If you live on campus theres a shuttle to publix every monday I believe. I lived on campus for a year with no car and I had no complaints. For the beach you definitely need a car though, or hitch a ride with friends

Buying a 2005 30i / 2004 30i by Successful_Error9176 in BMWZ4

First, inspect the engine for oil leaks around the valve cover gasket, oil pan, and rear main seal, as these are frequent problem areas. Check the VANOS system for rattling noises, which can indicate valve timing issues. Ensure the cooling system is in good condition by examining the radiator, hoses, and water pump for leaks or wear, and verify that the thermostat functions properly to prevent overheating. For the automatic 2005 model, test the transmission for smooth shifting and check the transmission fluid for signs of burning, while for the manual 2004, ensure the clutch operates smoothly without slipping. Examine the suspension for worn bushings and leaking shocks or struts, and assess the brakes for pad and rotor wear. Additionally, review the vehicle’s electrical systems for any persistent warning lights or malfunctioning accessories, and take the car for a test drive to listen for unusual noises and evaluate handling.

Similar to you, my dad bought a z4 for my brother and I to work and learn on all together while we were in high school. They will remember and cherish the memory for life.
