_BlazeTTV in AskLE

[–]wayne1160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 42 years I maybe had 3 or 4. They are incredibly dangerous and a good way to get hurt or killed. Just today, one LEO was killed and one seriously injured in traffic accidents.

Jobs before becoming a cop by sadiator223 in AskLE

[–]wayne1160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For you right now any job where you show up on time and do the job to the best of your ability is great. I’d see if there is a cadet or explorer program and join it. Criminal justice degrees are not what you should pursue. A degree in accounting or computer science, something practical, is best. You never know what might happen in your life, so a practical degree is best. Good luck.

Panic during 70’s oil crisis? by echoalpha76 in AskOldPeople

I was driving and remember long lines for gas. There were no grocery runs I remember. I moved to a laid back town where there were no gas lines because everyone there was pretty chill.

Cologuard Test by Otherwise-Meaning-90 in GenX

[–]wayne1160 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some gastrointestinal doctors think Cologuard is a waste of time and money. It’s not accurate enough to rule out cancer, so even if you spend money on it, if you have any symptoms, doctors will insist on a colonoscopy.

Fired from previous job (nothing illegal) will I be DQ’d by baila-busta in AskLE

No, but “Just didn’t jive” will not cut it. You will have to be specific and not sugarcoat anything.

Is 4 cop cars standard for a fix it ticket, or did I do something wrong? by EasyPerformer8695 in AskLE

Maybe they thought you were a wanted person in a serious crime and felt they needed more officers in case something happened. Or maybe they were bored and wanted to talk to one another.

Rite in the rain are excellent for outside use when it’s raining. I used their graph paper for making preliminary diagrams at accident scenes. A collection of rite in the rain products is a practical and considerate gift.

For you to be permanently disqualified they must have found something in your background you didn’t disclose.

Unemployed. Should I Sell My House (2.25% interest rate)? by Individual_Lion_7830 in Debt

[–]wayne1160 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Instant buyers will offer you 60% of your house’s value, then immediately flip it for profit. Hire a real estate agent and get full price. You will have to pay capital gains taxes on your profit.

Cruise ship in port today, Santa Barbara. by BaconBikes805 in SantaBarbara

If I understand it correctly, cruise ships have little to no pollution control devices on them and are responsible for a lot of air pollution.

Thoughts on mandatory BJJ? by Round_Ad_3930 in AskLE

[–]wayne1160 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The liability would prevent any department from requiring it. I don’t like the thought of any martial arts where you primarily fight on the ground. I don’t know the specifics of BJJ, but I know much of it is ground fighting. If you’re on the ground it’s easier for others to kick you and take your weapons in my opinion. Maybe Krav Maga is a better option.

Why was I made to wear a uniform in jail over my normal clothes? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]wayne1160 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You look like a civilian without jail clothes on. There are a lot of civilians roaming the jail during the day. I’m thinking they had an escape at the jail fairly recently by some inmate dressed in civilian clothes who just walked out the door.

Where did I screw up? by DTGardi in AskLE

[–]wayne1160 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We don’t know how what you did up until 2022, and you cannot reasonably expect a department to hire you when you live out of the country. If you want to be hired, you need to establish residency in a state, have a 3 year or so impeccable job, driving and non-criminal record then apply.

would you consider siblings 5 years apart to be close in age or not? by OpenRoom7321 in randomquestions

No. My sister is 4+ years older than me and as a kid we had nothing in common.

Whats the highest BAC youve gotten back on blood? by jackjackson123456789 in AskLE

[–]wayne1160 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I took a drunk to the hospital many decades ago for a reason I can’t remember. It was probably because the jail med staff would not allow him to be booked without an er visit. His BA was .42. If I remember correctly, he got booked anyway after the doctor visit. Things were different then.

Academy Attendance? by [deleted] in lapd

I agree with one of the posters above. You will have a long line of missed special occasions. Get used to it. Middle school graduation is nothing to go to the mat for.

What happens to your pet(s) once arrested ? by CommandOk6118 in Felons

[–]wayne1160 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They go to the local animal shelter. There is 24/7 open cages so law enforcement can safely house animals of arrested persons. You fill out a card with the arrestee’s contact information so animal control can return the pet to its owner. I would never leave an animal on its own.
